PRI News: How did you get into the automotive industry?

Alex Karpowicz: I grew up spending nearly every weekend at dirt tracks across the country watching my dad race. From an early age, the sights, sounds and smell of race fuel became part of who I was and I knew I wanted to be the one behind the wheel. Racing wasn't just a hobby in our family--it was a way of life that taught me the value of hard work, competition and commitment.

I started my career on asphalt ovals, learning the fundamentals of car control and racecraft. When my local track shut down, I transitioned to dirt racing--and that's when everything truly clicked. Starting out in dirt micro sprints, I not only grew as a driver but also became deeply involved in the mechanical side of the sport. I maintained my own cars, made setup changes and learned how much effort goes into every detail both in the shop and on track. It gave me a new perspective and taught me to drive with respect knowing that if something got torn up, I was the one fixing it.

Now racing dirt midgets, I continue to learn and grow with each event. Every race is a new challenge and a chance to improve and my goal is to keep moving forward--ultimately into dirt sprint cars--while chasing the same passion that started years ago watching my dad race.

A;ex Lar[pwocz

PN: What's been your biggest motivator?

AK: My biggest motivator has always been the drive to keep improving and prove to myself that I belong at the highest levels of this sport. Racing is full of ups and downs and what keeps me pushing is knowing how far I've come--from running in the back at local shows to now competing and being competitive on national stages. I'm motivated by the challenge of becoming better every time I strap in, by the people who support me and by the chance to inspire others chasing their own dreams. I also take pride in representing myself well both on and off the track--through social media, interviews and fan interactions--because you never know who you're talking to or who is watching you and how that moment might shape your future.

PN: What's been your favorite part of being a part of the automotive community?

AK: My favorite part of being part of the automotive and racing community is the people. There's a sense of family and passion that's hard to find anywhere else. Everyone--from the fans in the stands to the teams in the pits--shares the same love for the sport and that creates a bond that goes far beyond competition. I've built friendships all across the country through racing and the support within the community is something truly special. Whether it's helping another team get back on track or talking with fans after a race, those moments remind me why I fell in love with this sport in the first place.

PN: As a content creator in the industry, how do you hope to make an impact on your audience?

AK: As both a driver and content creator, my goal is to give people an inside look at what life in racing is really like; the highs, the lows and everything in between. I like showing what most people do not see on TV. I also want to inspire others to chase their goals while showing the amount of work and dedication it takes to make it happen. Whether someone's a lifelong racing fan or just discovering dirt track racing for the first time, I want my content to help them feel connected to it. I also try to highlight the sponsors, teams and people who make it possible because this sport runs on partnerships and community.

Alex karpowicz

PN: Why is advocacy important to you?

AK: Advocacy matters to me because racing has given me so much--and I feel a responsibility to help protect and grow the sport for the next generation. Grassroots racing, especially at the local level, depends on passionate people stepping up to make sure tracks stay open, events get support and young drivers get opportunities.

I also feel that many people outside of motorsports have a negative outlook on the sport, often because they only see the surface--the noise, the speed or misconceptions like "all you do is turn left." Motorsports is often criticized as being too loud or bad for the environment. I believe a lot of that negativity comes simply from a lack of knowledge about what actually goes on and how much work, skill and passion are involved. That's why I try to share the behind-the-scenes side of racing--the preparation, the craftsmanship and the dedication it takes to compete. If more people could see that side, I think they'd understand why this sport means so much to those of us who live it every day.

PN: What's been the biggest moment of your career thus far?

AK: One of the biggest moments of my career was joining Keith Kunz Motorsports and competing on the national stage in dirt midgets. Getting that opportunity with such a respected team--one I grew up watching, was surreal. Competing with some of the best drivers in the sport reminded me of how far I've come: from running near the back at local tracks to now racing at one of the top levels of the sport. The 2025 season and experience I gained gave me a new level of confidence and motivation to keep pushing, learning and earning my place among the best.

Alex Karpowicz

PN: What is on the horizon for you in 2025? Anything you're looking forward to?

AK: I have a few exciting things in the works that I'm not quite ready to announce just yet but I'll be sharing more about them on my social channels when the time is right. What I can say is that I'm always looking for new partners and opportunities to get on track more and continue growing within the sport. One thing that won't change is my commitment to promoting myself, building connections and relationships and promoting dirt track racing as a whole. I have a genuine passion for this sport and being able to share that with fans--and even create new ones--is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

PN: What are you hoping to see from the industry in the next few years?

AK: I'd love to see continued growth and support for grassroots and short-track racing. There's so much raw talent at the local level that deserves more recognition and with the right exposure it can really thrive. I also hope to see more brands recognize how valuable dirt track racing truly is--not only for helping rising stars but for supporting the facilities that the next generation of racers rely on. It's great to sponsor drivers but without race tracks there are no racers. Supporting the sport means supporting the tracks themselves, whether that's through sponsoring a series, backing an event or simply showing up on a Saturday night to buy a ticket and enjoy a delicious dirt track hamburger. As content creation and streaming continue to grow, the sport has a huge opportunity to reach new fans and attract new partners while keeping the heart and authenticity that make dirt racing so special.

Winningest Driver in NHRA History John Force Announces Retirement

Submitted by ajh on Fri, 11/14/2025 - 11:05
John Force PRI GOB 2012

Above: John Force at the 2012 PRI Show Grand Opening Breakfast

Legendary drag racer John Force, a 16-time Funny Car champion and the winningest driver in NHRA history, is officially retiring from competition.

Beginning his career in the '70s, Force accumulated 157 event wins, 269 final-round appearances, 166 No. 1 qualifiers and 1,460 round wins in competition on his way to claiming 16 NHRA Funny Car Championships.

"I really love NHRA, but I am officially done with driving," said Force. "I've said so many times, 'Until this race car kills me, they're gonna have to drag me out of the seat.' But the truth is, I was dragged out of the seat at Richmond and they thought it killed me then. So, I'm lucky that I'm back walking. They always say never say never, but I have grandchildren with Courtney and Graham, with Ashley and Danny, and now Brittany's retired because she wants to have children.

"It's time for me to retire. I had medical stuff that I had to address and 'do I want to get back in the car and get hit in the head,' and I don't. So, I guess it's official, I'm done," Force continued. "I won't say I won't ever get in a car to warm it up or maybe even make a burnout. Don't know. I guess it'll be the response from the fans. If they cheer loud enough, I'll hear ya."

Force will continue to oversee John Force Racing, the 23-time championship winning organization based in Brownsburg, Indiana, and its three champion drivers: Josh Hart, the Top Fuel driver with five NHRA career wins to date; Austin Prock, reigning Funny Car Champion who has a 101-point lead going into the Finals in the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car; and 2012 Funny Car Champion Jack Beckman, who took over the driving duties for Force in the Peak Antifreeze and Coolant Chevrolet SS Funny Car, and is third in the point standings.

Force is announcing his retirement 17 months after suffering injuries in a crash during competition at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia.

Dayco Performance Products: Track Tested and Trusted by Top Teams in Racing

Submitted by ajh on Thu, 11/13/2025 - 15:12
Dayco Belt

Sponsored by Dayco Performance Products

If you want to push your vehicle to the next level, using components built for extreme durability and precision performance is a must. Whether you're upgrading a Mustang GT engine, working on a Camaro rebuild or spending your days at the track, Dayco has engineered products that help your front-end-drive system perform at its peak--from stabilizing engine harmonics and maintaining boost pressure to meeting high engine loads and keeping machines running cooler.

Beyond providing engineering support and application-specific technology to almost 20 drivers and teams across drag, drift, powersports and oval track circuits--including Chris Duncan Racing, Mike Steele Racing and Kalitta Motorsports--Dayco uses racing as a real-world testbed for improving products. This helps drive innovation for both race vehicles and everyday drivers.

Harmonic Balancers Meet SFI Standards

Dayco Harmonic Balancer

Dayco offers a full line of harmonic balancers for everyday driving and street use, but for heavily modified vehicles, Dayco PowerBond Race series balancers are designed to meet or exceed rigorous SFI standards. Each balancer is zero-balanced to accommodate precise engine builds where every component is custom-machined for performance. Tested beyond 21,000 RPM, the Dayco Race series balancer features a precision CNC-machined AISI 1045 forged steel hub bonded to a forged steel inertia ring. Laser-etched timing marks make adjustments fast and accurate, while the all-steel design delivers lightweight strength for rapid acceleration.

  • SFI 18.1 Certified: Meets top safety and performance standards for racing.
  • High-Performance Construction: Forged steel with high-strength rubber bonding for high-rev applications.
  • Advanced Damping: Reduces torsional vibration and prevents slippage to protect critical components.

Supercharger Belts Prevent Slip

When pushing boost through a centrifugal or roots-style supercharger, superior grip means everything. That's why Dayco Supercharger belts are built from high-friction, aramid fiber-reinforced EPDM rubber -- it eliminates belt stretch and reduces slip under high boost conditions. Developed with testing from top Drag Pak racers, this belt line has almost a dozen part numbers that cover 150,000-plus VIO, including the Corvette ZR1, Camaro ZL1 and Dodge Demon/Hellcat/Redeye.

  • Size Options: Six-, eight- and 10-rib widths for superchargers such as ProChargers and Whipples.
  • Durable Construction: Aramid fiber reinforcement and PET cords for long life under high tension.
  • Anti-Slip Design: High-friction belt face ensures consistent grip under high boost levels.

Blower Belts for White Knuckle Racing

Dayco Belt

Engineered to provide maximum performance under the most grueling race conditions, Dayco offers two blower belts for different types of engines and fuels. These belts have helped power some of the fastest drivers in racing--including Doug Kalitta and Matt Hagan.

11mm: Designed to withstand some of the highest engine loads, the 11-mm belt features a hybrid carbon cord wrapped in a proprietary rubber compound with a low-friction PTFE tooth fabric for extreme load durability. Used for Top Fuel, Funny Car and Nitro engines, this standard 11-mm pitch belt has 145 teeth and comes in both 84mm and 97mm widths.

8mm: Engineered for Pro Mod and Top Alcohol drag applications, the 8-mm belt comes in 50-, 75- and 84-mm widths. A Teflon-coated tooth profile and carbon-cord construction deliver exceptional strength and reliability for both street and strip.

Electric Water Pumps Add Cooling Power

Dayco Electric Water Pumps

Compact and self-contained, Dayco offers electric water pumps that can be mounted anywhere in the engine bay, making them the perfect add on for custom builds or situations where there are tight clearances in the engine compartment. Some drivers gut the thermostat so the electric water pump can still run with the engine off. This helps keep the car cool and is beneficial during high-performance driving and between rounds, where a mechanical pump's flow rate is directly tied to engine speed. Dayco's ISO-certified electric water pumps are designed to help maintain systems that improve fuel economy and increase engine response and engine-off cooling.

  • Robust Design: Engineered to handle extremely corrosive, high-temperature environments.
  • High-Quality Components: Stainless steel ensures resistance to corrosion and rust.
  • Superior Durability: Self-lubricating, graphite composite bearings for improved longevity.
