‘CRA Road to Bristol’ Program Details Revealed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 01/03/2017 - 03:31
Champion Racing Association (CRA) officials recently announced the “CRA Road to Bristol” program for teams in the ARCA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS, the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance, and the Lawrence Towing/CRA Street Stocks.

While the U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing presented by Vore’s Welding at Bristol Motor Speedway, May 19-21, is being hailed as the biggest short track racing event for 2017, officials see the events prior to Bristol as having major significance as well.

For the Super Late Models in the ARCA/CRA Super Series, there are four events prior to their inaugural event at Bristol Motor Speedway (co-sanctioned by the CARS Tour and the Southern Super Series). Those events are CRA SpeedFest 2017 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Georgia, the Southern Super Series co-sanctioned event at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in Tennessee, the 7-UP 100 at Toledo Speedway in Ohio and the 125-lap tune up for the Anderson 400 at Anderson Speedway in Indiana.

For the U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing, CRA officials plan to have provisionals for the top two in series points that don’t make it through Saturday’s qualifying. In addition, guaranteed starting spots in Sunday’s 100-lap feature will go to the winners of each one of the events previously mentioned, if those teams do not make it in through Saturday’s qualifying.

The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour teams will also find a number of different ways to be guaranteed a start in their respective Bristol event. First, the top two in 2017 series points that don’t make the event through other qualifying opportunities will have provisional starting spots. Additionally, the top two finishers in the SpeedFest event and the Baer Field Motorsports Park season opening event will have a guaranteed spot in the main event field if they do not make it in through other qualifying opportunities.

For the CRA Street Stocks, the three events leading up to Bristol are Cabin Fever at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, the $3,000 to Win 200 lap event at Shady Bowl Speedway in Ohio (the first event in the CRA Street Stock Four Crown Championship), and a 75-Lap event at Anderson Speedway. The top two in series points that have been to all the events, which fail to make the main feature through other qualifying opportunities, will have a guaranteed starting spot in the U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing main feature. In addition, the top two finishers in the previously mentioned first three events of the season will also have a guaranteed starting spot if they do not make the main feature through other qualifying opportunities.

Officials also announced that all main features will have a minimum of 36 cars if necessary to accommodate the guaranteed starters; therefore, plenty of spots are available for any team to make the main feature through qualifying on Saturday. Officials expect to have multiple features in every division, therefore every racer present with a legal car, will have the opportunity to race in a feature, with a special “U.S. Nationals of Short Track Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway” trophy to honor their victory at the legendary track.

Full purse details and entry forms are expected to be released on www.cra-racing.com later this month (January).

NASCAR Europe Launches New Elite Club Division

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 12/29/2016 - 06:11
Building on the success of the past several seasons of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series throughout Europe, the series has announced the creation of a new division in the popular series.

Drivers and stock car newcomers will be able to experiment the NASCAR-sanctioned series by contesting four events in a new division.

In addition to the regular Elite 1 and Elite 2 classes, the new Elite Club division has been specifically designed to attract drivers wanting to discover this NASCAR-sanctioned stock car championship based in Europe.

The new division will stage meetings on Thursday and Friday at the following four road courses: Valencia (Spain), Hockenheim (Germany), Franciacorta (Italy) and Zolder (Belgium). Each meeting will feature three, 30-minute track sessions.

There won’t not be races per se, but track sessions where speed and lap time consistency will be crucial. Each driver will be offered 90 minutes of track time at each of the four events. The first session will be a practice one to learn the race track, while the other two will be timed lapping sessions.

Series’ officials will determine a “Reference Lap Time” for the track and the objective for each Elite Club driver will be to constantly produce lap times that are as close as possible to the Reference Lap Time.

The difference between the driver’s lap times and the “Reference Lap Time,” being it negative or positive, will count as a “penalty.” The classification of every session will be established according to the smallest combined penalty times, taking into account each driver’s five closest laps to the Reference Lap Time.

Each meeting will conclude with a podium ceremony.

Season points will be awarded as this: 43 points to the leader and a one-point gap to the following positions, plus a three-point bonus for the win and a one-point bonus for the closest lap to the Reference Lap Time.

At the end of the year, the top three drivers in the Elite Club final standings will receive an invitation to attend the NASCAR Night Of Champions Touring Awards, plus an invitation for two persons to attend the upcoming NASCAR Daytona 500 or a contribution to the budget needed to compete in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series race weekend in 2018.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 12/28/2016 - 09:08
The AAM Group, through its Parts Pro marketing program, presented the brand new Excellence Cup honoring the Fastest Overall Perfect Engine Build Winner to Team Fragola from Peach County High School, GA, coached by Johnny Rickerson, at the 2016 Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Dual National Championships in Indianapolis. This capped of AAM’s pledge to honor every team building a perfect engine in the Elite 8 competitions held at the SEMA and PRI Shows.

AAM created The Excellence Cup as a perpetual award that will be kept and displayed by the winning school for one year and then transferred annually to the fastest perfect engine building team among the Elite 8 teams. The base will be inscribed with the team’s name and school of all past winners as a perpetual recognition of their accomplishments.

AAM Program Sales Manager Jerry Simpson presented the awards at the season-finale event conducted at PRI. Teams that achieved at least one perfect engine build at one of the Dual National Championship events were awarded a plaque, while the team that clocked the fastest overall perfect engine was awarded with the Excellence Cup.

Elite 8 Perfect Engine Build Honorees
• Team Fragola, Peach County High School, GA (Instructor: Johnny Rickerson) (Excellence Cup winner)
• Team Aeromotive, Fremd High School, IL (Instructor: Steven Elza)
• Team Be Cool, Elkhart Area Career Center, IN (Instructor: Ryan Gortney)

“Parts Pro is proud to recognize the teamwork, effort, and skill required to achieve a perfect engine build.”  said AAM Group Program Sales Manager Jerry Simpson.  “A remarkable seven of the eight teams competing had at least one perfect build and six of those seven had two of three rounds judged perfect. Parts Pro wanted to recognize this extraordinary display of quality consistency, and commitment.  Award winners include the Howard’s Cams team of Belvidere North High School, the first all-girl team to make Dual Championship and builders of four perfect engines during the two competitions! We are honored to work with these inspiring students, and hope this recognition will encourage future participating teams to aspire to the highest levels of precision, pride, and expertise in our industry.”

The AAM Group is a distribution group. Skip Barber Racing School announced its new Learning Center at Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) in Dawsonville, Georgia. The state of the art facilities at Atlanta Motorsports Park highly complement the race track which was recently voted one of the Top Ten tracks in North America. AMP was designed by famed Formula One circuit architect, Hermann Tilke who created the two-mile road course with 16 turns and 98 feet of elevation changes – not to mention a new clubhouse, skid pad, ice hill and karting track.

This initiative allows Skip Barber Racing School the opportunity to consolidate operations for its racing and driving school programming at Atlanta Motorsports Park in 2017. While Atlanta Motorsports Park will be a cornerstone for its business activities in 2017, Skip Barber Racing will continue to visit other iconic tracks in 2017 as it has for 41 years.

“Atlanta Motorsports Park offers one of the best environments for teaching and is a good partner for Skip Barber Racing School,” says Michael Culver, CEO of Skip Barber Racing School. “The facilities are state of the art. The track offers challenge and potential for skill development for racers of all levels. Further, AMP provides Skip Barber Racing School the opportunity to more substantially grow its corporate and private events business.”

Jeremy Porter, CEO of AMP states, “We believe that our innovative business model will align well with Skip Barber Racing School’s iconic brand. We are excited to work in partnership to grow the next generation of racers and motor sports enthusiasts.”

This move to Atlanta Motorsports Park allows Skip Barber Racing School the opportunity to continue to headquarter the company in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. In addition to hosting its school dates at AMP, the Skip Barber Winter Race Series will visit Atlanta Motorsports Park for Rounds 4, 5 & 6 below:

Carteret County Speedway Names New General Mgr.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 12/28/2016 - 08:12
Carteret County Speedway has hired Chris Carter as its new general manager for the 2017 season.

Carter, from Pascagoula, Mississippi, has previously been a promoter at Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama and Sunny South Raceway in Alabama. Now, Carter will join the Carteret County Speedway team with hopes of bringing more growth to the speedway.

“When I got here, this is by far, of all the racetracks I’ve been to, the most beautiful facility I’ve ever seen as far as a local facility goes,” Carter said.  “It’s really nice, the setup is really neat, the crosswalk and everything.”

Carter is excited about working at Carteret County Speedway and is ready to get the season started.

“I have no words to express how excited I am to be a part of this racetrack and being a part of what Bobby Watson and everyone else has a part of this track,” Carter remarked. “From what I’ve seen, the racing has been really good and I’m looking forward to a great year of racing.  We’re going to do some big things this year.”

The main goal for Carter is to expand car counts, which grew all throughout the 2016 season, while also continuing to produce exciting and entertaining racing for the fans in attendance.

“My vision is, I want good car counts, a lot of fans and everyone to leave this track at the end of race night happy and entertained to the fullest extent.”

The Mississippi resident grew up watching races at the historic Mobile International Speedway in Alabama as a child. He continued to gain a role inside the sport, doing public relations for Cale Gale when he started racing and stepping up to run Montgomery Motor Speedway.

“Many years ago, when I was eight years old, my uncle had a racecar that competed at Mobile International Speedway so I started going with the family there,” Carter explained. “It’s just something that got into me and something that I really wanted to do.

“As years went on, I got involved with Mobile International Speedway. Then, as Cale Gale came along, I got involved with his racing career and started doing his PR and escalated from there.”

Carter admit he’s not perfect, but says he has learned from mistakes he has made in the past and will apply everything he’s learned at Carteret County Speedway in hopes of making the 4/10-mile track in Swansboro, North Carolina the premier short track on the East Coast.

“I had opportunities arise and took advantage of those opportunities,” Carter commented. “I made some mistakes on the way.  I can’t say everything’s been fine, but I’ve learned from those mistakes and I’m really excited about what I’ve learned from these other tracks to apply to here.”

Carteret County Speedway will get 2017 started with drift racing on Sunday, March 12th.  The 2017 regular season will go green on Sunday, April 2.

A new 360 winged sprint car series is launching next year on the West Coast with the creation of the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour Presented by Abreu Vineyards.

The series, for 360 winged sprint cars, will contest a 12-race schedule at five tracks, with contingency awards, enhanced purses and large point fund payouts available for race teams.

The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour Presented by Abreu Vineyards will have their inaugural event at Antioch (Calif.) Speedway on April 1. The bay area track will also see a return visit on June 17.

Placerville Speedway and Stockton Dirt Track will both host four races each. Placerville’s foothill facility holds series race two on April 15, another single event on May 6, and the high paying two day Nor-Cal Shootout on Sept. 22-23.

The Stockton Dirt Track presents its first race on May 27, with the Jimmy Sills Classic on July 2, the Salute to Leroy Van Conett on Aug. 26 and the inaugural season finale, the 34th Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson, on Nov. 4th.

Calistoga Speedway in the Napa Valley wine region will host the Wine Country Classic on June 24, while Nevada’s Fernley 95A Speedway in the desert area outside of Reno will have their race on July 29.

Thanks to the support from Matt Wood of Elk Grove Ford and David Abreu of Abreu Vineyards, the initial champion of the series will be awarded $10,000 of a more than $60,000 point fund. The top 15 teams following the series will also participate in the year end fund, which is expected to be augmented with other announcements in the near future.

Basic purse payouts will see $2,500 to win and, and thanks to John Bianchi of Bianchi Farms, $400 to start the feature event. No matter the car count, every team entered will be taking home a share of the monetary awards.

NASCAR star and open wheel enthusiast Kyle Larson has also offered a $500 bonus to any full-time team who wins a feature event, allowing the winner’s share to potentially grow to $3,000. Additional race dates, such as the above mentioned Nor-Cal Shootout, will offer purses greater than the standard payouts, with details on those events available at a later date.

Also, as an added benefit to race teams, the nightly purses will be paid out at the track when that night of competition is completed.

The Sprint Car Challenge Tour will also debut with a substantial contingency package that will provide over $20,000 in certificates and cash to racers over the course of the 12-race season.

Awards at each event will include LRB Race Products $100 to fast time, $250 apiece from All Star Performance, ART, BR Motorsports, and King Racing Products for the top four in each heat, RacePartsTrader.com $100 to the dash winner, Bullard Construction $100 to 7th place in the B-main, Pit Stop USA $200 to the A-main Hard Charger, MW Metal Works $100 to the fastest lap in the A-Main, and Jocko’s Sprint Parts $100 to 6th place in the A-main. Also, Garth Moore Insurance and Financial Services will provide a $1,000 prize to the series Rookie of the Year. Several more contingency sponsors will be announced as the season approaches.
