Pat Musi Racing Engines Takes Center Stage For PRI Show Seminar

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 11/18/2015 - 06:12
One of the top drag race engine builders of the last half-century and his record breaking racer-daughter will headline an exclusive seminar at the 2015 PRI Trade Show.

Pat Musi of Pat Musi Racing Engines and his daughter Lizzy, who is also president of Musi Enterprises in Mooresville, North Carolina, are the featured guests for a sit-down interview style presentation titled “Powering Performance: Pat Musi Racing Engines” scheduled from 8–9 a.m. on Friday, December 11, at the Indiana Convention Center, Room 242.

In this wide-ranging session, Pat and Lizzy Musi will discuss their thriving business, how it has evolved over the years, how it’s been so successful, how it has addressed different challenges, how it is being positioned for the future, and much more. Questions will be delivered by PRI Magazine editor Dan Schechner, as well as audience members, who are invited to participate in the Q&A.

“As far as PRI is concerned, Pat and Lizzy Musi are drag racing royalty,” said Schechner, who also organizes the Trade Show’s educational programming. “I cannot wait to learn how this iconic company operates, how Pat and Lizzy view the current racing environment, and what the future holds for this elite business. Attendees are in for an unforgettable session on Friday morning!”

Born and raised in the small town of Carteret, New Jersey, Pat Musi has become, quite simply, a drag racing superstar. Having cut his teeth street racing before moving to the drag strip, Musi in 1970—at the age of 18—opened a small speed shop behind his father’s business.

Along with Musi’s success behind the wheel, Pat’s Speed Shop would become the foundation for a multi-time championship-winning operation spanning the US and, indeed, the world. His clients over the years have hailed from coast to coast, as well as the Middle East, the Caribbean, and more.

From dominating NMCA Pro Street in the 1990s to obliterating the ranks of NHRA Pro Modified, PDRA Pro Nitrous and the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod Series in 2014, Musi Racing Engines has truly earned its place among doorslammer racing’s upper class.

Proudly carrying the family tradition is Lizzy Musi, whose own accomplishments are piling up. Among them are PDRA Rookie of the Year honors in 2014 for her feats in Pro Nitrous, where she became the first woman ever to break the 200 mph barrier in 1/8-mile doorslammer racing. Beyond her on-track achievements, Lizzy also runs day-to-day operations as president of Mooresville-based Musi Enterprises.

“Pat Musi injected the sport of drag racing with a fun new energy when he came to rule Pro Street competition. He was wicked fast, with some of the baddest race engines in the business,” said John Kilroy, producer of the PRI Trade Show. “The PRI team is proud to have Pat and Lizzy share their experiences and insights in running a successful race engine business in this special seminar.”

This can’t-miss presentation is offered free of charge for registered Trade Show attendees. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, however, as seating is limited.

F1 Announces Specs For 2017 Client Engines

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 11/18/2015 - 05:02
Details about the specification of F1's alternative—or client—engine for 2017 have emerged.

Previously, it was believed independent outfits like Ilmor or Cosworth were being invited to bid to exclusively supply Formula One with a 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6, with the regulations to run parallel to the existing 1.6-liter engines.

The specifications now say the new engine will be a 2.5-liter V6 or smaller, with one or two turbochargers producing greater than 870 hp.

The engine will have no limits on revs, engine durability or fuel flow, as well as no restrictions on freedom in the area of the exhaust; it will also have no hybrid power.

Mercedes, the F1 championship team for 2014 and 2015, has made it clear that its officials are not happy with the plan.

"I think many of us share the opinion that the 'balance of performance engine' does not work. It doesn't work in any other category," said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. "We hear about the aggravation in GT racing, and it (hurts) my head in hearing these ideas."

He won the world championship title in dramatic fashion by defeating rival and playoff top seed Jack Beckman in a winner-take-all head-to-head semifinal meeting at the final race of the season.

Worsham, 45, raced to four victories during the season, all coming during the Countdown playoffs at the controls of his DHL Toyota Camry for Kalitta Motorsports. Skillman was the only rookie driver to qualify for the Countdown playoffs and he finished fifth in the Pro Stock points standings. After a strong inaugural season, the CARS Tour has announced its 2016 schedule of events.

The second year touring series will once again host ten major events featuring twin 100-150 lap races for both the Super Late Model and Late Model Stock divisions.

Each race will pay $5500 to win and $550 to start just as it did in year one. In addition to the purse on the line at each race, a program will be announced in the near future will make the CARS Tour an unmatched option available to competitors.

The 2016 season will once again kick off at Michael Diaz’s Southern National Motorsport Park in Kenly, North Carolina. Hickory Motor Speedway, Orange County Speedway and Southern National will all once again host multiple races this upcoming season. Races at Tri-County Motor Speedway and Concord Speedway produced some of the most intense battles on the track this past year so it’s only fitting the two facilities return in 2016.

“We have assembled a great ten race schedule for the 2016 season that has us excited about next year already. Just like last year, we reached out and worked with the parties that were willing to work with us to avoid conflicting race dates for the fans, competitors, and series alike,” said the CARS Tour Owner Jack McNelly. “Many of the returning tracks feature the same dates as they were on in 2015 to help build and create tradition and familiarity with fans. This year exceeded our wildest expectations, however; we feel with a year under our belts next year has all the potential be even better.”
