Formula DRIFT Adjusts 2020 Schedule

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 04/16/2020 - 09:29
Formula DRIFT (FD) has announced its revised 2020 competition schedule, which kicks off July 3-4, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, which hosted the first official FD event in 2004.

“With the cancellation of the opening round and the uncertainty regarding the ability to organize live events in the first few months following the national directives regarding COVID-19, we have worked closely with all our venue partners to create a new 2020 schedule,” Formula DRIFT President Jim Liaw said. “We’ve taken these steps, in consultation with the teams and sponsors, in order to give us the highest probability of achieving our goal to run an eight-round Championship. Obviously, this may still be subject to national directives since the safety of our fans, teams, vendors, sponsors, and staff remains our number one priority.”

The new schedule, which was made in consideration for the American, European and Asian teams who wish to compete this year, features a majority of the expected tracks, although several dates have been changed. Long Beach, California, and Orlando, Florida, have both been canceled, but new events have been created at Irwindale Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

“As we mentioned in our previous statement, everybody at Formula DRIFT is incredibly appreciative of the tremendous support shown by our fans, as well as the commitment of the teams, vendors, sponsors, and track management teams around the country. We’re all looking forward to seeing the 2020 FD season kick-off with what will surely be a very special Independence Day celebration at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta," Liaw said.

Throughout the 2020 schedule, Formula DRIFT will adhere to local and national government guidance on health and safety.

Fans who purchased tickets to events on the previous schedule will be contacted with a number of options to obtain tickets to the new events or to obtain refunds. For the revised competition schedule and ticket information, visit formulad.com.

Historic Racing Groups In Europe Collaborate To Reschedule 2020 Seasons

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 04/15/2020 - 09:57
Three leading organizers of historic racing in Europe have pledged to work together in rescheduling events once the 2020 season resumes.

The Historic Sports Car Club (UK), Masters Historic Racing (UK), and HVM Racing (France) will collaborate to help ensure the best deal for historic racers.

Cooperation on rescheduled dates, shared race meetings, and guest races at each other’s events are all options that are currently being discussed. The aim will be to create viable race meetings that offer as many racers as possible the chance to race at leading venues this year.

“This is good for the sport and makes good business sense and I’d like to thank Ron Maydon at Masters and Laurent Vallery-Masson at HVM for joining us in this process," HSCC's Andy Dee-Crowne said.

"No one can yet be sure when racing will be allowed to restart and we can’t yet predict what grid sizes will be like. While there will clearly be pent-up demand to go racing, we also recognize that some competitors will be focussed on business recovery after the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic. We want to make sure that we can all accommodate those who want to go racing again.”
