Tim Lewis of Foley Lewis Racing Passes

Tim Lewis of Foley Lewis Racing Passes

Tim Lewis, team leader and cofounder of NHRA Top Fuel team Foley Lewis Racing, has passed away. Team leader and cofounder Doug Foley shared the following message:

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our longtime team leader and, more importantly, our friend, Tim Lewis. Tim was a successful businessman who in the late '90s attended my drag racing school. It was there that we formed an almost 30-year relationship.

We started competing in Alcohol Dragster and made the leap to Top Fuel in 2004. This was an unattainable dream that Tim made happen. We traveled the country in our motorhome like we belonged in this class. We won, we lost, but most importantly, we always laughed.

Tim had a great personality and didn't take life too seriously... No matter my crazy ideas, he was always encouraging and enthusiastic about tackling my vision, whether it was for the team, my business or my family...

The last race he attended was Charlotte in the Fall, where we went to the finals, which now I look at as a gift from God on what would be our last race weekend together. The team and I will race this season in his honor and we will miss him dearly.

High Limit Racing, the sprint-car series owned by Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet, has unveiled a new franchise system.

Aimed at creating a sustainable business model for its race teams, the system will distribute up to $18 million in prize money over the next four years.

Effective in 2026, 10 High Limit Racing teams will join the franchise system. The franchises are permanent and aim to create long-term value for team owners with the ability to sell and/or transfer the franchise.

The series has already awarded franchises to the five highest finishers in the 2024 championship standings. Five more franchises will be awarded at the conclusion of the 2025 season. These franchises will be secured based on average point finishes from the 2024 and 2025 seasons among drivers who didn’t earn a franchise in 2024.

EPA Announces Plan to Reverse Federal EV Mandates

Submitted by ajh on Thu, 03/13/2025 - 10:06
ICE EPA

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its plan on Wednesday to meet President Trump's executive order on federal electric vehicle (EV) mandates, starting with reviews of several regulations passed by the previous administration.

The EPA will reconsider the federal motor-vehicle emissions standards that require automakers and truck manufacturers to increase zero-emissions vehicle sales (known as the Model-Year 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles regulation and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles). Today, only EVs and five plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) meet these standards.

The EPA will reconsider its March 2024 vehicle emissions regulation for model-years '27-'32, which effectively requires two out of three new vehicles sold to be EVs by 2032. The EPA will also reevaluate the 2022 Heavy-Duty Nitrous Oxide (NOx) rule, which was a centerpiece of the Biden Administration's Clean Truck Plan.

California's EV mandate and internal combustion engine (ICE) ban—known as ACCII and currently impacting 11 other states—remains in place and is not affected by these EPA actions. Congress has until mid-April to overturn the federal waiver that enables the California mandates.

  • Learn more about the Congressional Review Act process here.

SEMA and PRI react: "SEMA and PRI thank EPA Administrator Zeldin and President Trump for this bold action. SEMA and PRI have long advocated that government mandates, including those designed to support the sale of EVs and eliminate the sale of ICE vehicles, are the wrong approach to reducing motor vehicle emissions. The federal and state governments should take an 'all of the above' approach to vehicle technology, incentivize innovation, and allow the market to determine the best ways to reach improved emissions goals."

Critical to note: The EPA action only impacts the EV mandates signed in 2023 and 2024. The March 10 EPA announcement is not a further rollback of emissions standards in place before the EV mandates implemented by the Biden Administration. None of President Trump's executive orders reverses existing laws that prohibit the use of defeat devices. A change to this policy would require separate legislative action by Congress and significant changes to the Federal Clean Air Act.
