The 2026 ARCA Menards Series West schedule has been announced with 13 races set at 11 tracks spread across six states, series officials announced.

The calendar expands from 12 races in 2025 to 13 in 2026, the most since 2019.

Races at Phoenix Raceway, Sonoma Raceway and The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be in conjunction with NASCAR's national series. The race at Portland International Raceway will be held in conjunction with the NTT Data IndyCar Series, which also joins the March Phoenix weekend.

All 12 standalone races will be streamed live on FloRacing. The combination race with the ARCA Menards Series at Phoenix Raceway will be televised live on FS1.

Alexis DeJoria First Non-Force Female to Drive for JFR

Alexis DeJoria

John Force Racing will expand to four teams for the 2026 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and beyond with the signing of 2014 U.S. Nationals Funny Car winner Alexis DeJoria to a multi-year contract with the Brownsburg, Indiana-based organization.

DeJoria is the only female currently competing in the NHRA Funny Car category and was the first woman in Funny Car competition to break the three-second barrier when she posted a 3.997-second elapsed time at the 2014 Winternationals in Pomona, California. DeJoria has earned six NHRA Funny Car event victories in 16 final-round appearances and has six top 10 finishes. DeJoria's team will continue to have primary sponsorship from Bandero Premium Tequila.

John Force Racing's 2026 driver lineup will consist of DeJoria, 2012 Funny Car Champion Jack Beckman, Top Fuel driver Josh Hart, who was signed by the organization to a multi-year contract in October, and a driver to be announced to drive the Cornwell Tools Chevrolet SS Funny Car.

"Being asked to join John Force Racing is a huge honor and an incredible opportunity to build upon my career," DeJoria said. "Since day one, my goal has been to become the sport's first female Funny Car world champion, and that is what I have been working towards for many years. I've been fortunate to drive for some of the best teams and team owners out here. To be invited to drive for John Force Racing means so much to me and is another step forward in my career. JFR has a Funny Car program that's unmatched and the results speak for themselves; all you have to do is look at their track record."

"Alexis is a fierce competitor who has earned her place in the Funny Car ranks and it's great to have her become the newest member of our team," said John Force, CEO. "I'm obviously pretty familiar with the dynamic between father and daughter competing in NHRA drag racing so I respect and admire what Alexis and her father, John Paul, have built together over the years. John Paul is a global success story who understands the importance of both family and business partnerships, which is exactly what John Force Racing has been built on. Our team just earned our 24th World Championship, but I'm already looking forward to getting started on next season."

Further announcements about the program will be made in the coming weeks.

Speedway Motorsports

Speedway Motorsports, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based owner and operator of multiple race tracks and facilities around the United States, was one of 67 finalists recognized in the Sports Business Journal's (SBJ) 2025 Best Places to Work in Sports, earning a silver medal in the owner/operator category for organizations with 50 or more employees

"Creating remarkable experiences for fans, impacting the communities we call home, and investing in the well-being of our teammates are at the heart of who we are," said Marcus Smith, President and CEO of Speedway Motorsports. "In an industry centered on entertainment, it's our people who make the difference. We want Speedway Motorsports to be a place where guests feel welcomed and inspired, and where our teammates have the opportunity to excel. Being named a Best Place to Work in Sports Silver Medalist for the second year in a row is both an honor and a reflection of the culture our team builds every day."

Speedway Motorsports has more than 700 employees across 11 motorsports facilities, as well as its souvenir merchandising subsidiary, SMI Properties; its race car manufacturing business, U.S. Legend Cars International; its radio broadcast arm, the Performance Racing Network and zMAX Micro-lubricants, an engine additive company.

More than 9,000 employees of 98 companies took part in a confidential employee satisfaction survey administered by SBJ partner, Omaha, Nebraska-based Quantum Workplace. The survey measured more than 40 key areas that make up an organization's culture, such as employees' trust in leadership, company perks and communication.

SRO GT Academy Goes Global with Pan-Continental Young Driver Competition

Submitted by ajh on Tue, 12/02/2025 - 10:45
SRO GT Academy

SRO GT Academy is expanding its next-generation talent search to international series for its 2026 season.

Four drivers--one each from British GT and the continental GT World Challenge series in America, Asia and Australia--will earn a fully funded seat at the 2027 CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. The selected drivers will share a Silver Cup entry run by an accomplished professional team.

Candidates must be aged under 30 on December 31, 2026, and hold an FIA Silver driver classification for that season. They will be judged using SRO GT Academy's assessment-based criteria, which seeks to reveal each driver's true ability and potential by eliminating external factors such as co-driver performance, reliability and luck.

Rather than focusing on race results, the process rewards individual attributes such as qualifying pace, average stint times and a driver's conduct off the circuit. In tandem, they are penalized for unforced errors and unsporting behavior. The system also ensures that Silver competitors from a variety of classes can be judged equally.

SRO GT Academy was launched during the 2025 season within the FFSA French GT Championship. The winner, 19-year-old Gaspard Simon, received a $175,000 contribution towards a GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup or GT2 European Series seat in 2026, as well as support and mentoring as he graduates towards the highest level of GT competition.

The concept will also expand into GT2 Europe next year when the prize on offer is a seat with a Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Team for the following season's GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. This contest is also supported by Maserati, Ginetta and Pirelli, as well as Mercedes-AMG.

Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell At PRI Show

Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell At PRI Show

Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard will bring his "miRAGE" Mitsubishi Mirage R4, which competes in the American Rally Association, to the PRI Show. He will also appear in the PRI Paddock for a live interview on Saturday, December 13.

If a correlation can be made between playing the guitar at the highest level in a world-renowned rock band and driving a rally car then Vivian Campbell has found a way to work it out. Both require absolute commitment to perform on each stage, plus finesse and skills beyond normal comprehension that can deliver euphoria.

Veteran rock guitarist Campbell has excelled at his melodious craft in one of the world's most famous bands for more than 30 years. He also played in Dio on the band's first three albums, was a member of Whitesnake during the band's big-hair heyday in the latter 1980s, and was an original member of Northern Ireland's Sweet Savage.

While Campbell has earned his reputation as an exceptional guitarist and made a career by playing music, that wasn't enough. Now, he is fulfilling his childhood dreams of racing lore and feeding that passion as an adult in rally racing. Campbell competes in the American Rally Association (ARA) and will bring his rally car to the 2025 PRI Show, December 11-13 in downtown Indianapolis, where you can see it on display in the Green Lobby of the Indiana Convention Center (ICC) in Aisle 7100 in between Hammertown and the PAC Lounge. You can't miss it. It will be covered with Def Leppard logos and the logos from other bands he's played in over the years.

In addition, he will be interviewed live at the PRI Paddock, located in the Yellow Hall at the Capitol Avenue entrance of the ICC, on Saturday, December 13, at 10:30 a.m. ET.

All I Want Is Everything

But why rally, and why now at age 63?

"I got into rally after I moved to New Hampshire from Los Angeles in the summer of 2019," Campbell explained. "Normally, I'm touring every summer with Def Leppard. In 2020, when COVID-19 hit, all of a sudden we weren't going anywhere."

As an owner of several sports cars, Campbell had joined Club Motorsports in Tamworth, New Hampshire, which is described as "a premier country club for enthusiasts of vintage and performance cars." However, due to its location, the track is seasonal and closes for the winter. "I was looking around for an alternative to pass my time because I wasn't traveling for work, and I just wanted to play with cars and indulge my motorsports passions. I realized that the Team O'Neil rally school was a couple of hours up the road from me. In December 2020, I went up, and I did their five-day rally course."

From there, Campbell returned each of the following four months until the staff recommended that he try an actual rally instead of just attending the rally school.

"They organize a biannual rally sprint on their property, and they had one in June of 2021. That was my first competitive rally experience."

Campbell rented a four-wheel-drive 2003 Subaru and won his class the first time out. "Then I did my first national in July of 2021 when I entered the New England Forest Rally. And not only was it my first national rally, but it ended up being my first rollover crash. It didn't end so well. But experience is a great teacher."

Thankfully, the damage from the single roll wasn't too severe. Ryan Thompson and his team from Thompson Racing Fabrication (TRF) in Cedar, Michigan, put the car back together.

Campbell went on to compete in the Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) in October of that year in the car, which was his first national finish. He has conquered numerous stages since, competing in the Sno Drift Rally, 100 Acre Wood Rally, Oregon Trail Rally, Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR), and the Olympus Rally. For 2025, his newly built car by TRF is a 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage R4, which is affectionately known as "miRAGE," and competes in the ARA's RC2 classification. He took it to the Overmountain Rally in September, where he and co-driver Michael Hordijk finished 11th overall of 51 entries, and first in the O4WD class.

Skill Honing

Campbell's fascination with rally and fast cars began when he was a child, and the family spent their summers in Buncrana, located in County Donegal in Ireland.

"Every summer I'd be watching flying Ford Escorts all over the place as part of the Donegal International Rally, and Roger Clark and all these great old rally drivers. It was always my favorite form—in fact, it was the only form of motorsport I was really passionately interested in and really, really wanted to try."

After learning his skills at Team O'Neil, Campbell attributes his success to the teaching of Tim O'Neil and Canadian championship driver Antoine L'Estage." I've been trying to pick the brains of people like Antoine and Tim O'Neil and the more experienced drivers. I'm realizing that I still have a lot to learn because I'm a hell of a guitar player, but I'm still a newbie rally driver."

Campbell plans to visit the PRI Show to expand his knowledge of the racing industry and, at the same time, bring more attention to rally racing in America. "It amazes me that it is such a great, great motorsport, and the people who do follow it are so passionate about it. It's such a great community and a very, very helpful and inclusive community. But it's really a little bit under the radar here in North America, where it's such a massive sport in WRC in Europe and the rest of the world."

In addition to showcasing his rally car at the Show, he will promote his rally involvement on his social media channels. "I want to use my clout with Def Leppard and my music career to bring some more attention to the American Rally Association to get more people to it and get more excitement—just more eyeballs to it." Hence, wrapping the car with the iconic Def Leppard logo.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Campbell explained that 2026 affords him the opportunity to "actually get a good run at a bunch of nationals. I'm hoping to do between four and six next year, starting with 100 Acre Wood." However, work is calling, and he will have to miss starting his season at the Sno Drift Rally in February due to Def Leppard's residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Campbell's goal for next season is to push himself as a driver, and "to improve in the science of notes and rally and the whole overall package and just the sense of fulfillment. I have reached the top of my trade as a guitar player, and that was a huge passion for me and the biggest passion of my life. Ironically, because of the convergence of my moving to New Hampshire and a year later COVID happening, I happened to, at such a late stage, get to actually live out my rally passion. So now I just want to take it as far as I can, comfortably and naturally."

Get a Glimpse of Racing History at the PRI Show

Submitted by ajh on Mon, 12/01/2025 - 17:05
IMS Museum Lotus 29

A 1963 Lotus 29 once driven by Dan Gurney, which helped kickstart the rear-engine revolution in America, will be on display in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum's booth #6140 at the 2025 PRI Show next week.

When attendees arrive at the 2025 PRI Show next week, they'll see thousands of new and innovative motorsports parts and products—whether it's horsepower-boosting engine components, cutting-edge machinery that improves shop efficiency or life-saving safety advancements—that are driving the racing and performance industry toward the future. But one exhibitor is bucking that trend, instead offering today's motorsports professionals a glimpse of racing's past.

Located in booth #6140 (in the room across from the NHRA stage), the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) Museum will be shining a light on the early days of racing—and its capacity for innovation—by bringing two historic vehicles to the PRI Show floor: the 1909 Premier, an artifact from the early days of IMS and motor racing, and a 1963 Lotus 29 once driven by Dan Gurney, which helped kickstart the rear-engine revolution in America.

The 1909 Premier is a true one-of-one, according to IMS Museum Restoration Manager Dan Rosenau, and will stand in stark contrast to not only the highly engineered, cutting-edge vehicles you will find elsewhere on the Show floor, but the Lotus sitting next to it, too.

"It's basically an open frame, open engine. It's like a locomotive on wheels," Rosenau said. "The driver and riding mechanic are right up on top of the thing with the open engine in front of them. There's no oil pan on the car, the crankshaft is out in the air, as is the valvetrain, so they're just getting showered with dirt and oil driving this monstrous machine."

But what makes the car really unique, he said, is the 200-plus hand-drilled holes in the car's 3/8-in. steel frame. "Back then, they had maximum weight for race cars, not minimum weight," Rosenau said. "And you don't just fire up the Black and Decker."

The original builders of the car, which Rosenau says has "cylinders the size of paint cans," proceeded to use a hand-crank tool to drill holes all over the car in an effort to make weight.

"It's a really bizarre car," he said, "and a really cool piece."

IMS Lotus 29

The Lotus 29 that will be on display is a bit more traditional; however, it's not without its own backstory.

Raced to a seventh-place finish in the 1963 Indianapolis 500, Gurney's Ford-powered Lotus was one of two rear-engine cars from the British marque to be entered that year and signaled the start of a brand-new era for open-wheel racing.

It is also a product of the IMS Museum's own restoration team. The museum's in-house staff recently returned the car to its 1963 race day livery and configuration, which required Rosenau and his crew to hunt down an aluminum 260 Ford engine—like the one Gurney ran that year—to drop in the back and make it a true restoration.

The problem? Because the engine never made it to production, only a dozen or so were ever manufactured. And although it's similar to the production engine found in the Ford Mustang, nothing from the production, cast-iron engine interchanges with the aluminum version.

Thanks to some top-notch detective work, the IMS Museum sourced two new engines for the restoration: one came from a Mustang club in Detroit, the other from the famed Holman-Moody Racing shop in North Carolina, where it sat mothballed since 1962, when the team originally tested the engine for Ford. Using parts from both, the museum restoration team put together one complete, working powerplant.

It's a piece that is sure to resonate with PRI attendees, Rosenau said, and help draw attention to the museum's recent reimagining and two brand new exhibits, made possible by the recent renovation (read about the renovated IMS Museum here).

IMS Radio

In November, the IMS Museum unveiled the new displays in its two new rotating exhibit spaces—a first since reopening earlier this year—that allow for a revolving cast of subjects, artifacts and vehicles. After previously exploring the most accomplished drivers at the track—the 500's four-time winners club—as well as NASCAR's presence at the speedway, this time the IMS Museum is highlighting some of the supporting cast that helped IMS and the Indianapolis 500 gain notoriety around the world.

"Now Stay Tuned" is one of those exhibits now open to the public and explores the role broadcasting has played in building the race's global profile. With displays comprised of early audio technology, modern-day sound equipment, hand-written notes from the broadcasters, race-worn suits from pit reporters and more, guests are able to learn the stories of broadcasters like Sid Collins, Paul Page, Bob Jenkins and even today's FOX Sports crew, who have brought the Indy 500 directly into the homes of millions.

The other new display, "Setting the Pace," gives visitors an opportunity to see some of the vehicles that have played the ever-important role of Pace Car at the Indianapolis 500. Including the cobbled-together prototype Dodge Viper that led the field to the green flag in 1991 and the '57 Mercury given to "500" winner Sam Hanks that he later used to cruise around the country with his family, the collection of eight pace cars shares the unique story of each vehicle and its contributions to the history of the Indianapolis 500.

IMS Setting the Pace

Being at the PRI Show gives the museum a unique platform to share these exhibits with the wider racing industry.

"When you look at the PRI Show and how much it means to Indianapolis as a whole, I think it's a special opportunity to be a part of that," said Vice President of Curation and Education Jason Vansickle. "It really allows us to showcase some of our cars and then, hopefully, with the new renovations, bring people to the museum while they're here during PRI weekend."

It also lets them show off the work of their in-house restoration team in front of people who will truly appreciate and recognize it.

"We are in the room with a lot of powerhouse individuals and companies, and it really gets the word out for the museum," Vansickle added. "We're bringing two vehicles that we haven't been able to show because of the renovation closure, and one is a fresh restoration for our restoration team. It highlights the work they do and foreshadows some plans that we have. In 2027, we hope to have that as an offering for PRI guests to come see in addition to the museum."

IMS Restoration Facility

A rendering of the planned IMS Museum restoration facility.

After undergoing the multi-million-dollar renovation, the IMS Museum also announced plans earlier this year to build a new restoration and event facility located just outside of the Speedway grounds.

The new facility will provide dedicated space for the full-time restoration department to continue preserving and restoring the museum's vast vehicle collection. Covering 60,000 sq. ft, the new facility will have six restoration bays, two detailing bays and dedicated vehicle storage space, allowing for rotating exhibits, public tours and hands-on learning classes for students interested in pursuing careers in automotive engineering and restoration.

It's a mission that reflects the history of the racing industry, as well as its future.

"When you look at the motorsports and automotive industry, you look at how much the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its legacy has impacted that today and in the past," Vansickle said. "It's nice to be there, showcase the historical vehicles and support PRI and what they do for the industry that weekend."
