The Professional Racers Owners Organization (PRO), in partnership with Drag Illustrated and Florida's Bradenton Motorsports Park, has announced the inaugural PRO Superstar Shootout, a high-stakes, big-money race featuring the stars of Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Stock.

Set for February 8-10, 2024, at Bradenton Motorsports Park, the PRO Superstar Shootout is set to pay out more than $1.3 million in total prize money, with $250,000 going to the Top Fuel and Funny Car winners and $125,000 to the Pro Stock winner. The event will be streamed live via partner FloRacing.

"We believe this is a dramatic new leap for professional drag racing," said Alan Johnson, the president of PRO. "The PRO Superstar Shootout will be unlike anything our teams have been a part of, and the result will be a one-of-a-kind show for our fans. This is an opportunity to try some new formats and to showcase our sport to a broad audience worldwide. It's going to be very exciting to take the expected boost of energy from this action-packed weekend into the start of the 2024 NHRA drag racing season."

PRO partnered with Drag Illustrated to bring the Superstar Shootout to life after seeing the success of the $100,000-to-win Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod at Bradenton in March.

The PRO Superstar Shootout will be the group's first foray into nitro racing. The event will also be the first time Bradenton Motorsports Park has hosted a Top Fuel and Funny Cars event.

The PRO Superstar Shootout will be an invitation-only race. Invitees will be announced at a later date.

Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act to Protect Race Tracks Gains Industry Support

The Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act (S. 2462 and H.R. 2696), introduced into the Senate and House of Representatives, has gained additional support as stakeholders across the industry voice their backing of the bill.

The PRI-supported, bipartisan legislation would accelerate the time it takes for tracks to recover the cost of their long-term investments, such as facility upgrades and improvements. The Act would make permanent a seven-year cost recovery period for investments, an incentive currently set to expire at the end of 2025 (more details here).

Indianapolis Speedrome general manager Jonathan Byrd recently told Wish-TV Indianapolis, Indiana, about its recent upgrades, including new concession stands, lighting, scoreboard, grandstands and a beer garden. Byrd emphasized why the bill is essential, as at least six of his fellow track owners have been unable to reopen their gates this year.

PRI track ambassador Tom Deery echoed Byrd's sentiments to Wish-TV Indianapolis, stating that the tax break helps motorsports and entertainment facilities continually reinvent themselves to ensure the best customer experience.

"When people come, they want to make sure that they've got the best possible experience," Deery said to Wish-TV Indianapolis. "So tracks are now looking at improving things like improving seating and restrooms and walkways. In one way, this is kind of an encouragement for those facilities to make that step."

PRI's dedicated Washington, D.C. office will continue to provide updates on the Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act. For more information, contact Tiffany Cipoletti at tiffanyc@sema.org.

The ceremony, which celebrates ICC's sixth expansion, was joined by Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, City-Council President Vop Osili, Visit Indy and the Capital Improvement Board. Radford Racing School, the Chandler, Arizona-based driving and racing school, has announced a collaboration with the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on the Gila River Indian Reservation in Chandler. With this news, Radford Racing School is now considered one of the world's largest driving and racing schools, spanning more than 447 acres.

The collaboration means Wild Horse's four permanent tracks are open and available to all Radford Racing School students. This includes the 14-turn, 1.6-mile main track road course; the 10-turn, 1.25-mile East track road course; the 12-turn, 1.1-mile West track road course with 3/8-mile straightaway; and the 1/4-mile NHRA-sanctioned drag strip.

The four tracks join Radford Racing School's existing offerings, including the recently upgraded 15-turn, 1.6-mile main track designed by champion racer Bob Bondurant in 1990; the 0.50-mile kart track; and the 10-acre skills pad.

In addition, a newly renovated guest center, trackside student lounge, gift shop and event center complete the Radford Racing School experience.

"We are here to stay in a big way," said Pat Velasco, owner of Radford Racing School. "Since adding new courses, including a drag racing class with a 9-second NHRA license option, we've had tremendous interest from enthusiasts, pro racers, and partners alike."
