Edelbrock Acquires Fluid Delivery Systems Manufacturer SX Performance

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 08/29/2012 - 13:47
Edelbrock has announced the acquisition of SX Performance, which was formerly an affiliate of Essex Industries, Inc.

SX Performance has been designing and manufacturing advanced fluid delivery systems for aerospace, military and automotive use for over 60 years. The company has a proven track record in aerospace design, manufacturing, quality control, distribution, and customer service while serving some of the largest names in the aerospace and Armed Forces sector.

Edelbrock is very familiar with SX Performance's products, as they have been manufacturing all Edelbrock electric Quiet-Flo fuel pumps, in-line fuel pumps and regulators since 2003. This acquisition will reduce production lead times, allow Edelbrock to become more price competitive, and raise the quality to even higher standards in the fuel delivery and component marketplace.

"We are excited to add SX Performance to our portfolio of products," states Edelbrock VP of Sales and Marketing Steve Whipple. "We look forward to developing new and exciting products for the race and street performance markets."

The acquisition includes all manufacturing equipment, raw materials, current and future product designs as well as any existing inventory. Additionally, Edelbrock will continue to support all of SX Performance's existing customers.

The entire operation has already transitioned from St. Louis, Missouri, to Edelbrock's facility in Torrance, California.

IndyCar Drops Push-To-Pass Delay For Baltimore Grand Prix

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 08/29/2012 - 13:13
IndyCar, the sanctioning body of the IZOD IndyCar Series, has removed the activation delay to the overtake assist for this weekend’s Grand Prix of Baltimore.

The push-to-pass system has been utilized at Toronto and Edmonton with an activation delay of 5 seconds introduced at Mid-Ohio on August 5. The delay was reduced to 3.5 seconds for the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma on August 26. The system will have no delay for the final road/street race of the 2012 season at Baltimore.

A total of 90 seconds will be afforded drivers, with a maximum of 20 seconds per activation on the 2-mile temporary street circuit. There’s no recharge time between activations.

The overtake assist feature, introduced to the series in 2009, allows a driver to add turbocharger boost and additional RPMs with the press of a button on the steering wheel. When the system is engaged, the turbocharger boost increases to 160 kPa with an additional 200 RPMs on the 2.2-liter V6 engines supplied by Chevrolet, Honda and Lotus.

BorgWarner Turbo Systems Receives Porsche Supplier Of The Year Award

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 11:59
BorgWarner Turbo Systems has received first prize as one of 10 2011 Porsche Supplier of the Year Award winners at a ceremony held recently at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

BorgWarner Turbo Systems, located in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany, was honored for its high quality, reliability and outstanding performance, as well as its innovative partnership with Porsche in the development of the world's first mass-produced variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger for gasoline engines.

VTG turbocharging technology has been used to improve the performance, fuel economy and emissions of diesel engines for years. However, it has long been considered infeasible for gasoline engines because of high exhaust gas temperatures, which can reach up to 1,000 degrees Celsius.

Using special materials and designs as well as an optimized VTG mechanism, BorgWarner developed a reliable turbocharger capable of operating under very harsh conditions and at high thermal loads.

The combination of BorgWarner's advanced turbocharging technology and Porsche's engine design expertise produced the world's first mass-produced gasoline engine boosted by a VTG turbocharger.

Deadline Extended For IMCA Super Nationals Pre-Registration

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 11:52
The deadline for drivers to pre-register for the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals has been extended to noon Friday, August 31.

Drivers are encouraged to call the home office at 319/472-2201.

“We are already well ahead of last year’s number of drivers who have pre-registered, reserved pit stalls or confirmed with our staff that they will be at Super Nationals,” noted IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root.

“Getting more drivers pre-registered means everyone spends less time in line in the registration and draw tent,” he said. “That’s a good place to start with making Super Nationals week better for everybody.”

The early entry list was posted Monday afternoon. A final list will be released after the entry deadline.

The IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals take place September 3-8, 2012, at Boone Speedway in Boone, Iowa.

Benefit Fund Established For Injured Racer

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 08/28/2012 - 11:44
A benefit fund has been established for veteran Michigan racer Jeff Bloom, who was injured in an Xtreme Sprint Series event this past Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Bloom suffered serious burns on his arm and hand as well as his lower extremities, and faces an extended period of convalescence.

Fans and friends of the Bloom family now have the opportunity to make donations that will go toward the family’s living expenses while Jeff is in recovery.

A $1,000 “Lucky Dog” award posted last weekend has been redirected to the fund, according to XSS officials.

The “Lucky Dog” awards were posted by Engine Pro, Melling Select Performance, and Hastings Racing Rings in conjunction with Gilda’s Club, a Grand Rapids non-profit cancer support organization.

The two $500 prizes were to be awarded to two randomly drawn competitors following the Saturday night race, but due to the circumstances and the difficulty faced by the Bloom family, the awards have been diverted to the benefit fund.

“The racing community is very much a family,” said Xtreme Sprint Series founder Jim Hanks. “When a member of our family is hurting, we all are hurting. I know I speak for everyone in our series when I say how deeply we care for Jeff and Linda Bloom, and how important it is that we reach out to them right now.”

Funds may be directed to:
