Richard Childress Racing (RCR), the Welcome, North Carolina-based NASCAR team, recently announced two leadership appointments for its competition and technical departments, naming Richard Boswell as vice president of competition and Art Trejo as the director of development and innovation.

Boswell, who has led Austin Dillon over the past two seasons as crew chief of the No. 3 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series, will take on a larger role with the race team as Vice President of Competition. Boswell will provide direction across RCR's competition efforts, with a focus on performance, collaboration with key partner Chevrolet and building a stronger foundation for sustained success on the racetrack.

Boswell brings more than 15 years of professional motorsports experience to his new role. His career includes time at Hendrick Motorsports, JR Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), where he helped launch the team's O'Reilly Auto Parts Series program and oversaw its competition operations. He made his Cup Series crew chief debut at SHR, earning a victory with Chase Briscoe in 2024. Boswell joined RCR in 2025 and led Austin Dillon to a Cup Series win that same year.

Trejo has been appointed to the newly created director of development and innovation role, where he will lead the company's efforts to identify, develop and implement emerging technologies. Trejo's background in military leadership, advanced technology and engineering will strengthen the organization. A 27-year officer in the United States Navy with degrees from both Princeton University and UCLA, Trejo joins RCR from SpaceX and has extensive experience working in complex, technology-driven environments.

"Everyone at Richard Childress Racing remains relentless in our desire to win and compete at the highest levels of our sport but we know we're not quite where we need to be," said Richard Childress, chairman and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. "We're announcing these changes now because we want to make sure we have the right people, the right leadership and the right technology in place to compete at the level RCR expects to compete at. Richard Boswell is a talented leader who knows racing, knows how to lead people, and knows what it takes to win. I know he will do a great job taking on a larger role in leading our competition team. Art Trejo brings a completely different set of experiences and a new way of thinking that I believe can help take our racing operations forward. We're going to keep pushing, keep investing and keep looking for ways to get better."

New HRC Docuseries Celebrates Gil de Ferran Closed-Course Speed Record

Submitted by ajh on Thu, 09/24/2026 - 09:56
Gil de Ferran docuseries

A new documentary series by Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) celebrates the life and achievement of the late INDYCAR champion driver Gil de Ferran, who set the all-time closed-course lap record at 241.428 mph.

Launching on the HRC US YouTube channel, the new four-episode docuseries presented by the HRC Heritage Racing Program, "241.428," takes viewers inside the record run with motorsports legends including Roger Penske, Zak Brown, Rick Mears, Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti and Tony Kannan sharing personal memories and honoring the life of their friend, teammate and fellow champion.

Driving Team Penske's Reynard 2KI powered by a 2.65-L Honda HR-0 turbocharged V8, de Ferran recorded an astonishing average speed of 241.428 mph during qualifying for the 2000 CART IndyCar Series race at California Speedway in Fontana. More than a quarter-century later, de Ferran's closed-course lap record still stands across all forms of circuit racing, including Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR––a remarkable testament to the driver, machine and engine that achieved it.

"Gil de Ferran was a big part of the Honda racing family, and he holds a special place in our hearts beyond his major championships and race victories, but 241.428 was an extraordinary achievement," said Kelvin Fu, president of HRC US. "Hearing Gil recount his record-setting run raises the hair on the back of my neck, a powerful reminder of who Gil was and what makes '241.428' such a special documentary."

Developed and directed by noted motorsports journalist Marshall Pruett, with creative direction by motorsports agency, CoForce, "241.428" celebrates de Ferran's remarkable legacy, the monumental Honda engine that powered his record-setting run, and the Penske-modified Reynard chassis that carried him into the history books.

The series also follows the recent restoration and return to the track of de Ferran's 2001 Reynard 01I-Honda, now owned by Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, and restored with the help of the HRC Heritage Racing Program. The championship-winning race car was driven by Brown at the 2026 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca in an emotional tribute to de Ferran chronicled in episode four of "241.428".

PRI Building Support for Industry, Right to Race Through Lawmaker Engagement

Submitted by laurap on Mon, 09/21/2026 - 16:30
Indiana lawmakers at U.S. Nationals.

As PRI and SEMA prepare for the 2027 legislative session, lawmakers nationwide are getting a firsthand look at the racetracks, manufacturers and businesses that power the motorsports industry. Through facility tours, race-day experiences, and direct conversations with industry leaders, policymakers are learning about motorsports' impact on local economies, tourism, workforce development, innovation, and community engagement—and why protecting longstanding racing facilities matters.

These educational experiences are a key component of PRI's and SEMA's Right to Race initiative, which seeks to protect motorsports facilities from nuisance lawsuits brought by new neighbors and developers who move near existing racetracks. By connecting lawmakers directly with the people and businesses that make motorsports possible, PRI and SEMA are building support for policies that promote and protect racing's future.

PRI recently hosted Indiana State Senator Brett Clark and Representatives Chris May and Beau Baird at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park during the NHRA U.S. Nationals, providing a firsthand look at the motorsports industry's impact on the state's economy, tourism, workforce development and local communities.

The event brought together legislators, industry leaders, racers, race teams and facility operators to showcase the important role motorsports play across Indiana, generating $2.75 billion in economic output annually and supporting more than 11,300 full-time jobs.

Throughout the day, lawmakers learned how motorsports supports jobs, drives innovation and manufacturing, generates significant tourism spending, and serves as an important community asset statewide. Discussions also highlighted the challenges facing racetracks nationwide, including increasing development pressures and the importance of protecting longstanding facilities that contribute to local economies.

During the 2027 legislative session, PRI and SEMA will pursue Right to Race legislation in Indiana to protect longstanding racetracks from nuisance lawsuits brought by new neighbors and developers who move near existing facilities.

The visit is part of PRI's ongoing effort to educate policymakers about the value of motorsports and build relationships with lawmakers nationwide. PRI and SEMA have hosted similar events in multiple states as they continue working to advance policies that support and protect the motorsports industry.

Manufacturers: Participate in 30th Anniversary Media Trade Conference

Submitted by laurap on Fri, 09/18/2026 - 15:58
SEMA MPMC Media Trade Conference

PRI Show exhibitors looking to increase brand visibility and secure valuable media coverage have until Thursday, October 1, to register for the 2027 MPMC Media Trade Conference.

Taking place February 2-4, 2027, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Orlando, the event marks 30 years of connecting motorsports manufacturers with influential media through its highly successful face-to-face meeting format.

For three decades, the Media Trade Conference has helped manufacturers expand their reach by facilitating direct connections with the journalists, editors, podcasters, broadcasters, influencers, and content creators who shape industry conversations and purchasing decisions. Unlike traditional trade shows, where exhibitors focus on buyers and customers, the Media Trade Conference provides a dedicated environment for developing media relationships that can generate year-round exposure.

Each participating manufacturer receives a private meeting suite and can host up to 42 pre-scheduled, 30-minute meetings over three days. These focused conversations create opportunities to discuss new products, company developments, technical expertise, and future editorial opportunities with media outlets serving a wide range of racing and performance audiences.

"I like the idea that you can sit down and, within 30 minutes know, 'This is somebody I really want to work with,' and you get to have those moments repeatedly throughout the day," said Scott Clontz of Mahi Motorsports. "You can walk out of day one with five new contacts saying, 'We are definitely collaborating with them.' You have to work so much harder to do that on your own during your daily work week, whereas here you can do it in one fell swoop."

For PRI Show exhibitors, the event offers a strategic opportunity to maximize marketing efforts by building relationships with media professionals who can feature products, share technical content, conduct interviews, and create stories that reach highly targeted enthusiasts and racers. In addition to the scheduled meetings, attendees benefit from receptions and networking events designed to foster long-term industry connections.

West Desert Reopens Under New Ownership

Submitted by laurap on Fri, 09/18/2026 - 15:38
West Desert racetrack in Utah

Twenty years after the track first opened, Utah Motorsports Campus is reopening to the public under a new name: West Desert.

Under new ownership by Utah-based PV3 Enterprises, the 511-acre campus is once again locally owned and undergoing improvements intended to establish the site as a national center for motorsports. Located approximately 30 minutes from Salt Lake City, the facility includes a 0.7-mile front straight, a 4.5-mile road course, a 0.9-mile karting track, off-road facilities, a skidpad, event spaces, grandstands and additional racing amenities.

"This place has been through a few laps over the years," said Mark Hancock, managing partner of PV3 Enterprises. "While we celebrate 20 years from the original opening of the Miller Motorsports Park, we also celebrate the final lap as Utah Motorsports Campus. Today, we begin a new lap of this iconic racetrack and venue as West Desert."

PV3 Enterprises has invested more than $50 million in the facility since taking over earlier this year, with improvements throughout the property, according to Joe Atkin, general manager of West Desert.

"With plans for additional significant investment in the years ahead, there is a clear commitment to elevating West Desert as a nationally recognized motorsports center of excellence engineered around innovation, performance and community," Atkin said.

Plans call for improvements to the existing Grand Prix track, paddock, garages and grandstands, along with future residential, commercial and retail development surrounding the track. The long-term vision is to create a year-round destination for motorsports, entertainment, innovation, driver development and family activities.

"West Desert has a special place in our state's history. The Miller family's vision and investment created a world-class facility that has brought people together through motorsports and recreation for two decades," said Utah Governor Spencer Cox. "Its return to local ownership is worth celebrating. Utahns are honoring what was built here and investing in new opportunities for the next generation."
