BILL SMITH, RITCHIE LEWIS EARN LUCAS OIL SERIES PROMOTIONS

Bill Smith has been promoted to series director for both the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and the Lucas Oil Midwest Short Course League. He had been race director for those series the last two years.

Smith’s promotion was announced by Ritchie Lewis, who had been series director for both. Lewis has since been elevated to Lucas Oil director of racing operations.

“Bill Smith has proven he is the right person for the job,” said Bob Patison, executive vice president, Lucas Oil Products, Inc. “His knowledge of off-road racing is exceptional and his no-nonsense approach to management has proven quite effective. Ritchie Lewis will assume an expanded role within the company, overseeing the performance of a number of key Lucas Oil race properties.”

Before his hire as race director, Smith worked as a crew chief for several Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series drivers, including Carl Renezeder, Scott Douglas and Rod Millen. “I love off-road racing,” Smith explained. “It’s three-dimensional compared to most other forms of motorsports. The Georgia native has been with Lucas Oil Products since 2007, when he became series director for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. He added the role of director of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series at the end of 2012.

No Xfinity Series Program For Ganassi In 2019

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 01/07/2019 - 11:04
Chip Ganassi Racing announced that the team has shut down its NASCAR Xfinity Series program, effective immediately.

The news comes after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the home of Jeff and Paulette Carpoff, the owners of primary Gannasi sponsor DC Solar, in December. The reason for the raid has not been released.

DC Solar has been a primary supporter of Chip Ganassi Racing and had been announced as the primary sponsor of the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro that was to be driven by Ross Chastain in the Xfinity Series this year.

“Due to a lack of sponsorship funding we will cease operation of the No. 42 Xfinity team in 2019,” Team Owner Chip Ganassi said in a statement. “This was a difficult decision for me to make and it comes with much anguish as this is a championship caliber team (having won six races and finished second in the owners championship) and more importantly because it affects a number of good people’s livelihoods. Running a car without proper funding is difficult to do.”

Ganassi said the team’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series program, which will field entries for Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch, will not be affected.

DC Solar entered NASCAR in 2015, sponsoring Brennan Poole in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. DC Solar has grown its involvement since and sponsored Ganassi drivers Larson and Jamie McMurray in select Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races in 2018.

Ganassi had previously announced that Chastain would drive for the team in the Xfinity Series this year with DC Solar returning to the team as the primary sponsor.

Chastain, in a three-race deal with Ganassi last year with DC Solar as his sponsor, earned his first Xfinity Series victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Visit chipganassiracing.com for more information on the team.
