Dennis Reinbold, Indianapolis 500, INDYCAR SERIES Team Owner, 65

Dennis Reinbold

NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Team owner Dennis Reinbold, whose Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has fielded cars in the INDYCAR SERIES and Indianapolis 500 for more than 25 years, died June 13 while surrounded by family. He was 65.

Reinbold, a longtime, successful Indianapolis automobile dealer, formed Dreyer & Reinbold Racing in 1999. The name paid tribute to his family's legacy in racing, as Reinbold's grandfather Floyd "Pop" Dreyer moved from being a factory motorcycle racer to serving as a crew member and chief mechanic on the famed Duesenberg driven by Benny Shoaff and Babe Stapp in the 1927 Indianapolis 500. Dreyer went on to build many Indy 500 cars in the 1930s and built championship-winning sprint cars, midgets and quarter-midgets.

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing started competing in the INDYCAR SERIES full time in 2000 and achieved instant success, winning the season opener at Walt Disney World Speedway with Robbie Buhl behind the wheel. That remains the team's only victory, but DRR earned two second-place finishes with driver Justin Wilson in 2010 and four third-place finishes between 2001 and 2012, its last full INDYCAR SERIES season.

The Indianapolis-based team then ran a limited schedule of five races in 2013 before focusing solely on the Indianapolis 500 from 2014 through this year, except for a four-race effort for driver Sage Karam in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Indianapolis native Reinbold was very proud he employed a year-round, tight-knit crew to prepare his cars for the Month of May, which attracted such "500" standouts as 2012 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, JR Hildebrand, Townsend Bell and Conor Daly to multiple May starts with the team.

DRR's best Indy 500 finish is fourth by Oriol Servia in 2012. But the team was in excellent position to contend for victory in 2025 when Hunter-Reay ran out of fuel while leading with just 31 laps remaining. DRR drivers also led the "500" in four of the last six years.

Another source of pride for Reinbold was that all 53 cars his team entered in the Indianapolis 500 qualified for the starting field.

That success rate, meticulous preparation and Reinbold's passion for the sport and "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" led a veritable who's who of the sport to race for the small team. Besides Buhl, Hunter-Reay, Hildebrand, Daly and Wilson, drivers such as two-time Indy winner Al Unser Jr., 1996 "500" winner Buddy Lazier, 2004 "500" winner Buddy Rice, 2019 "500" winner Simon Pagenaud, INDYCAR SERIES champion Paul Tracy and Sarah Fisher drove for DRR.

NHRA Announces Promotions in Tech, Racing Administration Departments

Submitted by ajh on Fri, 06/12/2026 - 12:53
The headshots of three NHRA officials.

NHRA officials have announced a series of strategic leadership promotions and changes within its technical and racing administration departments.

As part of the changes, Ned Walliser will transition from his role as vice president of competition to serve as an NHRA consultant and key advisor for NHRA's racing-related programs. Josh Peterson has been promoted to senior vice president of competition and tech and Rob Park has been elevated to vice president of national and field operations.

In his new consulting role, Walliser will continue to provide guidance and support on key technical and competition-related matters. Walliser was named NHRA vice president of competition in 2018, overseeing competition and operations for all NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series events. He also led the NHRA Technical Department.

"Ned's knowledge, passion and dedication to NHRA Drag Racing have been invaluable, and he's played a vital role in our competition leadership," NHRA President Glen Cromwell said. "We're grateful for his years of leadership and guiding our organization's racing operations and technical programs. His commitment has made a lasting impact in the NHRA community, and we're thrilled to have him continue to support NHRA."

"I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish as a team and the relationships I've been fortunate enough to build throughout my career," Walliser said. "I look forward to being able to continue to assist NHRA in this new role."

Peterson, a veteran of more than 20 years with NHRA, will oversee the vast responsibilities of maintaining the fair and safe competition that has helped build NHRA over the past 75 years in his new role of Senior Vice President of Competition and Tech, leading both departments.

Peterson joined NHRA's Competition Department in 2007 as Director of Racing Administration before being named Vice President of Racing Administration in 2011. In this new role, Peterson will be positioned to strategically align the interjoined responsibilities and goals of NHRA's Competition and Technical Departments.

"By bringing racing administration, competition, tech and national and field operations under one centralized group, it will not only help communications and efficiency, but allow us to guide the sport and create universal policies that cover rules, safety and parity," Peterson said. "I have a great team working with me to ensure the high standards of NHRA drag racing will continue to be upheld well into the future, while still being able to lean on Ned's expertise as well."

Park will move into the role of NHRA vice president of national and field operations, reporting to Peterson. He will oversee event scheduling, the Simpson NHRA Safety Safari and also head up NHRA's field operations, managing NHRA's seven division directors.

Park, who joined NHRA in 1996, was recently named senior director of field operations in 2025 and was previously NHRA Division 5 director for 25 years.

"Rob has a wealth of experience and has played an important role in the growth of NHRA on many levels for more than 25 years," Peterson said. "He has an incredible knowledge of our tracks, teams and partners, which will be pivotal in this role, and he will also continue to be a great resource for our terrific team of NHRA Division Directors."

IMSA, ACO, FIA Outline 2030 Prototype Regulations

Submitted by ajh on Fri, 06/12/2026 - 11:03

Ahead of the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, IMSA, ACO and FIA officials outlined the framework for new regulations that will govern the top class of prototype racing beginning in 2030.

The technical regulations––which will be used in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar class––will shift toward a single, two-wheel drive platform for all cars in the class. This marks a shift from current regulations that enable both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive prototypes to compete in the same class.

All prototypes will continue to use internal combustion engines together with hybrid powertrain systems. Manufacturers will have the option to use a single-source hybrid powertrain, as is the case for prototypes built to the current Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) platform, or their own bespoke systems developed in-house, providing they adhere to the same specifications.

Manufacturers also will have the option of using a selected constructor to build its chassis––again following the LMDh model with Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and ORECA––or develop their own chassis in-house. Homologation of each prototype will be based on tight technical regulations and will be valid for at least five years with no performance evolutions.

Technical working group meetings between IMSA, ACO, FIA and the manufacturers and constructors will further define and finalize the regulations that will go into effect at the start of the 2030 season.

"The current era of prototype racing has demonstrated what's possible when stakeholders come together with a shared vision. Our responsibility now is to carry that momentum forward and create the conditions for long-term success. Today's announcement is an important milestone," said IMSA President John Doonan.

"Having a single, global technical regulation for top-class prototype racing is a win for everyone involved––the sanctioning bodies, manufacturers, teams, drivers, corporate partners, suppliers and, most importantly, the fans. For manufacturers, it creates a clear pathway to compete at the highest level of endurance racing around the world under a common set of regulations. For teams, it brings stability and confidence as they plan and invest for the years ahead. And for the fans, it helps ensure that the world's leading automotive brands continue to compete head-to-head on some of the biggest stages in motorsport."

Genesis Unveils Magma GT3 Concept

Automaker Genesis has unveiled its new Magma GT3 Concept, signaling a vision for the brand's future across motorsports.

Making its global debut at Le Mans, the Genesis Magma GT3 Concept outlines a potential future direction for Genesis Magma Racing as it expands beyond its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar program.

The concept reflects the growing relevance of GT3 competition and its potential to strengthen the connection between automakers' road-going and racing portfolios.

The GT3 Concept follows the debut of the Magma GT Concept, a performance-focused model revealed in 2025.

Optimized for performance, the GT3 Concept features widened tracks, a prominent front splitter, enlarged ducts and a door-mounted fin designed to enhance aerodynamic efficiency and cooling. Advanced thermal management strategies, along with a race-focused rear structure incorporating a fixed wing and diffuser, are also designed to support durability under endurance racing conditions.

Developed in collaboration with Hyundai Motorsport, the GT3 Concept remains under exploration, with architecture, components and potential development pathways yet to be defined. As one of several possible scenarios, it demonstrates how Genesis is exploring opportunities beyond LMDh.

Together, the Magma GT and GT3 Concepts illustrate a cohesive approach, where motorsports serves as both inspiration and testing ground for future Genesis performance and design.

"The Magma GT Concept and Magma GT3 Concept represent two distinct yet connected expressions of Genesis performance," said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke. "The Magma GT Concept embodies our vision of luxury and athleticism on the road, while the Magma GT3 Concept translates that philosophy into the race environment, where every element is driven by performance, efficiency, and purpose. Together, they demonstrate how Genesis is exploring the full spectrum of high performance—from refined grand touring to uncompromising motorsport[s]."

FIA Extends Formula 1 Tire Supplier Agreement With Pirelli

Submitted by ajh on Thu, 06/11/2026 - 15:47

The FIA has extended its tire supplier agreement with Pirelli for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The agreement continues Pirelli's role as the sole tire supplier for the series until 2028.

The activated clause was included in the contract signed between Pirelli, the FIA and Formula 1 in 2023, when the Italian company extended its presence in the series for 2025–2027, and it provided for the possibility of prolonging the collaboration for an additional season.

Additionally, Pirelli will therefore remain the exclusive tire supplier for the FIA Formula 2 Championship and the FIA Formula 3 Championship until the end of the 2028 season.

"Pirelli has been an important partner to the FIA Formula One World Championship for many years, providing a consistently high standard of performance, innovation and safety at the highest level of our sport," said FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. "This extension through to the end of 2028 provides stability for the championship and reflects the strong collaboration between the FIA, Formula One Group and Pirelli. Together, we continue to drive innovation and support the delivery of exciting racing for competitors, teams and fans around the world."

"We are pleased to extend our presence in Formula 1 by a further year, until 2028, thanks to the agreement reached with the FIA––under the leadership of its President Mohammed Ben Sulayem––and with Formula 1. Last year, we surpassed the milestone of 500 Grands Prix, taking on and winning significant technological and innovation challenges throughout our long involvement," Executive Vice Chairman of Pirelli Marco Tronchetti Provera. "Pirelli is not just a supplier but instead a strategic partner that has been able to support the constant growth of the championship, driven by the joint work of the Federation and the promoter. Formula 1 represents the best laboratory for us to innovate, test cutting-edge technical solutions and continually improve research and development processes, for the benefit of tomorrow's road tires."

Following priority booth selection, more than 920 exhibitors have committed over 360,000 net square feet of exhibit space across every major segment of the racing industry.
