Best in the Desert (BITD), the largest off-road race series in North America, has announced updates to its UTV segments, including two new classes, for the 2019 season thanks to exponential growth in the category.
Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Magazine’s latest article about the UTV market states: There's a revolution happening right now in dirt competition: side-by-sides. Interest in UTV racing has skyrocketed over the past few years and the motorsport industry has responded in turn, providing unprecedented accessibility for those eyeing the jump from enthusiast to competitor.
"Echoing the thoughts of PRI, these important changes in the Best in the Desert program for 2019 will continue to allow the UTV entry numbers to increase. We are looking forward to an exciting 2019 season of racing,” BITD Operations Manager Donald Jackson said.
Below are the changes to its side-by-side racing lineup in 2019:
BRAND NEW CLASS R900 - PRO RS1 UTV
BITD is offering a brand new class for 2019 – PRO R1S. This class will create a place for the Single Seat UTVs to compete. The RS1 number designation will be R900.
UTV RALLY SPORTSMAN CLASS
BITD is making its UTV Rally Sportsman Class a class of its own. In 2018, they raced against the sportsman class but will be U900 in 2019. The Rally Class will have a three-race series, Parker “250”, UTV World Championships and Laughlin Desert Classic Night Race. There will be a Class Championship awarded for the 2019 season.
SPORTSMAN UTV CLASS
Sportsman UTV Class is moving numbers and will be known as S900. In 2018, they were 2951-2999.
PROUNLIMITED UTV
Pro Unlimited UTV is expanding numbers and is now open to all 2900 numbers.
PRO TURBO
PRO TURBO is seeing a change for 2019 as they will now be T800-999. All current Pro Turbo racers will be required to add a “T” to their current numbers for 2019.
PRO PRODUCTION
Pro Production will stay with the 1800-1999, no changes for this class.
Next up for BITD is the Pahrump Nugget “250” presented by Polaris, a car-truck-UTV event in Pahrump, Nevada, with races occurring on December 1. Visit bitd.com for more information.
