Extreme H Pioneer 25

Extreme E, the all-electric off-road racing series, has introduced the new "Pioneer 25" race car for its planned transition to hydrogen power in 2025.

The car is designed and manufactured by Spark Racing Technology and equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell from Symbio, Extreme H’s official fuel cell provider, and has undergone a testing program to prepare for its debut campaign, according to the series.

Symbio will provide a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell, replacing the battery as the principal energy source. The hydrogen fuel cell powers the battery pack that is produced and supported trackside by Fortescue ZERO.

The Pioneer 25’s peak 550-hp output is capable of firing the 4,850-lb. car from 0-60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds and scale grades of up to 130%.

Each Pioneer 25 raced in Extreme H uses a common package of standardized parts from Spark Racing Technology. One open area for teams is the ability to redesign front and rear bodywork and lights in order to replicate the look of everyday car models.

The Pioneer 25 will undergo its first public test at Extreme E’s Hydro X Prix in Scotland, July 13-14.

U.S. Supreme Court Delivers Win for Auto Aftermarket, Motorsports Industry Against Federal Agency Overreach

Submitted by laurap on Mon, 07/01/2024 - 15:50
US Supreme Court SCOTUS

The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a huge win for industries impacted by federal overreach. In its decisions in Loper Bright v. Raimondo and Relentless v. Commerce, the high Court has provided increased regulatory certainty to small businesses around the country, including specialty automotive aftermarket and motorsports companies, that have been adversely impacted by federal regulatory overreach. The Court's decisions overturned what is known as the Chevron Doctrine, which adopted the principle that judges should defer to federal executive branch agencies' interpretations of their powers when the laws that Congress has written are ambiguous or have gaps so long as those interpretations are reasonable. The Court's decision affirms that agencies cannot take actions that are inconsistent with, or not supported by, the language of the laws passed by Congress.

These precedent-setting decisions will provide opportunities to revisit a wide array of regulations that affect so much of everyday life--including issues that directly impact the specialty automotive aftermarket and motorsports industry. For the last four decades, many energy, climate, health, and safety regulations have been given deferential treatment in federal courts because of the Chevron Doctrine. During this time, federal agencies expanded the scope of regulations beyond congressional intent, which has adversely impacted small businesses that drive the U.S. economy.

This decision restores the checks and balances of our system of governance and rightly places authority back where it belongs: with the elected officials in Congress who are charged with drafting federal laws. The Supreme Court's decisions on these pivotal cases will help to reign in federal regulations where the executive branch has exceeded its statutory authority.

Industry Mourns Passing of Lizzy Musi, 33

Industry Mourns Passing of Lizzy Musi, 33

Lizzy Musi, the renowned drag racer and daughter of drag racer and engine builder Pat Musi, has passed away from breast cancer. She was 33.

Musi's 3.802-second run at 200.02 mph made her the first woman to break the 200-mph barrier in eighth-mile door slammer racing. That same year in 2014, Musi became the first woman to win a Pro Nitrous national event at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) US Drags at Virginia Motorsports Park, a racing season where Musi took a third-place finish in the championship points standings and PDRA Rookie of the Year honors.

In 2019, Musi joined the "Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings" TV program and scored three consecutive victories in her "Aftershock" Camaro powered by a Musi 959. She became not only the first female driver to win a No Prep Kings event, but also the first driver to achieve three consecutive wins.

PRI extends its condolences to the Musi family.

A memorial page has been set up by the Musi family here. Read more about Musi's career at lizzymusi.com/about-lizzy.
