Industry Coalition Formed To Assist Career, Technical Education Students

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 03/23/2020 - 10:14
Lincoln Electric, Tooling U-SME, NC3, camInstructor, Haas Automation and SkillsUSA have formed an industry coalition to help Career and Technical Education (CTE) students continue to learn during the COVID-19 situation.

The manufacturing industry is already facing a skilled labor shortage, and the onset of the COVID-19 crisis has presented an additional challenge for educational institutions, temporarily closing schools across the nation and interrupting face-to-face learning.

To help meet the challenge, the newly formed CTE Coalition, led by Lincoln Electric, Tooling U-SME, NC3, camInstructor, Haas Automation and SkillsUSA, have created the website Keep CTE Moving, a central portal where instructors and students can access educational resources.

Keep CTE Moving features hundreds of online classes, videos, and instructional materials with topics covering machining, welding, mechatronics, industry 4.0, and programming.

“A lot of CTE courses are in areas like welding, CNC, automotive, manufacturing, and construction, and are very hands-on,” Lincoln Electric Business Manager of Education Jason Scales said. “Many instructors simply don’t have online training content. This non-competitive group of industry-leading companies [maintains] a robust set of e-learning modules and other resources. Together, we agreed to share our resources in an unprecedented manner. With this opportunity, tens of thousands of CTE students can keep learning, even while they may not be allowed to gather in a physical classroom or lab."

All online materials are produced and supplied by the coalition partners with the majority being available at no charge for the next 30 days.

PRI Update On COVID-19

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 03/20/2020 - 08:37

As the situation surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic continues to evolve, we remain committed to hosting a successful PRI Trade Show, scheduled for December 10-12, 2020. As our planning continues, we are putting in place changes to help lower the level of uncertainty for our exhibitors and attendees.

While the priority exhibitor application deadline of May 8, 2020, remains in effect for the initial floor plotting, we have extended the deadline to receive a full refund to September 1, 2020. Exhibitors can reserve space with confidence, knowing that we will continue to monitor developments and make updates as necessary.

The health and welfare of PRI exhibitors, attendees, employees, and the racing community is our top priority. As such, PRI has instituted a companywide work-from-home policy into April, and has cancelled or postponed any face-to-face meetings or events through May 31, 2020.

While our work arrangements have changed for the time being, we are 100% committed to helping the industry minimize business disruptions and succeed during this challenging time. All PRI staff and account representatives are working full-time, and are here to answer questions and provide information as it becomes available.

PRI is monitoring the situation very closely, and we will continue to update the industry on any new developments. Those with questions should reach out to their account reps, or contact 949-499-5413 or mail@performanceracing.com.

US 13 Dragway in Delmar, Delaware, has renewed a sanctioning agreement with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA).

The facility features a 1/4-mile drag strip and was first opened in 1963. Longtime track owner Charlie Cathell was an early proponent of bracket racing and his track boasts a strong IHRA Summit SuperSeries program.

New for 2020 is the IHRA and SBRA Ultimate Points Series, which allows racers to compete for bigger purses during a two-day event hosted once a month. In addition, there are multiple events for Grudge and N/T Shootout racers.

“It’s fitting that one of the people involved in the beginning of bracket racing and the team finals format feels at home in the IHRA, where sportsman racing is at the forefront,” IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal said. “We’re proud to have the Cathell and US 13 family as part of our own.”

For 2019, IHRA Summit SuperSeries champions included Alex Bradford (Top), Keven Yates (Mod) and Nicholas Bowie (Junior).

The multi-purpose racing facility also features a 1/2-mile dirt clay oval where Super Late Models, big block modifieds and more compete.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 03/19/2020 - 10:40
F1, the FIA, and all 10 teams have unanimously agreed to delay the introduction of the 2021 technical regulations by a year.

The stakeholders held a conference call on Thursday to discuss the coronavirus pandemic and its impacts on the sport.

According to F1.com, it was decided that the best course of action was to delay the introduction of the technical rules until 2022, with the 2020 rules applying in 2021.

F1 officials hope that the move will ease the financial burden on the teams, particularly at a time when their income may be reduced because of fewer races this year.
