Dave Werremeyer Named Technical And Communications Director Of NMRA, NMCA, And NMCA WEST Series

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 12/21/2012 - 10:09
ProMedia has announced the addition of Dave Werremeyer to its event staff as Technical and Communications Director for the NMRA, NMCA, and NMCA WEST event series.

Werremeyer comes to ProMedia after an extensive career at ProCharger, where he served as Motorsports Operations Coordinator for the past eight years. He will begin his new position with ProMedia on December 24, 2012.

“Dave has done an awesome job helping build a competitive program at ProCharger and we are elated to add him to the ProMedia team,” said Charlie Harmon, president of ProMedia Events. “His experience, and exceptional knowledge of our market, along with his vision and passion will combine to play a major role in maintaining a fair playing field for all three of our racing series.”

Despite helping develop and grow one of the most recognized supercharger brands in the world, Werremeyer’s racing roots are actually found in naturally-aspirated drag racing: “I love the sound a high-revving car running on motor alone makes. I have always respected the guys who build and race cars in any naturally-aspirated class,” he said.

However, Werremeyer doesn’t limit his love of racing to the sidelines. Werremeyer’s a Chrysler fan, and has raced in several heads-up and bracket classes across the country.

“This has been long time coming for ProMedia,” Harmon added. “Dave’s knowledge of the finite details of different combinations, will really help us as we move forward with our rules packages, bringing forward a much needed dynamic to all three of our series, benefiting the organization long term,” Harmon concluded.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 12/21/2012 - 10:06
San Antonio Speedway was reborn just a couple of months ago by hosting the 11th "not so annual" Octoberfast.

This half-mile, high-banked asphalt oval race track was closed down in 2007 due to code compliance issues, and was reopened by Unique Track Solutions LLC on October 18-20, 2012.

Over 120 racers competed in this record-breaking event that attracted almost 5000 fans and racing teams.

Brian Bohlen, the Operations Director at San Antonio Speedway, shared his excitement about the success of the reopening.

"We were really pleased with the response on our recent Octoberfast event," said Bohlen. "The future of the track hinged on the outcome of Octoberfast, and we're happy to say that we were overwhelmed by the support we received from the racers, sponsors, racing teams, fans and media. We know they all contributed to the success of this monumental event in in a big way."

Following the success of this historical "grand reopening" event, San Antonio Speedway has announced that it will be back again next year. Unique Track Solutions LLC is moving forward with its plans for 2013, and sponsorships for next year's events are being pursued.

"We're currently working on some specific dates for next year, and we hope to officially announce the schedule right after the first of the year," commented Bohlen. "Right now, we feel it's important to let the racing community know that we do plan to continue racing at San Antonio Speedway in 2013."

Bohlen also added, "San Antonio Speedway will be working with the asphalt speedway located in Kyle to coordinate schedules and rules in order to make racing at both facilities as easy and affordable as possible for racers."

San Antonio Speedway is a 1/2-mile, asphalt oval track that's located at 14901 State Highway 16 South, San Antonio, Texas 78264. Information on San Antonio Speedway may be found on the track website at www.sa-speedway.com.

The Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Racing Series has announced new corporate partnerships with Polaris and Walker Evans Racing designed to launch a production-based UTV class for the growing, grassroots-based form of motorsports.

The newly created Stock RZR XP class will focus on budget-minded racers being able to compete in off-road short course racing using the high-performance, two-seat Polaris RZR XP 900 sport UTVs directly from the showroom floor. In order to enhance competition and keep costs down, the only modifications allowed will be mandatory safety cages and optional bolt-on performance items.

For 2013, Lucas Oil welcomes both Polaris and Walker Evans Racing as sponsors of the Stock RZR XP class for the Southern California series. The new racing category, however, will be incorporated into all three of the Lucas Oil regional off-road series, including Arizona and Utah.

Based just outside of Minneapolis in Medina, Minnesota, Polaris Industries is a world-wide leader in the manufacturing and sales of high-performance and utility ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles and motorcycles.

First launched in January 2011, the Polaris RZR XP 900 quickly established new benchmarks of power and performance for a Side-by-Side UTV.

Walker Evans Racing, located in Riverside, California, has been a longtime supplier of snowmobile and UTV shock absorbers to Polaris, as well as being a team owner and sponsor of championship-winning Polaris UTV efforts via driver R.J. Anderson.

For 2013, the Lucas Oil Regional off-road racing program will consist of three separate regional series. The Southern California series presented by Kartek Off Road features three visits each to legendary Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino and the newly refurbished Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park in Lake Elsinore.

Sal Fish Turns SCORE International Over To Roger Norman

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 10:04
After nearly four decades of leadership, iconic race producer Sal Fish announced today that he has sold his SCORE International desert racing organization that includes the SCORE Desert Racing Series to Roger Norman, effective immediately.

Fish, the CEO/President of Los Angeles-based SCORE International, has set the pace for the sport of desert racing since shortly after its formation by the late Mickey Thompson in 1973.

The sale of the 39-year-old SCORE to Norman is final, with Fish having no direct involvement with future race promotions of the SCORE organization moving forward. He will, however, produce the 2012 SCORE Awards Night, honoring the racers of the world’s foremost desert racing series.

The SCORE Awards Night will be held Saturday, January 12, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa in Newport Beach, California, honoring the Champions of 2012 and ushering in a new and exciting era for SCORE International.

In announcing his decision, Fish, 73, said, “Next to my wife Barbara, SCORE has been the love of my life, my passion and I have left my blood, sweat and tears in the desert of Baja California, Mexico, and in the USA in Arizona, California and Nevada. Over these many years, I’ve been knocked down, but always managed to get up to fight again and have enjoyed more than anyone could ever imagine these many years in the desert.”

As a hotel/casino owner in northern Nevada, business developer and a champion racer himself, Norman was well aware of the daunting task at hand when he resurrected the High Desert Racing Association, (HDRA) in 2011. HDRA was highly regarded when it was active in the 1980s and early 1990s.

“For me it’s a dream come true,” said Norman of his acquisition of SCORE. “Sal Fish is the godfather of this sport and it is an honor to move forward with the incredible legacy he has left our sport with SCORE International. We have been talking about this for over a year, but I knew I had to learn all sides of the sport before I could be in a position to make a solid offer to Sal.”

Regarding his future plans, Norman said racers will be competing for three separate championships—HDRA, SCORE, and the World Championship.

The World Championship will be comprised of three HDRA races in America and three SCORE races in Baja. In fact, the World Championship is the culmination of six of the seven races of the HDRA and SCORE race series with the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (November 14-17, 2013) in Ensenada, Mexico, as the deciding factor with 2x points.

The first race is the HDRA South Point Vegas 250, January 12, 2013, in Jean, Nev.

“Races will be nationally televised in the US, and we will provide greater detail of our plans over the next two weeks. The vision of a world championship will be monumental for our sport. We will look forward to honoring the legacy of SCORE and the colossal contribution to our sport by Sal Fish at the SCORE Awards Night on January 12.”

In addition to the special SCORE Achievement Awards and the 36 Pro, 6 Sportsman class champions and three overall point champions who will be honored during the SCORE Awards Night at the Hyatt Regency, another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the annual SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards.

Individuals as well as manufacturers and organizations are honored through 11 distinct awards, whose winners are decided by several thousand SCORE fans through online voting, including the entire SCORE membership of more than 2000.

Among the awards to be presented are MasterCraft Safety SCORE Rookie of the year, SCORE Contingency Company of the year, SCORE Pit Support Team of the year, SCORE Mechanic of the year and SCORE Person of the year.

Another element of the program will be the presentation of the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards.  As it has for 27 years, the Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to those drivers in four-wheel vehicle classes who finish every required mile of the 2012 SCORE Desert Series. A total of 16 racers completed all 1,920.21 required miles in the five-race 2012 SCORE Desert Series.

The evening will include a colorful video/photographic tribute to the 2012 SCORE Desert Series produced by Blue C Advertising, highlighting the still photography of Trackside Photo.

A pre-awards reception will start the festivities at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner, a special tribute to the 2012 SCORE season and presentations at 7 p.m.

Individual ticket reservations as well as reservations for tables of 10, priced at $850 per table, are being accepted through the SCORE offices at 818/225-8402. Individual tickets are $85 each.
