Officials Announce Full 2015 ARCA Racing Series Presented By Menards Schedule

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 11/26/2014 - 06:42
Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America released the full 2015 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule.

The 63rd season of the nationally renowned stock car racing series will again include stops at superspeedways, short tracks, dirt tracks and a road course over a 20-race campaign. And, for the first time since 1992, the ARCA Racing Series will race at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., bringing the .596-mile short track back into the series fold. Also returning to the schedule after a one-year absence is Iowa Speedway, where ARCA raced every year from 2006-2013. ARCA’s home track – Toledo Speedway – will host its race May 17 just a few miles from the series Temperance, Michigan home office.

“We’re proud of the diversity of the track configurations, the tradition inherent in the venues, and the markets represented by the 2015 schedule,” said ARCA President Ron Drager. “Maintaining the 20-race schedule is important to the team owners and our marketing partners, and we appreciate the opportunity to share the track with so many great racing series on any given weekend. We feel our schedule is unique in motorsports, and provides a challenging platform for race teams and an exciting, compelling showcase for race fans.”

The season will open with ARCA’s 52nd consecutive appearance at Daytona International Speedway, a race that serves as a preamble to the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited and the official start of Speed Weeks at the World Center of Racing. The season will conclude October 16 at Kansas Speedway with a Friday night race in which the ARCA season champion will be crowned.

In between, ARCA will head to multiple short tracks (Mobile, Nashville, Salem, Toledo, Winchester and Berlin), several superspeedways (Talladega, Pocono, Michigan, Chicagoland, Kansas and Kentucky), two dirt tracks and the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course. It’s an action-packed schedule requiring drivers and teams to perform on a wide range of track types and surfaces.

The ARCA Racing Series will be a part of a NASCAR double or tripleheader on eight occasions, race at the same venue as the Verizon IndyCar Series, and race with King of the Wing and USAC Silver Crown cars. The series will visit 12 different states and race across eight months.

There are several additional highlights to the 20-race schedule:

ARCA’s two races at Salem Speedway will mark its 97th and 98th races at the .555-mile short track while the first of two races at Pocono Raceway will be the 60th on the Tricky Triangle. The series will also race on Memorial Day weekend on the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course and Labor Day at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds mile dirt in Illinois. Talladega will be the longest track that ARCA visits in 2015 at 2.66-miles. The shortest will be Berlin Raceway, which is a .4-mile paved oval.

Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville hasn’t been on the ARCA schedule since 1992 when David Green, driving for Roulo Brothers Racing, drove to victory lane. Track Enterprises, which already administers races at Springfield, DuQuoin and Lucas Oil Raceway, will be the promoter of the Nashville Race. It’s the first race for ARCA in the Nashville market since 2008 when the series last visited Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tenn.

Mobile International Speedway will host its fourth consecutive ARCA race and once again be the second race on the season schedule. Winchester Speedway, which celebrated its 100th anniversary of racing in 2013, will host its 26th ARCA race on the last weekend in June.

The 2015 ARCA television schedule will be announced at a later date.

Tri Track Series Set For 2015 Season

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 05:33
The Pacific Northwest witnessed the beginning of a new Super Late Model racing endeavor as the Tri Track Super Late Model Series kicked off its inaugural season in 2014.

In the first year the series saw over 80 drivers take the green flag with 10 different winners over the course of an 11-race schedule. The series returns in 2015 with some new additions including two new tracks, a new series director and some of the region’s biggest names committing to the sophomore season.

The eight-race series will take place at four of the premier tracks in the Northwest including two of its anchor facilities, Wenatchee Valley Super Oval and Yakima Speedway joined in 2015 by Monroe’s Evergreen Speedway and Stateline Speedway in Post Falls, ID. “We really wanted to expand on the great success we had last year and planned to add new tracks if possible,” said Garrett Evans, series promoter and Wenatchee Valley Super Oval owner.

The list is growing with other drivers looking to lock up a spot in the 2015 season including Mitch Kleyn, Lucas Valdez, Zach Moran and Tim Babcock. Doug Pace will take the reigns as the Series Director in 2015 and couldn’t be happier about joining the series staff.

“Last year the Tri Track Super Late Model Series really showed the Northwest some great things and we’re looking to build on that to make 2015 even better,” he said.

Pace will bring plenty of experience to the table including media leadership with the NASCAR Northwest Tour and ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series, administrative roles with regional race tracks including Yakima Speedway and Montana Raceway Park and management experience in several of the country’s leading financial institutions.

Staff set to return to the series under Pace’s leadership include Media Director Jeremy Anders, Technical Director Marv Boehling and Technical Inspectors Jim Wilson and Craig Anderson. Also joining the series will be former NASCAR Sprint Cup team member and past NASCAR Northwest Tour Car owner Jarrod Goodwin, who will work in a technical role.

“I believe with the staff that we have in the series we are building for our present and future success. Our goal is to become a top series in the Pacific Northwest to be among the best on West Coast.” Pace added.

“We have Hoosier stepping up to provide a contingency program for our drivers and we are working with partners to add to that package for drivers that are part of our points structure throughout the season.”

All Classes To Return For PDRA Next Year

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 04:59
The Professional Drag Racers Association is currently planning the 2015 season. And the nine classes that began the PDRA series will also carry them into their sophomore season. Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Pro Boost, Extreme Pro Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Pro Junior Dragster and Top Junior Dragster will be contested at all 10 2015 events.

“We had a great turnout of racers for our inaugural year,” stated Bob Harris on behalf of the PDRA owners and staff. “All classes are a big asset to the PDRA and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2015. We want to thank all our sponsors, racers and fans for a great 2014 season, as well as the media for their great coverage and support.”

The PDRA’s first Awards Banquet will be held in conjunction with the PRI Show on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.

For 2015, notable changes from the 2014 schedule include an additional two events, as well as five new tracks joining the PDRA team. The PDRA will visit some of the nation’s best markets for eighth-mile door car racing including Maryland International Raceway and Texas Motorplex, as well as a stop at the completely overhauled GALOT Motorsports Park. The PDRA plans to continue their Friday/Saturday event format.

The sophomore tour will begin at Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Tx. March 20-21. April 10-12 the PDRA will return to Rockingham Dragway, home to some of the most memorable moments in professional eighth mile racing. After this the PDRA heads west during the first weekend of May to Thunder Road Raceway in Shreveport, La. The final weekend in May will see a stop at Gateway Raceway in St. Louis, Mo. The tour will then reach its halfway point on June 26-27 at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich.

Budds Creek, Md. has often been regarded as one of the top doorslammer facilities in the country. The PDRA will bring their unique brand of eighth-mile action to Maryland International Raceway, July 17-18. Then the tour will make its second annual stop at Memphis International Raceway on August 21-22. One of the highlights of the tour, Dragstock, will be featured at the reconstructed GALOT Motorsports Park on its familiar date of September 11-13. From there the PDRA returns to one of the nation’s fastest growing facilities - Tulsa Raceway Park on October 2-3. The sophomore tour will conclude as the inaugural tour did, at Virginia Motorsports Park near Richmond, Va. on October 23-24.

“We worked hard to produce a schedule that would benefit our teams, sponsors and fans, as well as each of the tracks we will visit,” expounded PDRA Race Director, Bob Harris. “We look forward to visiting new tracks and welcome back many of the places we visited this year. I believe this schedule is just what we need to continue moving forward as the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing organization.”

Also in the works, a new points structure to be unveiled later this year.

Snowball Derby To Be Broadcast Online

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 11/25/2014 - 04:52
The Snowball Derby, a prestigious asphalt short track racing event in the United States, will be broadcast online via Speed51.com’s 51 TV online video network.

The 47th annual event at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, is scheduled for Dec. 7.

51 TV will feature a live broadcast of the historic 300-lap super late model Snowball Derby on Dec. 7 as well as the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 on Dec. 6 and all other preliminary feature event throughout Snowball Derby week. All events will air on a pay-per-view basis, with a four-day package that includes a live video broadcast of every feature event throughout Snowball Derby weekend available for just $54.99.

The pricing options between single-day and the four-day package are at comparable rates to general admission tickets to witness the action in person at Five Flags.

“We want to be able to share the on-track action of the Snowball Derby with those folks that are unable to make the Pensacola trip fit their schedules,” said Five Flags Speedway General Manager and Snowball Derby promoter Tim Bryant. “Our successful alliance with Speed51.com over the years makes the 51 TV package the perfect solution. Although no broadcast can match the overall experience of being at the track, we think Bob Dillner and his crew at 51 TV can deliver the next-best thing.”

The live video broadcasts of the Snowball Derby will feature 51′s broadcast team, including NASCAR TV broadcaster Bob Dillner, multiple pit road reporters and ten camera angles to bring fans as close to the action as can be without actually being at Five Flags Speedway. While any live broadcast can not duplicate the excitement of the Snowball Derby, fans everywhere will have the chance to get closer to the action than ever through the live 51 TV broadcast.

“There are so many people who have told us because of their job, the current economic times or family reason that they cannot make it down to the Snowball Derby every year, so this is a chance for them to see it and hopefully they can attend again in the coming years,” said Dillner, owner of Speed51.com. “This event is the most prestigious of the entire year and we hope to not only showcase that, but provide plenty of exposure to the racers and their marketing partners.”

The four-day pass to view all of the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 feature racing action, plus Snowball and Snowflake qualifying events and feature races for the Five Flags Speedway’s Bombers, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Modified and Pro Truck divisions is the most cost-effective package. However, individual day passes are also available.

Fans can tune in to Nash 102.7 Pole Night action, featuring time trials for the Snowball Derby and feature events for the Five Flags Super Stocks and Modifieds, on Friday, December 5 for $14.99. The Dec. 6 Allen Turner Snowflake 100 qualifying and feature events, along with the Snowball Derby last-chance qualifier event and the Pro Truck division feature, is available on Saturday for $19.99. A single-day viewing ticket for the 47th Annual Snowball Derby on Sunday, Dec. 7, is $24.99.

The only way to view the Snowball Derby feature events for the Five Flags Bomber and Sportsman divisions is to purchase the four-day 51 TV ticket for $54.99.

A 150-mile blackout range from Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., will be enacted to allow local fans to experience the Snowball Derby in person.

Ferrari Appoints Maurizio Arrivabene

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 11/24/2014 - 10:10
Ferrari announced the appointment of Maurizio Arrivabene as Managing Director of Gestione Sportiva and as Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari, replacing Marco Mattiacci.

Arrivabene comes to Ferrari from Philip Morris, which he joined in 1997 after a 20 years career in marketing and promotions in Italy and abroad. Arrivabene has held a variety of posts in Philip Morris, leading up to his appointment in 2007 as Vice President of Marlboro Global Communication & Promotions for Philip Morris International and, in 2011, as Vice President Consumer Channel Strategy and Event Marketing. He has been an independent member of the board of Juventus FC since 2012 also. From 2011 to 2012 he has been a member of the Sport Business Academy (SDA Bocconi School of Management and RCS Sport), in the Advisory Team Program.

Throughout his time with Philip Morris, Arrivabene has been closely involved in the partnership with Ferrari both in Maranello and on the world’s racing circuits. He has also represented all Formula One sponsors on the F1 Commission since 2010.

“We decided to appoint Maurizio Arrivabene because, at this historic moment in time for the Scuderia and for Formula 1, we need a person with a thorough understanding not just of Ferrari but also of the governance mechanisms and requirements of the sport,” commented Ferrari Chairman Sergio Marchionne. “Maurizio has a unique wealth of knowledge: he has been extremely close to the Scuderia for years and, as a member of the F1 Commission, is also keenly aware of the challenges we are facing. He has been a constant source of innovative ideas focused on revitalisation of Formula One. His managerial experience on a highly complex and closely regulated market is also of great importance, and will help him manage and motivate the team. I am delighted to have been able to secure his leadership for our racing activities.

“We would also like to thank Marco Mattiacci for his service to Ferrari in the last 15 years and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” concluded Marchionne.

IHRA Announces Return To Sportsman National Event Racing At NJDRS Events

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 11/24/2014 - 10:04
The International Hot Rod Association announces that it will be returning to national event-style drag racing for its sportsman competitors beginning in 2015 with increased payouts, contingency and prestige at Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series events across North America.

The 2015 edition of the IHRA Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series will return to the look and feel of traditional national event style class racing for competitors in Top Sportsman, Top Dragster, Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod.

The national event class racing program will feature a single race contested during the weekend with an increase in purse and contingency, a welcome change for racers, sponsors and fans.

"We are getting very positive responses from our contingency sponsors when we tell them we are getting back to the old IHRA sportsman racing structure at most of the NJDRS events" said Dan Driscoll, IHRA Contingency Director. "This is certainly an exciting time as the IHRA continues its journey back to its roots while bringing racers back into the national spotlight at IHRA Nitro Jam events."

Qualifying for sportsman racers during Nitro Jam weekends will be held on Friday and Saturday, with eliminations beginning immediately following final qualifying. Sunday will be reserved for completing the event if weather prevents competition from being concluded on Saturday. The sportsman national event program will be contested at the NJDRS events in Tucson, San Antonio, Bradenton, Palm Beach, Cordova, Budds Creek, Grand Bend, Martin and West Salem.

In addition to the increased purse and contingency program, each of these sportsman national events will count as one Summit Pro-Am Tour divisional points claim. The Tucson and Cordova races will be "Wild Card" events where all competitors may use that event as an in-division points claim. A double-race weekend with Summit Pro-Am Tour point claims on both events will be held in Division 6 during the Edmonton and Spokane events. The top three in Summit Pro-Am Tour points at the end of the season will again meet at the Summit Racing Equipment World Finals at Memphis International Raceway to race for the National Championship.

The new NJDRS national event payout structure has increased significantly across the board for the seven Summit Pro-Am classes and will be divided as follows: Top Sportsman and Top Dragster will receive $2,000 for an event win and $1000 for runner-up. Second round winners will receive $200, with each additional round winner receiving $100 per round win. Competitors in Super Stock, Stock, Quick Rod, Super Rod and Hot Rod will receive $1500 for an event win with $900 for runner-up. All classes will receive $150 starting with a second round win with $50 increases for each remaining round won.

"We hope that the increase in event payout will solidify our position to our Pro-Am competitors. We are committed to doing everything within our control to make the racing at IHRA events a viable alternative when you are determining your racing plans for 2015," said Mike Baker, IHRA Senior Director of Racing Operations.

ARCA Returns To Fairgrounds Speedway In 2015

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 11/24/2014 - 10:00
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will return to tradition-rich Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in 2015, officials from ARCA, the Fairgrounds and Track Enterprises announced today.

The national championship stock car tour will contest a 200-lap race on the .596-mile, high banked paved oval on Saturday, April 11. Since the series' inception in 1953, there have been 23 races at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville, but none since David Green won there in 1992.

"Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville is a destination track for racers and fans, and is located in an important market for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "Our Series has a rich history of racing at the track, and we look forward to bringing our superspeedway-style full-size stock cars, featuring racing with live pit stops, back to Nashville in a long distance event."

The first ARCA Racing Series race at the historic track, held June 21, 1959, was won by three-time ARCA champion Nelson Stacy, who would go on to win four races in what is now the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Other notable race winners include Jack Bowsher, Red Farmer, Ramo Stott, Coo Coo Marlin and David Green. A long list of talented local drivers including Darrell Waltrip and Marty Robbins also drove in ARCA races at the storied Fairgrounds oval.

"We at Track Enterprises are excited and proud to bring the ARCA Series back to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville," said Track Enterprises President Bob Sargent, a recipient of the national RPM Workshops Promoter of the Year Award. "The ARCA race events we present at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, and annually at the Illinois State Fairgrounds mile dirt tracks in Springfield and DuQuoin, are very popular with the fans and always competitive and exciting. We feel very confident we can have the same success with this event. The effort to bring the ARCA Series to Nashville has been a team effort, and Executive Director Buck Dozier and his staff at the Nashville Expo Center have been great to work with. Our plan is to bring the national stature and exposure of the ARCA event to Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and blend it with the existing schedule of motorsports established by Tony Formosa, Jr. We feel this is a significant development for auto racing in this market, and one we intend to commit to long term."

While racing began at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds as early as 1904, the track which evolved into the current day Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville held its first race in 1958. The track was home to 42 NASCAR Sprint Cup races from 1958-1984 with Richard Petty leading all drivers with nine wins followed by Darrell Waltrip with eight. Other Cup winners include Joe Weatherly, David Pearson, Bobby Isaac, Cale Yarborough, Buddy Baker, Bobby Allison, Benny Parsons and Dale Earnhardt. The NASCAR Xfinity Series raced there nine times from 1984-2000, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series held five races from 1996-2000. Under the management of promoter Tony Formosa, Jr. the track continues to present regularly scheduled races throughout the summer months, highlighted by the annual All American 400.

Despite the absence of the ARCA Racing Series at Fairgrounds Speedway, the series maintained a presence in the Nashville market, conducting 15 races at Nashville Superspeedway in nearby Lebanon from 2001-2008. Winners of those races include Ken Schrader, Frank Kimmel, Kyle Busch and Scott Speed. Other notable drivers competing in those events include Jason Jarrett, Casey Atwood, Cale Gale, Brian Scott, Erin Crocker, Chase Montgomery, Shawna Robinson, Justin Labonte, Justin Allgaier, Steven Wallace and Clint Bowyer.

More details on the event will be released soon including times and ticket information.
