PRI EXPANDS INTERNATIONAL OFFERINGS FOR 2018 TRADE SHOW

Submitted by alanl on Thu, 07/19/2018 - 23:31

New outreach efforts and resources aimed at promoting international business among motorsports professionals will be evident at the 2018 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show, held December 6–8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Now in its 31st year, the world’s premier event for racing and performance buyers, suppliers and service providers will indeed offer more opportunities than ever for industry members from some 70 countries to make valuable connections, forge partnerships, and exchange information at one time in a single location.

In addition to offering a dedicated International Lounge, and providing translators to help overseas guests better communicate and conduct business, Show officials this year will host international media from key regions of the world to facilitate global coverage of the PRI Show. Special events like the International Motorsports Trade Seminar, the International Council of Motorsport Sciences’ (ICMS) Annual Congress, and the all-new International Networking Reception will be of particular interest to PRI’s global audience.

“Every year, thousands of attendees from more than 70 countries attend the PRI Trade Show to see the latest trends and products in the global motorsports industry,” said PRI General Manger Bill Miller. “Because of motorsports’ unrivaled international presence, and the growth in racing series and events such as the FIA World Rallycross Championship, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Formula 1 racing, we increased our media activities and overall international outreach efforts.”

The International Lounge, a dedicated area designed specifically to meet the needs of international attendees, features private meeting rooms, Wi-Fi, printer access, credential badge pickup, and interpreters from several countries who are available by appointment at no charge to assist during meetings. Visitors can also enjoy an espresso or cup of tea in a relaxed atmosphere with other racing industry businesspeople from all over the world.

Now in its third year, PRI’s International Motorsports Trade Seminar showcases expert panelists with experience in international trade providing essential information and insights for overseas buyers seeking to do business with—or increase their imports from—domestic motorsports parts and service providers. This session, which takes place from 8–9 a.m. on Friday, December 7, at the Indiana Convention Center, will be moderated by Linda Spencer, SEMA’s Sr. Director of International and Government Affairs.

Visas are required for all international travel into the United States, and PRI can provide a Visa letter to attendees once they have registered for the PRI Show. The PRI Housing team can also assist in securing a hotel room—simply call 949/499-2044 or 866/635-6600, or email travel@performanceracing.com. PRI 2018 TO HOST 30TH ANNUAL ICMS CONGRESS

Submitted by admin on Thu, 07/19/2018 - 13:33

The International Council of Motorsport Sciences (ICMS) is set to present its 30th Annual Congress at this year’s Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Scheduled for December 5–7, 2018, at the Indiana Convention Center, the conference serves to inform the international motorsports community, different scientific and medical disciplines, sanctioning body personnel, automobile designers and constructors, race team managers and drivers, and industry corporations interested in improving safety and performance for the motorsports participant and highway motorist.

As in previous years, the Congress curriculum will be delivered in educational modules, including medicine and physiology, applied science, logistics and administration, and motorsports safety, and will be presented by some of the foremost practitioners from around the world.

Among the themes to be discussed this year are liability coverage for medical and safety personnel at motorsports facilities; circuit design; advances in cockpit systems for driver protection; 3D printing and other new technological advances; and more.

“The information is very unique, very specialized, and something I can’t get at another conference,” said Richard Lynton, an ER doctor from Folsom, California. “Quite frankly, there is no other conference like it. I’m always happy to attend. I always get brought up to date or learn new information.”

ICMS members have been instrumental in the creation of many of the life-saving procedures and products used in all forms of motorsports today. Whether you’re looking for the latest information in the field or exploring opportunities to learn from experts, the curriculum of the ICMS Annual Congress offers continuing education opportunities that are unsurpassed in motorsports.

The ICMS Annual Congress is among dozens of seminars that are scheduled for this year’s PRI Show, taking place December 6–8 at the Indiana Convention Center. The Show will feature over 1100 companies exhibiting in more than 3300 booths, showcasing the latest developments in auto racing technology to tens of thousands of buyers from all 50 states and 70 countries.

The Congress will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. For more information or to register, visit icmsmotorsportsafety.org. And to register for the PRI Show, visit pri2018.com.

Mopar, Dodge//SRT Debut Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat NHRA Funny Car

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 07/19/2018 - 11:28
A new Mopar-powered National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Funny Car version of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has been debuted.

The new 2019 Mopar Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat NHRA Funny Car body will make its competition debut this weekend at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals Powered by Mopar at Bandimere Speedway near Denver, July 20–22.

The new Funny Car imports visual cues and characteristics from the supercharged, 707-horsepower production Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, while also hitting the demanding performance targets of a race car that reaches 330-plus mph and covers 1,000 ft. in less than four seconds.

The new body features major design changes in three key areas, the front end, bodysides and burst panel placement.

At the front, the shape of the nose has been tweaked, and a new splitter, built of carbon fiber and Kevlar like the rest of the Funny Car body, has been added. The splitter substantially mimics the look and shape of the production vehicle’s splitter while generating greater downforce to help plant the Funny Car to the track.

The bodyside scallops have been redesigned to more closely identify with the production Hellcat while also enhancing on-track function and performance. The deeper character lines help to mitigate the “body burn” common on all Funny Cars due to the close positioning of the exhaust headers.

The location of the burst panel on the hood has also been reworked. The panel is now centered over the top of the engine to more efficiently release energy and pressure in the event of engine issues.

A production Charger SRT Hellcat was used as a template to create the unique vehicle graphics. Front end graphics recreate the distinctive Hellcat grille and badging, and decal markers also call out the air extractors and the hood scoop of the production model.

The new Charger SRT Hellcat Funny Car body replaces the current generation Mopar Dodge Charger R/T race car. First introduced at the dragstrip in 2015, Mopar Dodge//SRT drivers have raced the Charger R/T to 50 wins to date and 42 runner-up finishes, as well as 40 No. 1 qualifier spots. Ron Capps claimed his 2016 NHRA Funny Car World Championship in the current Charger R/T body.

Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) Funny Car driver Matt Hagan will be the first to harness the new 10,000-plus horsepower car at the Dodge Mile-High NHRA Nationals Powered by Mopar. Hagan’s DSR teammates, Jack Beckman, Ron Capps and Tommy Johnson Jr., will make the transition to the new Funny Car body during the 2018 season.

ACO, FIA Review LMP1 Equivalence Of Technology

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 07/19/2018 - 11:16
A few alterations have been made to the Equivalence of Technology (EoT) in the LMP1 category, as announced by the ACO and the FIA ahead of the World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Silverstone.

The aim of the EoT is to enable private teams entering recent non-hybrid cars to approach the performance levels of the Toyota hybrid prototypes developed by the Japanese manufacturer since 2016.

“…the performance gap of 0.25 percent is being reduced to zero percent (the 0.5-seconds difference per lap at Le Mans between hybrids and non-hybrids is no longer relevant),” ACO’s Technical Delegate Thierry Bouvet said. “The fuel flow for privateer LMP1s goes up from 108 kg/h to 115 kg/h compared to 80 kg/h for the hybrids. Furthermore, the fuel flow of the refueling system used by private teams has been increased. And last, but not least, cars powered by normally-aspirated engines will benefit from a 15kg weight reduction.”

This year, these two types of technologies are in direct competition, with a single works team, Toyota, running a hybrid prototype (LMP1H) against non-hybrid cars (LMP1NH) entered by private teams.

These alterations have been decided in light of the large amount of information collected at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans and are the fruit of hard work and careful consideration between the ACO, the FIA and the competitors. They come into effect from the 6 Hours of Silverstone onwards.

Historic USA Nationals Features New Format

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 07/19/2018 - 10:31
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series begins in August with a final stop in Wisconsin for the biggest payday of the season, August 2-4.

While the event known as the USA Nationals has become a staple on the World of Outlaws schedule, a new format will shake things up this year.

For over three decades, the event at Cedar Lake Speedway—located just across the Minnesota and Wisconsin state line—has attracted some of the best Dirt Late Model drivers in the country in hopes of grabbing the coveted eagle trophy and the $50,000 prize.

Similar to years past, a full $6,000-to-win shootout will take place on Thursday, August 2. On Friday, however, rather than qualifying against the clock, drivers will be placed into a pair of heat races. Drivers will register and draw a number at the World of Outlaws Command Center which will place them in the first set of heat races.

The second set of heat races will use an inverted lineup based on the number drawn. For instance, if a driver draws a 10 for the first heat race, in the second heat race his draw will be scored as a 90.

Each set of five drivers in the same respective positions in the inverted draw list will then be shaken up to rearrange drivers against different competitors for the second set of heat races

Passing points will be accumulated based on positions gained in the two heat races. The 16 drivers with the most passing points will be locked into the $50,000-to-win Sears Craftsman Feature. Furthermore, the top eight will transfer into the USA Nationals Dash to compete for starting spots in the top four rows.

Friday’s show will also showcase the FansFund Dash, the Midwest’s top local Late Model talent, a fireworks show and a party in the Cedar Lake Arena.

On Saturday, an autograph session and a meet-and-greet with the drivers will kick off the final day of the 2018 USA Nationals.

Tickets to the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series USA Nationals are available online here.

Jimmy Dilamarter, mechanic, fabricator, car builder, crew chief and team manager, has been named the 2018 recipient of the Peter Bryant Challenger Award for Excellence in Engineering.

Dilamarter's name will be placed on the perpetual award as part of the evening's activities at The Racing History Project's special "Riverside Revisited" dinner event which will be held on the evening of September 8, at the Automotive Driving Museum in El Segundo.

"This is another very worthy name that we're very proud to add to the Bryant Trophy," said Racing History Project founder Dave Wolin. "Jimmy Dilamarter ranks among the best ever; he brought a lot to the sport. He's a proud guy for sure but he's never boastful about his many achievements. We're giving it a shot at doing that for him with this recognition. I know that this award's late namesake Peter Bryant would heartily approve."

In his long and distinguished career, Dilamarter worked on cars that raced across the world's most famous race tracks. He worked as an IndyCar Crew Chief and oversaw Formula One cars as a team manger.

His name is almost always paired with his boss and long-time friend Parnelli Jones. Dilamarter's work on race cars with the "Vel's Parnelli Jones" logo on them includes victories at the Indianapolis 500 as well a host of other races.

First presented in 2010 at the Racing History Project's "Legends of Riverside" event at the Riverside Raceway Museum, one year after Peter Bryant's passing, the Lexan and titanium permanent award, pictured above, features a representation of Bryant's famous T-22 race car and pays homage to the body of work that he did in the technical and design side of the racing sport.
