XDi Race EFI Distributor

The new FAST XDi Race EFI Distributors allow the proper triggering of all EFI systems without compromising rotor phasing, for the most stable ignition timing throughout the entire RPM range. The distributor uses an advanced optical trigger to deliver more precise trigger signals (± ½-degree accuracy) than magnetic pickups used by competitors, particularly at high RPM. The FAST XDi Race EFI Distributor is constructed with a CNC-machined billet housing, a precision-ground stainless shaft and premium bearings, all hand-assembled to exacting standards. This maintains a consistent end play that eliminates another common source of timing fluctuation. Available for multiple applications with either a small or large cap, each distributor comes with a high-quality rotor and precision-machined bronze gear.

Race Intake Manifolds

Holley/MSD released its Single Plane Split-Design Race Intake Manifolds, which have been developed specifically for high-performance and race Gen III LS engines with cathedral port heads and 4150-style square-bore flanged carburetors or throttle bodies. Their special two-piece split configuration allows easy disassembly for direct access to internal plenum and port surfaces and makes custom porting and matching a snap. Lighter and less than half the price of other split race manifolds, Holley Single Plane Split-Design Race Intake Manifolds are ideal for 5.3L to 6.2L+ displacement applications and rock-solid up to 7000 rpm. The single-plane design provides extra hood clearance and optimal performance across the entire RPM band, and captured O-ring seals at the split and all eight head ports make reassembly simple and precise.

Former NASCAR driver and 1978 FIA World Karting Champion Lake Speed announced today the formation of SPEEDiagnostix, an expedited oil analysis service catering to racers, engine builders and performance enthusiasts.

“Our family’s experience in the racing industry led to the recognition of the need for fast turnaround used oil analysis,” Speed said. “SPEEDiagnostix provides data and analysis that draws from decades of racing, engine building, oil blending and used oil analysis experience.”

Tailored to meet the unique needs of racers, enthusiasts, engine builders, performance parts manufacturers and classic car owners, SPEEDiagnostix provides expedited, expert used oil analysis services.

“In my role as Head of R&D for Driven Racing Oil, I know the advantages of used oil analysis,” Certified Lubrication Specialist Lake Speed, Jr. said. “However, the traditional labs that service industrial and fleet accounts miss some of the subtleties that are important when analyzing samples from race engines and other high-performance engines. It is not that other labs are bad. It is just a matter of experience.”

The day-to-day operations of SPEEDiagnostix are handled by Caroline Speed, the granddaughter of Lake Speed and daughter of Lake Speed, Jr.

SPEEDiagnostix provides services via pre-paid oil analysis kits, offering single sample, expedited kits to multi-sample, standard turnaround kits.

Best In The Desert Updates UTV Race Classes for 2019

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/13/2018 - 11:25
Best in the Desert (BITD), the largest off-road race series in North America, has announced updates to its UTV segments, including two new classes, for the 2019 season thanks to exponential growth in the category.

Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Magazine’s latest article about the UTV market states: There's a revolution happening right now in dirt competition: side-by-sides. Interest in UTV racing has skyrocketed over the past few years and the motorsport industry has responded in turn, providing unprecedented accessibility for those eyeing the jump from enthusiast to competitor.

"Echoing the thoughts of PRI, these important changes in the Best in the Desert program for 2019 will continue to allow the UTV entry numbers to increase. We are looking forward to an exciting 2019 season of racing,” BITD Operations Manager Donald Jackson said.

Below are the changes to its side-by-side racing lineup in 2019:

BRAND NEW CLASS R900 - PRO RS1 UTV
BITD is offering a brand new class for 2019 – PRO R1S. This class will create a place for the Single Seat UTVs to compete. The RS1 number designation will be R900.

UTV RALLY SPORTSMAN CLASS
BITD is making its UTV Rally Sportsman Class a class of its own. In 2018, they raced against the sportsman class but will be U900 in 2019. The Rally Class will have a three-race series, Parker “250”, UTV World Championships and Laughlin Desert Classic Night Race. There will be a Class Championship awarded for the 2019 season.

SPORTSMAN UTV CLASS
Sportsman UTV Class is moving numbers and will be known as S900. In 2018, they were 2951-2999.

PRO
UNLIMITED UTV
Pro Unlimited UTV is expanding numbers and is now open to all 2900 numbers.

PRO TURBO
PRO TURBO is seeing a change for 2019 as they will now be T800-999. All current Pro Turbo racers will be required to add a “T” to their current numbers for 2019.

PRO PRODUCTION
Pro Production will stay with the 1800-1999, no changes for this class.

Next up for BITD is the Pahrump Nugget “250” presented by Polaris, a car-truck-UTV event in Pahrump, Nevada, with races occurring on December 1. Visit bitd.com for more information.

IHRA Adds Sportsman Class To Summit SuperSeries

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/13/2018 - 11:24
Officials from the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) announced the addition of a Sportsman class to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries program beginning in 2019.

The Sportsman class is open to door cars only (12.00 & slower in the ¼-mile and 7.50 & slower in the 1/8-mile). The use of trans brakes, two steps, and delay boxes are prohibited in this class.

Sportsman racers who win Summit SuperSeries track championships or Summit Team Finals events will be invited to compete at the Summit SuperSeries World Finals October 17-19, at Memphis International Raceway for their chance to win the first-ever Sportsman National Champions and a $5,000 payout.

“The Sportsman class was added after receiving a lot of feedback from our dedicated members about forming no electronics class,” IHRA Vice President Skooter Peaco said. “We are excited to have these competitors running for a spot in the Summit SuperSeries World Finals in 2019 and making the 18th season of the Summit SuperSeries one for the record books by crowning our first Sportsman World Champion in October.”

Stiltner Family To Acquire Kingsport Speedway

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 11/12/2018 - 10:49
Kingsport Speedway officials announced this weekend at their season-ending awards banquet that Ervin and Keith Stiltner plan to purchase the .375-mile concrete oval in Kingsport, Tennessee, from current owner Joe Loven.

The father-son businessmen have a deep connection to short track racing and have leased Kingsport Speedway since 2014. The two also leased Lonesome Pine Raceway from 2007 through 2017 and Ervin Stiltner was part owner in the United Auto Racing Ass’n (USAC).

Kingsport Speedway opened in 1965 as a high-banked dirt track. The track was converted to asphalt in 1969, and then in 1984 converted back to asphalt.

Joe Loven purchased Kingsport Speedway in the early 1990s. Loven, who owns Loven Ready Mix Concrete, had a part in putting down the first concrete surface at Bristol Motor Speedway. He also transformed Kingsport to its current concrete surface.

Kingsport’s resurgence came in 2009, when the track hosted a Late Model stock car touring series event that was sanctioned by the USAC. The track had been dormant since 2002 up to that point.

In 2011, former NASCAR driver Robert Pressley reopened the track and brought the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner to the track. After Pressley went on to pursue other business ventures at the end of 2013, Ervin Stiltner stepped in.

Karen Tunnell, the track’s current general manager and promoter, has been at Kingsport since it reopened in 2011. Tunnell will continue to lead the track.

“We couldn’t be happier to take the reins at Kingsport,” Ervin Stiltner said. “We’ve seen great support from the competitors, fans, sponsors and local community since we started leasing the track in 2014. We appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to waving the green flag on 2019 and beyond.”
