ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2023) -- SRO America and the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show are partnering to showcase Sim Racing through the inaugural PRI Esports Arena powered by SRO. Through this partnership, SRO America and the PRI Show aim to bring increased visibility to the world of sim racing and the ecosystem surrounding the intricate hardware and software at the heart of the sport. The PRI Show will be held in Indianapolis on December 7-9, 2023.

“Sim racing plays a key role in the motorsports industry, from being a low-cost entry point for new racers entering the sport to training at racing’s highest level,” said PRI General Manager Jim Liaw. “This partnership with SRO America supports PRI’s goal of driving innovation and is an important step in the growth of esports at the Show.”

SRO Esports has been a longstanding leader in professional sim racing and highlights brilliant sim-racing and real racing talents across a total of five different championships around the globe. Each championship includes five rounds, with highly competitive endurance races virtually held at some of the most prestigious tracks in the world. Comparatively, in the auto racing industry, the PRI Show is motorsports’ showcase business event, bringing together 1,000 exhibitors and attracting attendees from all 50 states, further adding to the excitement and magnitude of this partnership as the two join forces.

Esports and sim racing at the Show will also be highlighted by the participation of Advance SIM Racing, Asetek SIMSports, SimGear Motion Simulators, Podium F1 Racing, and Williams F1.

SRO’s presence in the sim racing industry has brought forward monumental impacts, garnering widespread attention amongst racing and gaming fans both online and in person, with over 200,000 spectators attending on-site across five events, in addition to the staggering 87 million global impressions surrounding SRO Esports as a whole.

“Sim Racing is a vital element of the professional motorsports ecosystem. From driver training to professional esports, the use of sims has grown tremendously throughout the years,” said Vice President of SRO Motorsports America Robbie Montinola. “We are excited to work with our friends at PRI to showcase competitive esports at this year’s PRI Show.”

The ongoing project will see SRO producing live Esports competitions each show day, competing on Assetto Corsa Competizione, the official game of Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS. The feature races will provide 28 invitational slots in two sanctioned classes – Sim Pros and Real World Pros. Drivers are encouraged to register their interest to compete.

In 23 career starts in the Indianapolis 500, Kanaan has led a total of 367 laps, including laps in his first seven “500s.” His Indy 500 victory came in 2013, his 12th start at the Brickyard.

Kanaan is IndyCar’s iron man with 389 starts – second only to Mario Andretti – including 318 consecutive starts, a series record. During his 2004 IndyCar Series title winning season, Kanaan became the first IndyCar driver to complete every lap of every race.

He’s won championships in multiple series and events, including Indy Lights, IndyCar, 12 Hours at Sebring (LMP2) and Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona.

MOTORSPORTS ICON TONY STEWART TO KICK OFF 2022 PRI TRADE SHOW

Championship-winning driver and team owner will headline the Show’s Grand Opening Breakfast program.

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 19, 2022) – Motorsports icon, championship-winning driver, and team owner Tony Stewart will help kick off the three biggest business days in racing as the headline guest at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show’s annual Grand Opening Breakfast, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, in Indianapolis.

The Breakfast is an annual tradition for thousands of motorsports professionals from all over the world. Taking place the morning of the first day of the PRI Show, it symbolizes the official opening of the three-day event.

With host Ralph Sheheen of Speed Sport joining Stewart on stage, the two will engage in a casual, talk-show-style interview that is sure to educate, entertain, and inspire.

“Tony Stewart’s passion and drive is going to add a great deal of energy to an already iconic event,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, PRI president. “We’re looking forward to hearing Tony’s outlook on the racing industry, what projects he has in the works, and learning where he is headed as a leader of the racing industry.”

Stewart’s most widely known titles are the three he scored in the NASCAR Cup Series. However, he has 13 driving championships under his belt, including an IndyCar series championship and four United States Auto Club (USAC) championships – three of which made up an unprecedented win of USAC’s “Triple Crown” in 1995. He is the first and only driver to win championships in stock cars, Indy cars, and open-wheel Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown cars.

In 2009, Stewart became a driver/owner in the NASCAR Cup Series when he formed Stewart-Haas Racing with Haas Automation founder Gene Haas. Three years later, Stewart won the championship. It was his third and final Cup Series title as a driver, but the first of three NASCAR owner titles.

Stewart has 27 owner championships under the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) banner – 14 in USAC, nine in the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series, and four in the All Star Circuit of Champions TQ Midgets Series.

In 2022, Stewart expanded TSR’s footprint to include the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series. His eponymous team fields two full-time entries – one in Top Fuel for 10-time event winner Leah Pruett and one in Funny Car for 42-time event winner Matt Hagan.

In addition to TSR, Stewart also owns the legendary Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. The half-mile dirt oval is where Stewart frequently raced as an up-and-coming USAC driver, and it hosts several of the year’s biggest dirt racing events. Stewart is also part-owner of two other racetracks – Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway and Macon (Ill.) Speedway.

Stewart is a series owner as well. He purchased the All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) in January 2015. The ASCoC is one of the oldest traveling 410 winged sprint car organizations in the United States and it’s a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. In 2020, the ASCoC added to its roster by absorbing a three-quarter midget racing series, renaming it the All Star Circuit of Champions TQ Midget Racing Series.

“Tony Stewart personifies the winning spirit that drives our industry,” said Meyer. “He continues to push boundaries and has proven himself as a racer, a team owner, a track owner, and a businessman. I know that he is going to inspire the crowd by sharing his personal story.”

Doors to the Grand Opening Breakfast open at 7:00 a.m., and the program begins at 7:45 a.m. All PRI attendees are invited to the breakfast free of charge, but guests are advised to arrive early, as seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 17, 2022) – More than 1,000 of the world’s premier motorsports companies—including iconic brands, race sanctioning bodies and emerging manufacturers—are planning to showcase their newest products and technology at the 34th annual PRI Trade Show on December 8-10, 2022.

Taking place at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis, the motorsports industry’s annual trade gathering is the premier destination for businesses and professionals from all segments of automotive racing. With more than 50,000 attendees at the 2021 Show, last year’s event marked the motorsports industry’s largest and most successful in-person event since the pandemic and was recognized as one of the Top 100 Trade Shows of the year by Trade Show Executive Media Group.

The 2022 PRI Show will continue the momentum and expand on that success.

“With the racing industry gathered together in Indianapolis this December, we will be able to discover new opportunities, identify solutions, and take the industry to levels otherwise not possible,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “We’re committed to growing the racing community.”

Among 2022 Show features is the acclaimed PRI Education program, also held at the Indiana Convention Center. Encompassing 20 sessions—including individual presenters and panel discussions—across Business, Tech and EV tracks, the educational program promotes engagement and connectivity between race teams, retail shops, warehouse distributors, e-commerce sites, engine builders, fabricators, dealers, installers, jobbers, and media who attend PRI to learn about emerging industry trends and the latest racing technology.

Also included for attendees of this year’s Show:

  • Opportunities to network and engage with the industry’s thought leaders and game changers.
  • Complimentary access to the PRI Grand Opening Breakfast, featuring three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and team owner Tony Stewart interviewed by Speed Sport’s Ralph Sheheen.
  • Complimentary access to the PRI Happy Hour & Save Our Race Cars (SORC) Rally featuring industry VIPs, food, drinks and more.
  • Unlimited access to new and returning Show features including the world-famous Machinery Row, the EV Performance Zone, Content Creation Zone, Track Operators, Promotors and Sanctions (TOPS) Workroom and Lounge, Trailer Exhibits, and more.

“The PRI Trade Show is where dedicated racing professionals go to further their businesses and careers,” said Meyer. “Attendees are able to accomplish a great deal over three days at the Show, from finding new products that will make them winners to discovering new opportunities and making connections that you can only make at the Show. Real results come out of PRI.”

PRI Individual Membership, which debuted in 2021, is required to attend the Show. While a complimentary trial membership was offered to all Showgoers at last year’s event, nearly 3,000 individuals who are invested in the racing community and support the industry’s advocacy efforts upgraded their memberships. The program will expand in the future to include money-saving discounts for members on items such as auto parts, travel and more.

PRI RAMPS UP ADVOCACY EFFORTS THROUGH ALL-NEW ‘VOTE RACING’ CAMPAIGN
This latest initiative is among Performance Racing Industry’s expanded services aimed at uniting industry professionals, enthusiasts and fans in the fight to protect and preserve motorsports.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (June 1, 2022) — Performance Racing Industry (PRI), the leading industry organization supporting the interests of racers, enthusiasts, builders, tracks, sanctioning bodies and businesses, has expanded its advocacy efforts to further promote and protect one of America’s oldest pastimes and hobbies: motor vehicle racing.

PRI’s enhanced Save Our Racecars initiative features a redesigned website (SaveOurRacecars.com) that streamlines the process for industry professionals, enthusiasts and fans to join the fight to preserve racing. Included is an all-new “Vote Racing” program to help facilitate voter registration while highlighting pro-racing candidates in the November midterm elections. Visitors to the site also will find PRI-created template letters, phone scripts and other resources designed to streamline outreach to lawmakers.

“PRI has a long history of advocating for and protecting the racing industry, and the expansion of the Save Our Racecars campaign is our latest effort,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “Bringing together industry, enthusiasts and fans will be critical to driving awareness and support for an American passion that is under fire. The resources and access available on SaveOurRacecars.com make it easy for anyone to get involved, show their support, and demonstrate that support at the polls.”

Critical to the industry’s future—and central to PRI’s advocacy efforts—is the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act of 2021 (H.R. 3281/S.2736), which must be enacted into law to protect the right to modify street cars, trucks and motorcycles into dedicated race vehicles. Supported by both PRI and SEMA, the RPM Act aims to protect Americans’ right to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars and the motorsports-parts industry’s ability to sell products that enable racers to compete.

The RPM Act reverses the EPA’s interpretation that the Clean Air Act does not allow a motor vehicle designed for street use to be converted into a dedicated racecar. This American tradition was unquestioned for 45 years until 2015, when the EPA took the position that converted vehicles must remain emissions-compliant, even when they are no longer driven on public roadways. The RPM Act does not interfere with the EPA’s authority to enforce against individuals who illegally install race parts on vehicles driven on public roads and highways and companies that market such products.

Converting street vehicles into dedicated race vehicles is an American tradition dating back to the 1800s. Motorsports competition involves tens of thousands of amateur and professional participants and vehicle owners each year at more than 1,300 race tracks across the United States. Retail sales of racing products make up a nearly $2 billion market annually helping drive the larger $49B high performance aftermarket industry. The RPM Act will provide the racing community with certainty and confidence in the face of an EPA interpretation of the Clean Air Act that threatens to devastate an American pastime and eliminate jobs in our communities.

To date, more than 150 federal lawmakers and candidates on both sides of the aisle have either signed on as co-sponsors or expressed support for the RPM Act. PRI has compiled a database on SaveOurRacecars.com that allows individuals to “Vote Racing” in November’s midterms by researching and identifying those elected officials and candidates that share their passion. The site also provides resources to register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot, and access election resources through sites such as USA.gov.

Additionally, visitors to the site can join PRI’s Membership to show their support for the industry and stay up to date on critical developments. For more information and to get involved, visit SaveOurRacecars.com.

PRI ELEVATES ADVOCACY EFFORTS WITH 2022 ROAD TOUR
Third annual program kicks off March 11 and will include advocacy efforts designed to build, promote, and protect the motorsports community.

INDIANAPOLIS (March 9, 2022) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) is elevating its advocacy efforts by kicking off its third annual tour around the country, starting at the Progressive American Flat Track at Volusia Speedway Park in DeLeon Springs, Fla., on March 11. During the 2022 PRI Road Tour, PRI's leading content-creation team will travel the country to visit businesses, racetracks, events, and industry icons, generating videos and sharing stories about what the industry can do to help build, promote, and protect motorsports.

"Advocacy is a top priority for PRI, and it’s important for the industry. That’s why we’re emphasizing this throughout the Road Tour this year,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, PRI President. “After seeing the great success of the Road Tour and what it can do, we will now make that same sort of impact to help with our year-round advocacy efforts.”

Now in its third year, the PRI Road Tour has captivated more than 64 million viewers with unique and never-before-seen footage of motorsports businesses and racing competition. This year’s program is expected to build on those results with a greater focus and emphasis on legislative advocacy—including the RPM Act, the importance of PRI Membership, industry education, and more.

"The PRI Road Tour allows us to showcase the importance of the racing industry and inform the motorsports community about how they can support the industry they love," said Meyer. "This year's exclusive coverage will showcase how their participation will create a unified voice for the industry."

ExxonMobil, VMP Performance, Titan Motorsports, and SAM Tech will be among the team’s early stops as the PRI Road Tour begins its yearlong trek across the country. Sponsors of the 2022 PRI Road Tour, as of today, include Mobil 1, BBS of America, DeatschWerks, Red Line Oil, FiTech EFI, Hawk Performance, Raybestos Powertrain, Callies Performance, Five Star Race Car Bodies, Briggs and Stratton, Jesel, and Mass Traction.

PRI's comprehensive advocacy efforts include a Membership Program (PerformanceRacing.com/Membership) designed to formally unite and protect racing, and the world’s premier auto racing trade show, the PRI Trade Show (PRI2022.com).

Coverage of these programs and racing industry news are showcased on PRI's website, social platforms, weekly eNewsletter, and leading monthly publication, PRI Magazine.

"We call on the entire racing community—business owners, track operators, racers, and fans—to join us in representing and fighting for the racing industry," said Meyer. "Our industry currently faces many challenges, and it's imperative that we unite to protect it."

PRI SOLIDIFIES COMMITMENT TO RACING INDUSTRY
Performance Racing Industry purchases Indianapolis building for PRI Membership Headquarters

INDIANAPOLIS (January 10, 2022) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) is strengthening its commitment to the motorsports industry and cementing its presence in the racing capital of the world by purchasing a 42,500-square-foot building in Speedway, Ind., just outside of Indianapolis. Located within walking distance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the building will serve as PRI Membership Headquarters and offer a broad range of programs and services to assist the motorsports community.

“Indianapolis is the epicenter of motorsports in America and the world, and we are excited to work alongside our Indianapolis neighbors and racing industry icons, and be at the forefront of the racing community,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “PRI Membership is a groundbreaking program that unites the industry and creates a collective voice for the motorsports community to address any challenges and needs."

By establishing its PRI Membership Headquarters on Main Street in Speedway, Ind., PRI has solidified its commitment to Indianapolis, site of the organization's annual PRI Trade Show. The building, which will be a key tool in helping expand PRI Membership, will include office space for dedicated staff, have a Content Factory where garage space will be transformed into a content generation machine, offer live and virtual educational opportunities, host motorsports gatherings and membership meetings, and more.

The new PRI Membership Headquarters will also support other PRI initiatives. PRI launched an aggressive PRI Road Tour in 2020 where staff embarked on a nationwide trek visiting motorsports companies and tracks, sharing their stories and increasing awareness to billions of enthusiasts. PRI Membership followed in early 2021, giving businesses and individuals the opportunity to unite and advocate for the protection and growth of the racing industry. The recent PRI Show in December 2021 included 50,000 attendees and marked the motorsports industry’s largest trade gathering since the pandemic began in March 2020.

“PRI is at the forefront of building, promoting, and protecting the racing community,” said Meyer. “The new PRI Membership Headquarters in Indianapolis will allow us to expand on the PRI Membership promise to unite the industry and remain a strong voice for the racing community.”

PRI Membership Headquarters is scheduled to open in May 2022, just in time for the running of the Indianapolis 500.

The PRI Show was created in 1988 and found its home in Indianapolis, where 16 of the 33 Shows have been held. The Show encompasses all forms of racing and attracts attendees from all 50 states and across the globe, including professional race teams, retail shops, warehouse distributors, engine builders, fabricators, dealers, installers, jobbers, and media. PRI CELEBRATES 35TH ANNIVERSARY WITH BIGGEST SHOW EVER FEATURING LEGENDS - PENSKE, CASTRONEVES, BOLES, GOV. HOLCOMB

2021 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show returned to Indianapolis with largest gathering of motorsports professionals in the world

INDIANAPOLIS (January 3, 2022) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI), the motorsports industry's leading professional organization, concluded its annual week of trade show related activities in Indianapolis last month, marking the successful return of the industry’s largest in-person motorsports professionals event in the world. The 2021 PRI Show was the biggest in the 35-year history of the organization.

More than 50,000 attendees – including media, industry influencers, enthusiasts, and professionals from nearly 1,000 exhibiting companies – gathered in the racing capital of the world for the event, widely known as Race Industry Week, which took place at the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

Legendary driver and team owner Roger Penske and Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles kicked off the Show at the Grand Opening Breakfast on the morning of Dec. 9. Other highlights from the Dec. 9-11 Show included the unveiling of the Indianapolis 500 ticket design with four-time race winner Helio Castroneves, a special show tour with Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, a Save Our Racecars Rally to support the PRI PAC with hundreds of supporters including motorsports influencer Cleetus McFarland, and a dedicated EV Zone to highlight future trends in motorsport.

“It was great to experience the excitement and camaraderie of being back in person at the PRI Show, catch up with friends and colleagues, take advantage of opportunities to capture business, and network with other motorsports professionals,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “The level of innovation and development for the motorsports industry on display at the Show was truly outstanding and a clear demonstration of the strength and growth of motorsports.”

While at the Show, racing manufacturers and service providers gained direct access to the worldwide racing marketplace. Exhibitors had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with buyers for hands-on sales presentations, and attendees enjoyed a wide variety of in-depth educational seminars, networking events, and conferences throughout the show.

“The PRI Trade Show was a huge success for our business. Our booth was busy throughout, and the crowds were enthusiastic about being back together in person,” said Dave Werremeyer, business development manager for Frankenstein Engine Dynamics. “Thanks to conversations and inquiries we may not have had if not for networking at the Show, we now have opportunities to expand our product lines into additional applications.”

“This year’s PRI Show was an amazing experience with a quality crowd of people clearly there to talk about racing, products, and the future of the industry,” added David Vasser, owner and president at Nitrous Outlet. “The halls looked great with tons to see for every attendee and lots of opportunities to network with other participants.”

Roger Penske, IMS President Doug Boles To Headline PRI Grand Opening Breakfast in Indianapolis

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2021) – Roger Penske and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) President J. Douglas Boles will kick off the 2021 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show as featured speakers at the Grand Opening Breakfast. Taking place just before the PRI Show officially opens on December 9, 2021, the Breakfast is an iconic staple of the trade show and signifies the start to the three biggest days in the motorsports industry.

Both the Breakfast and Trade Show take place in Indianapolis, Indiana—the Racing Capital of the World, where thousands of race parts manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and resellers, along with race teams and racers from every segment of motorsports will gather in person for the first time since 2019. With a focus on new products and technology that advance all aspects of motorsports, the PRI Show is the racing industry’s leading business-to-business event.

As featured speakers at the Grand Opening Breakfast, Penske and Boles will underscore the importance of innovation and technology in racing. Roger Penske is the founder and chairman of Penske Corporation, which includes Penske Entertainment Corp, owner of both the IMS and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Earlier this year, IMS opened to 135,000 fans at the Indy 500, which at the time marked a milestone as the world’s highest-attended sporting event since the start of the pandemic.

“Roger Penske is a trailblazer and an icon in the racing industry,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, PRI President. “He embodies the spirit of racing and maintains a winning mindset. Similarly, Doug Boles is a fierce advocate for and promoter of IMS and Indianapolis and the world-class racing events hosted here. We’re honored to have them join us at the PRI Grand Opening Breakfast and are excited to have them kick off the Show.”

Penske and Boles are expected to discuss the importance of uniting the motorsports industry and connecting at in-person events, among other topics.

“As the motorsports world moves forward into 2022 and beyond, it’s more important than ever to work together across the industry,” said Penske. “I can’t think of a better place to gather than at the PRI Show in Indianapolis. This is the perfect setting to connect with race leaders and innovators and collaborate on issues such as technology, advocacy, and opportunities.”

All those registered for the PRI Show on December 9-11 are invited to attend the Grand Opening Breakfast. Attendees are admitted to the Breakfast free of charge, but guests are advised to arrive early, as seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 2021 PRI Trade Show floor opens immediately after the Breakfast. The event features nearly 1,000 exhibitors showcasing the latest products, services, machinery, simulation and testing technologies, and trailers for the racing industry in a single location. Performance Racing Industry Joins Forces with Magic 8 Race in South Georgia

-- PRI sponsoring October 15 event to raise awareness of RPM Act and promote campaign to “Save Our Racecars” --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2021) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) has signed on as title sponsor of the Magic 8 race on October 15 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia, part of the four-day No Mercy 12 drag racing event produced by Duck X Productions.

As presenter of the Friday evening program, PRI will be on-site to help promote the sport of racing and raise awareness of the threats currently facing the motorsports industry.

Recently, racetracks have come under fire for holding in-person events during the COVID-19 pandemic; local and state governments have sought to curtail tracks’ lawful operations; and officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have issued fines and penalties to performance suppliers and retail businesses over alleged violations of the Clean Air Act.

PRI’s Save Our Racecars initiative urges industry members, enthusiasts, and fans to become involved with efforts to stop government overreach and help get the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsport (RPM) Act bill passed into law.

“Along with the worldwide motorsport industry, Duck X Production events are experiencing challenging times,” said Donald “Duck” Long, No Mercy promoter. “At the forefront of the issues is that of government overreach. While we’ve endured and survived through hurricanes and extreme temperatures, never have we had to contend with the government threats that we are experiencing today. We are proud to join PRI in supporting the RPM Act.”

The RPM Act is a bipartisan bill that is currently being considered by both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The bill looks to clarify in federal law that transforming motor vehicles into race cars used exclusively for competition does not violate the Clean Air Act. This American tradition was unquestioned for nearly 50 years until 2015, when the EPA took the position that converted street vehicles that compete on the track must remain emissions-compliant, even though they are not driven on public streets or highways. The EPA also maintains that the equipment used to transform a street vehicle into a race car is prohibited.

“Passing the RPM Act into law is the only way to guarantee the future safety of the racing industry,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, PRI President. “We need everyone at the Magic 8 Race to join in the effort and ensure that drag racing events like No Mercy can continue. It’s critical that we unite to protect our racing rights.”

The RPM Act enjoys unprecedented energy in 2021, as racers and motorsports parts businesses have sent more than 1.5 million letters to federal lawmakers urging passage of the bill this year. PRI will be at the Magic 8 Race on October 15 at South Georgia Motorsports Park to urge racers and fans to continue contacting their lawmakers in support of the RPM Act.

“We must continue to push in order to get the bill passed into law,” said Meyer. “Only then will the industry have the confidence and the clarity needed to ensure that it is legal to modify a street vehicle into a dedicated race car that is used solely on a track.”

Racers and race fans will be able to join the industry’s advocacy efforts by contacting their lawmakers about the RPM Act. Supporters can easily send letters to their representatives by visiting SaveOurRaceCars.com. Supporters will also be able to join PRI Membership during the No Mercy race. Senators Burr and Tester Introduce RPM Act in U.S. Senate

-- Bipartisan Pro-Motorsports, Pro-Business Legislation Introduced To Protect the Future of Racing and Motorsports-Parts Businesses --
-- Americans Send More Than 1.5 Million Letters Urging Congress to Sign the RPM Act Into Law --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2021) – Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Jon Tester (D-MT) have reintroduced the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act (S. 2736) in the U.S. Senate. The pro-motorsports, pro-business bill, which was reintroduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in May 2021, is critical to ensuring that racers can continue to modify street vehicles into race cars used exclusively in competition, and that businesses can continue to produce, market, and install racing equipment. The bipartisan Senate bill includes six original sponsors, including Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).

The racing community has been vocal in supporting the RPM Act since 2016, after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) first declared that the 50-year-old Clean Air Act does not allow street vehicles to be converted into racing vehicles, even if the vehicles are trailered to the track and are used exclusively for motorsports competition. The RPM Act enjoys unprecedented energy in 2021, as racers and motorsports parts businesses have sent more than 1.5 million letters to federal lawmakers urging passage of the bill this year.

“The racing industry has made clear that the RPM Act is critical to protecting an American pastime and the small businesses involved,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, President of Performance Racing Industry (PRI). “We thank Senators Burr and Tester for introducing the RPM Act in the U.S. Senate and for bringing the bill one step closer to becoming law.”

The RPM Act is now being considered by both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The bill is well positioned for passage in the current Congress as a result of the strong grassroots support for the legislation. Members of Congress are familiar with the RPM Act, which has already been the subject of hearings in previous years by the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, which have jurisdiction over the bill.

“Amateur motorsports is a unique American pastime,” said Senator Burr. “This bipartisan legislation provides certainty for folks who enjoy America’s long-held racing tradition, in the spirit Congress intended when it passed the Clean Air Act more than 50 years ago. I’m proud to work with my colleagues on this common-sense legislation to protect the legacy of American motorsports for years to come.”

Motorsports competition involves tens of thousands of participants and vehicle owners each year, both amateur and professional. Retail sales of racing products make up a nearly $2 billion market annually. A majority of the estimated 1,300 racetracks operating across the U.S., including oval, road, dirt and off-road, feature converted race vehicles that the EPA now considers illegal.

“Folks in the motorsport community have always relied on the freedom to modify their vehicles to race and compete,” said Senator Tester. “This legislation will codify that freedom into law by preventing unnecessary regulations on motorsport hobbyists, allowing amateurs and professionals alike to uphold tradition while still following the intent of the Clean Air Act.”

As advocates for the worldwide motorsports industry, PRI is urging the racing community to unite and contact lawmakers to pass the RPM Act.

“It is critical that members of Congress continue to hear from the racing and automotive enthusiast communities about the importance of passing the RPM Act into law during this session of Congress,” said Meyer. “We’ve witnessed the impact that our actions have had in getting the RPM Act to where it is today, but we must continue the momentum and continue to tell Congress to pass the RPM Act immediately.”

Supporters can contact their legislators about the RPM Act by visiting www.saveourracecars.com.

Jim Liaw Hired as General Manager of PRI

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2021) – Jim Liaw has joined Performance Racing Industry (PRI) as the General Manager leading the staff and operations out of the Aliso Viejo, Calif., office. Having co-founded Formula Drift in 2003, Liaw introduced the sport of drifting to America and built what is now the top drifting series in the world. Reporting to PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer and working with the PRI management team, Liaw will direct and oversee activities related to the PRI Trade Show, PRI Membership, PRI Magazine, online content, and promotion for all segments in the motorsports industry.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jim to the PRI team,” said Meyer. “He has a proven track record of success, and he knows and understands the motorsports industry. He has vision, leadership, and passion – and he shares PRI’s goal to protect and grow the racing industry.”

Like many in the automotive industry, Liaw was an auto enthusiast before he was able to drive. After graduating from UCLA, he joined McMullen Argus Publishing (now Motor Trend) as a sales associate for Sport Compact Car magazine, and later served as sales manager for one of the first-ever sport compact drag racing series, Import Drag Racing Circuit (IDRC). As a pioneer and entrepreneur, Liaw finds trends, builds brands, and cultivates new enthusiasts.

“I’m not afraid to innovate and push boundaries,” said Liaw. “I know there are challenges facing today’s motorsports industry – such as attracting younger fans, combating government restrictions, supporting race tracks and in-person events, and protecting racers’ rights – and I am excited that I can be a part of the PRI team advocating for the racing industry.”

One of Liaw’s priority initiatives as PRI General Manager will be successfully executing the 2021 PRI Trade Show in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 9-11. With about 1,000 companies already committed to exhibit at the event, the PRI Trade Show is the racing industry’s No. 1 source for new technology, ideas, and business opportunities. The in-person event includes over 45 conferences, seminars, and social gatherings, making the PRI Show the best place to learn and build valuable business connections.

Liaw will also assist Meyer in building PRI’s new membership program. PRI Membership is a ground-breaking program that, for the first time ever, advocates for the motorsports market by uniting the worldwide racing community. Businesses and individuals are able to become PRI Members, thereby building, promoting, and protecting motorsports. As an organization dedicated solely to racing, PRI represents all segments of motorsports, including drifting, stock car, drag, sprint car, midget, modified, formula, dirt late model, sport compact, karting, vintage, and more.

Liaw can be reached at jiml@perfomanceracing.com.

EPA Enforcement Hits Small Speed Shop with $180,000 Fine

-- Colorado-based PFI Speed fights EPA over fine for selling race parts --
-- Performance Racing Industry (PRI) President Dr. Jamie Meyer conducts an exclusive interview with Brent Leivestad of PFI Speed: https://youtu.be/lpPgY7S3E2g --
-- PRI is calling on the racing industry and enthusiasts to unite and urge Congress to pass the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Sept. 7, 2021) – As the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) targets and increases enforcement against automotive aftermarket companies through its National Compliance Initiative, the federal agency is harming legitimate businesses in the motorsports industry. Despite the EPA’s nonbinding, informational claims that it is not targeting aftermarket companies that produce parts for dedicated race cars, the EPA continues to pursue cases based on supposition, impose inordinate monetary fines, and pursue legal actions to the contrary.

Recently, the EPA issued a fine against PFI Speed, a small speed shop in Colorado, for selling just 37 Hondata S300s over a two-year span. The fine was issued after company owner Brent Leivestad complied with an EPA inquiry for details about the company’s sales. Without any other contact from the EPA, Leivestad was shocked to receive a letter accusing the shop of selling illegal products. The letter included an $18,000 fine that, if not paid within 30 days, could increase to as much as $180,000.

“I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t even believe it,” said Leivestad. “I am a speed shop and sell race parts—I didn’t know that was wrong. I didn’t understand the basis of the EPA’s claim, I didn’t go in front of any trial or talk to anybody from the EPA, and the threat of ‘settle and pay within 30 days or else’ felt like a real shakedown intended to deny my rights.”

To protect the motorsports industry against further EPA overreach, PRI is calling on the racing industry and enthusiasts to unite and urge Congress to pass the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. The bipartisan bill will clarify that it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars, and that businesses can legally produce, market, and install racing products.

“There are thousands of legitimate motorsports businesses that are at risk of EPA overreach,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, Performance Racing Industry (PRI) President. “The EPA is putting these businesses—which are typically small, home grown, less sophisticated shops—in situations where they have to take on the full might of the federal government. The EPA is doing nothing to validate its enforcement efforts, and these small businesses are left with little choice but to comply.”

The EPA, which is responsible for enforcing the Clean Air Act (CAA), a 1970 law that regulates motor vehicles on streets and highways throughout the United States, has been fining businesses such as PFI Speed for producing, selling, and installing race use-only products. The products are often used on vehicles that began as street cars and were subsequently converted into dedicated race cars that are trailered to and from the track, and never driven on streets or highways again.

The CAA only applies to vehicles driven on streets and highways, and the EPA contends that it is not targeting race-only vehicles. However, the EPA has pre-classified many motorsports products as illegal and is issuing fines without investigating the circumstances. Companies selling these products are presumed guilty by the EPA, regardless of the product’s use.

“The RPM Act must be passed into law to provide the racing community with certainty and confidence in the face of EPA threats,” said Meyer. “Without the RPM Act, businesses will shut down and the entire motorsports community will be severely impacted. It’s time for the motorsports community to push back and protect our racing rights.”

Leivestad agreed: “I’ve been doing this for 20-plus years, and it sounds like the EPA is trying to put us out of business. We need to get behind the RPM Act and get it pushed through now, more than ever.” Leivestad shared his full story with Meyer in a 30-minute interview available here: https://youtu.be/lpPgY7S3E2g.

Additional information about the RPM Act, which was recently introduced in the House of Representatives and is expected to be introduced in the Senate soon, can be found at SaveOurRaceCars.com. Motorsports businesses and enthusiasts are encouraged to contact their legislators and urge them to pass the RPM Act to clarify that it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars used solely on the track.

There will also be several brand-new features and attractions on display at the 2021 PRI Show, including the Electric Vehicle Performance area, which will display production, concept, and racing electric vehicles from a broad array of manufacturers and racing series. This year’s PRI Education program includes its largest-ever slate of seminars covering a wide range of hot-button topics. On the business track, presentation subjects include sales and marketing, branding, hiring, search engine optimization (SEO), content generation, cash flow management, and more. Meantime, an expansive technical track features several of the industry’s leading authorities on induction systems, engine bearing design, valve spring development, EFI tuning, racing fluids, bump stops, and more.

In addition, Show organizers are currently finalizing details for this year’s Grand Opening Breakfast, which promises to engage the industry with impressive guest speakers. “The Grand Opening Breakfast is the PRI Show’s traditional kickoff, and this year’s event will feature a racing icon that all Show goers will be thrilled to see. We will announce details soon,” said Davidson.

Rounding out the many new features planned for PRI 2021, the second annual PRI Road Tour (PRI2021.com/RoadTour) will conclude the PRI Show, where never-before-seen Road Tour content will be showcased to attendees.

“The 2021 PRI Show will have something for everyone in the motorsports industry,” said Davidson. “Given the industry’s pent-up demand for the in-person Show, PRI 2021 will be a can’t-miss event.”

Madison International Speedway Joins Fight to Save Our Racecars

-- August 20 SaveOurRaceCars.com Championship Night to Include Activities That Unite the Racing Community --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2021) – Madison International Speedway in Oregon, Wis., is advocating for racers and fans to join the effort to protect the future of motorsports by hosting SaveOurRaceCars.com Championship Night on Friday, August 20.

As the title sponsor of the event, the Save Our Racecars initiative and efforts to stop government overreach will be promoted directly to race fans and consumers at the Friday night event. All those in attendance will learn about the threats facing the racing industry, including challenges racetracks have had holding in-person events during the pandemic, current legislative issues, and the future evolution of automobiles.

“The racing industry has endured more challenges in the past year than it has in its entire history, and it’s not going away,” said Gregg McKarns, Madison International Speedway Track Owner. “We’re grateful that PRI is fighting for our rights to race.”

SaveOurRaceCars.com Championship Night represents an established relationship and partnership between Madison International Speedway and Performance Racing Industry (PRI), the organization promoting to Save Our Racecars and advocating for the worldwide motorsports industry. When Dane County prohibited outdoor events from taking place last summer, Madison International Speedway leaned on PRI’s lobbying efforts to secure approval for hosting a limited number of events. SaveOurRaceCars.com Championship Night is the latest initiative between PRI and Madison International Speedway.

The August 20 event features three division races that include vehicles that began as street cars before being converted into dedicated race vehicles. As such, the MISfitz, Bandits, and 6shooters series are at risk from the EPA’s National Compliance Initiative, which specifically targets and enforces against aftermarket companies that produce, market, and install parts for dedicated race cars. To protect the motorsports industry against EPA overreach, the Save Our Racecars campaign is pushing for passage of the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. The bipartisan bill will clarify that it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars, and that businesses can legally produce, market, and install racing products.

“Passing the RPM Act into law is the only way to guarantee the future safety of the racing industry,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, PRI President. “We need everyone at Madison Speedway to join in the effort. It’s critical we unite to protect our racing rights.”

PRI representatives will be onsite at Madison International Speedway on August 20 to help fans in attendance pledge their support of the RPM Act. In addition, race fans will learn how they can join in a new effort to unify the worldwide racing community. Through PRI Membership, race fans are able to join racers and motorsports businesses in demonstrating their passion, commitment, and support for racing. The inaugural program is a groundbreaking movement that will amplify the industry’s ability to advocate and protect motorsports.

“It is by working together that our industry will survive and thrive,” said Meyer. “There is a lot of uncertainty in the world, but the only way to ensure the future of racing is through a unified voice. We must band together and take action.”

PRI and NCMA Join Forces To Protect Racing in North Carolina

-- Partnership results in RPM Act Week from August 2-6 --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (July 28, 2021) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) has joined forces with the North Carolina Motorsports Association (NCMA) to protect racing in the Tar Heel State—home to over 50 racetracks and over 30,000 motorsports jobs. As the leading advocacy group for the racing industry, PRI unites motorsports businesses, race teams, racers, and fans to strengthen the industry’s ability to advocate and protect motorsports.

PRI is committed to growing and protecting the racing community from threats, including government overreach. Working with PRI, NCMA is actively fighting against Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) overreach and urging NCMA members and the North Carolina motorsports community to join in RPM Week on August 2-6.

“Motorsports has a long history as an American tradition, and yet the industry is at great risk,” said David Miller, NCMA executive director. “Working with PRI and the entire motorsports community, we will be able to make our voices heard and protect the hobby well into the future.”

As part of the EPA’s National Compliance Initiative, aftermarket parts businesses are being targeted and jeopardized. Companies are being fined and risk being shut down. The RPM Act is a bill that will protect the racing industry by clarifying that it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars, and it ensures that motorsports parts businesses can legally produce, market, and install racing products.

The bipartisan bill was recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), with Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) serving as the lead Republican cosponsor. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) is serving as the lead sponsor of the RPM Act in the U.S. Senate and is working closely with the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to position the bill for reintroduction and passage in 2021. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) has served as an original cosponsor of the RPM Act and is a strong supporter of the legislation. The RPM Act must be passed into law to ensure that the motorsports-parts industry can continue to sell products that enable racers to compete, and that racers can continue to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars.

NCMA and PRI are joining forces to make our voices heard in the state. More than 300 businesses in the racing industry have already joined the groundbreaking membership program since it was first offered to PRI Trade Show exhibitors in March. PRI ANNOUNCES NEW INITIATIVES, RETURN OF IN-PERSON TRADE SHOW IN 2021

-- Plans include the launch of a new membership program and continuation of the successful PRI Road Tour.--

INDIANAPOLIS (March 9, 2021) – A return to Indianapolis for the annual PRI Trade Show, an all-new membership drive launching next week, and a 2.0 version of the renowned PRI Road Tour are all part of Performance Racing Industry’s plans for an unprecedented year.

With its mission to build, promote, and protect the racing community, PRI is focused on uniting motorsports professionals and enthusiasts in 2021 through both traditional platforms and newly introduced initiatives and services. Atop the list is this year’s return of the world’s premier event for motorsports professionals—the PRI Trade Show—which takes place December 9-11 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis.

“The racing industry is resilient and continues to push forward, and PRI very much reflects that spirit,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “Racing businesses have demonstrated remarkable passion and perseverance over the last 12 months. Many have even reported record sales and month-over-month revenue growth.

“Our job is to help the entire community thrive, and No. 1 on that list is bringing the industry together under one roof for an in-person PRI Show to get back to the business of racing and discover all the latest parts, equipment, technology, and solutions.”

As planning for the Show continues, PRI will introduce a groundbreaking membership program for motorsports professionals designed to unite the industry on a number of important efforts—legislative advocacy, business resources, career development, educational opportunities, cost savings, and more. Exhibitors at this year’s PRI Trade Show, for example, can take advantage of a comprehensive list of benefits that includes discounted booth space, which in most cases covers the cost of membership.

“PRI is laser-focused on supporting the motorsports industry,” said Meyer. “The PRI Show is a critical component of what we do. Membership will complement what takes place at the event by providing year-round legal support, advocacy, educational seminars, and more.”

Shortly after Meyer’s arrival at PRI in late spring 2020, the company launched a series of targeted programs to assist racing businesses and operations impacted by the pandemic. One was PRI’s Ambassador Program, an aggressive campaign aimed at helping race track operators navigate local, state, and federal rules required to reopen safely.

Then, in October, PRI announced the launch of its Road Tour—an unprecedented, two-and-a-half-month cross-country journey that took a van-load of content creators to the doorsteps of nearly 100 racing and performance shops, teams, tracks, and more. The result was an all-out media blitz that allowed dozens of motorsports companies large and small to tell their stories, reveal new products, share never-before-seen treasures, and ultimately bring the industry closer together.

“It was like PRI came to Magnuson and gave us all a big hug,” said Kim Pendergast, president of Magnuson Superchargers, about the PRI Road Tour, which will focus on major race events when it returns for 2021. “I don’t think we knew how much we needed that touch until it arrived.”

Exhibitor booth space applications for the 2021 PRI Trade Show, which include a sign-up option for PRI Business Membership, are available beginning March 15. Details for Trade Show attendee registration, PRI Individual Membership, and the PRI Road Tour will be announced at a later date.

PRI Mourns Loss of Engine Building Icon Sonny Leonard

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (January 11, 2021) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) is mourning the loss of industry legend Sonny Leonard. The iconic engine builder passed away January 10 at the age 77, leaving behind an amazing legacy of innovation and success.

"Sonny Leonard's passing is a huge loss for the racing industry. He will be missed not only for his engine-building skills and knowledge but also for his good nature and charisma," said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and the entire motorsports community."

Leonard gained notoriety in the racing world thanks to his engine-building skills, which powered many racers to victories and championships in various drag racing categories, including Pro Nitrous and Pro Modified. His name also became synonymous with big-inch mountain motors due to his success in racing categories such as Mountain Motor Pro Stock and Top Sportsman.

In addition to using his ingenuity to power racers to success on the track, he used his engine-building prowess for charitable purposes, including the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes held every year during the PRI Show in Indianapolis. Leonard's donated engines in 2018-19 helped raise more than $220,000 for Victory Junction, a year-round camping facility in Randleman, N.C., for children ages six to 16 with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.

“It was such an honor to have the opportunity to work with Sonny Leonard and his team as they generously volunteered their time to build an engine each year for the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes,” said PRI Trade Show Director Karin Davidson. "PRI's condolences are with his family and team at Sonny’s Racing Engines."

RACING INDUSTRY RALLIES BEHIND CANDIDATES IN GEORGIA RUNOFF ELECTIONS

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Nov. 17, 2020) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) launched a voter campaign supporting pro-motorsports candidates in Georgia’s upcoming runoff elections for the U.S. Senate. Georgians are encouraged to back legislators who have demonstrated support for businesses and the racing industry by voting for Senator David Perdue and Senator Kelly Loeffler on January 5.

Runoff elections will be taking place for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats because no candidate received a majority of the votes earlier this month. The leading candidates from both races will face each other on January 5.

In the first race, incumbent Senator David Perdue, the Republican, will face off against Democrat Jon Ossoff. During his time in office, Sen. Perdue has been an ally of the racing industry. He is also a cosponsor of the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act , common-sense, bi-partisan legislation that will protect Americans’ right to convert street vehicles (cars, trucks and motorcycles) into dedicated racecars and the motorsports-parts industry’s ability to sell products that enable racers to compete.

In the other race, Republican incumbent Senator Kelly Loeffler will face Reverend Raphael Warnock, the Democrat. Senator Loeffler, who was appointed to serve in the Senate earlier this year, is running on a pro-business platform, including lower taxes and fair trade policies.

With hundreds of automotive-related businesses based in Georgia and more than 100 race tracks throughout the state, PRI is advocating for the racing industry by endorsing Perdue and Loeffler.

Additional details, including important election deadlines, registration links and details on how to request an absentee ballot, are available at PerformanceRacing.com/VoteRacing.

PRI EMBARKS ON FIRST-EVER ROAD TOUR

-- The cross-country campaign will visit dozens of motorsports companies over a two-month span while collecting, generating, and distributing content for the racing community --

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (October 7, 2020) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) is launching a new cross-country campaign to gather and share news and updates from dozens of racing-related businesses. Dubbed "The PRI Road Tour," the campaign is an all-out content creation bonanza that takes the PRI team directly to manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, race teams, race tracks, and more, over a two-month span.

The PRI Road Tour, which begins October 10, will help manufacturers promote their products and services, and connect the worldwide racing industry by making more than 85 planned stops at motorsports businesses and facilities throughout the country, concluding on December 15. The PRI team will capture and share video, photos, and exclusive interviews highlighting the industry’s newest products, vehicles, races, and developments.

"If the industry can’t come to the PRI Trade Show in Indianapolis, then PRI is coming to the industry," said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer.

Traveling in the PRI Road Tour van, wrapped with the PRI logo, the team will conduct on-site interviews and curate content to share on PRI’s website and social platforms, as well as within its monthly magazine. PRI is also partnering with various media outlets, racers, influencers, and social media channels to further amplify the news and information it gathers.

PRI invites all motorsports companies to join the PRI Road Tour by submitting press releases, photos, videos, and other assets to RoadTour@PerformanceRacing.com to be included in the program. PRI will provide simple guidelines with minimal requirements to encourage widespread industry participation. Professional editors will have access to these submissions and generate content to be used on PRI’s channels, as well as shared with other media and influencers.

“The business of racing starts at PRI, and our goal is to support the motorsports industry by helping them spread the word about what they are doing,” Meyer said. “We’ve tapped into the world’s best photographers, videographers, and social media experts to develop content that will resonate with the racing world.”

The PRI Road Tour kicks off on October 10 in Indianapolis with video shoots at the Indiana Convention Center, speed shops, and popular attractions. The team will drive to Chicago on October 12 as it makes its way through Detroit, Cleveland, and cities in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Arizona, and California.

The PRI team is closely following local, state, and national health and safety guidelines as the Road Tour travels the country covering the business of racing.

2020 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show Update

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (Sept. 14, 2020) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) announced today that the 2020 PRI Trade Show will not be taking place as scheduled in December.

The announcement comes after months of working closely with the Visit Indy team, the Indiana Convention Center staff, and other Indianapolis officials to develop a plan for a safe and productive PRI Trade Show. Despite health and safety guidelines that would have been in place, mounting uncertainty related to the Coronavirus resulted in an environment that would not be conducive to a productive trade show.

"It is with great disappointment that we announce that the 2020 PRI Trade Show will not take place," said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. "Our goal is to always do what is best for the motorsports industry, and PRI will continue to lead with business solutions for an ever-changing future."

The organization is committed to supporting motorsports parts manufacturers, resellers, racetracks, race teams, sanctioning bodies, media, and racers themselves, through legislative advocacy, training, and more.

Full refunds for PRI Trade Show exhibitor booth deposits will be issued.

Updates will be posted to performanceracing.com.

New Coalition Advocates For Motorsports in New York

-- Proposal Calls for Immediate Safe Reopening of Race Facilities --

INDIANAPOLIS (August 25, 2020) – A new group, the New York Motorsports Coalition (NYMC), has been formed to raise awareness for the motorsports industry and advocate for racing in the state. Supported by Performance Racing Industry (PRI) and owners and operators of motorsports facilities, the coalition is committed to helping race facilities reopen and operate safely.

Under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s current New York Forward reopening plan, motorsports facilities may not open doors to spectators. As a result, New Yorkers must travel to neighboring states to enjoy racing, resulting in lost revenue for racetracks in the Empire State. In response, NYMC members have formulated a three-step plan to reopen racing to the public in New York.

Since joining PRI as President, Dr. Meyer has been focused on doing “what is right for the industry,” and he vowed that PRI will continue to do so as it pushes to host the 2020 PRI Trade Show.

PRI is encouraging racing enthusiasts and impacted businesses to contact Governor Cuomo in support of NYMC’s proposalhere.

“The safe resumption of racing with spectators would provide desperately needed economic stimulus to New York and a morale boost to its residents,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer. “As a New York native, I’m especially vested in working with PRI and the New York Motorsports Coalition to get the Empire State back on track and racing again.”

The NYMC’s three-step plan, which calls for a phased approach to reopening racetracks beginning this month, begins with 40 percent of a venue’s total capacity and reaches 100 percent by January 1, 2021. The plan can be found here.

State of New York Motorsports Opening Plan Summary

  • Beginning August 28 racetracks will be permitted at 40% of total venue capacity for spectator events. Masks and social distancing practices for participants and spectators.
  • Beginning September 19 through the 2020 season racetracks will be permitted to reopen at 70% of total venue capacity for spectator events. Masks and social distancing practices for participants and spectators.
  • Beginning January 1, 2021, entertainment venues (specifically racetracks) will be permitted to reopen at 100% of total venue capacity for spectator events. Social distancing practices for participants and spectators.

The letter, written personally by Dr. Meyer, is straight-forward and candid. In it, Dr. Meyer writes “I know you have a lot of questions and concerns right now, and I want to help answer those.” He makes clear that the 2020 PRI Trade Show is set to take place as scheduled in Indianapolis on Dec. 10-12, but that approval from the Marion County Health Department is required and pending.

"The Ambassador Program will provide us with feedback and a good understanding of what track operators need in order for the advocacy team to successfully assist."

In the letter, Dr. Meyer points out that:

  • More than 940 exhibitors have registered for the 2020 PRI Show and are ready to display their racing products.
  • PRI is working closely with the Visit Indy team, the Indiana Convention Center staff, and other Indianapolis officials, including the Office of the Mayor of Indianapolis, to ensure a safe and productive trade show.

PRI Joins New Mexico Coalition Urging for Motorsports to Safely Resume Statewide

Performance Racing Industry has joined the New Mexico Motorsports Coalition in urging lawmakers to allow motorsports to safely resume statewide.

INDIANAPOLIS (June 11, 2020) – The New Mexico Motorsports Coalition (NMMC), a group comprised of racing facilities in New Mexico, along with racing related businesses and professionals, including Performance Racing Industry (PRI), has submitted a four-step, one-year plan to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham that would allow motorsports to safely resume statewide.

Under Governor Lujan Grisham’s current reopening plan, mass gatherings are limited to five individuals and recreational facilities must remain closed. New Mexicans must travel to neighboring states in order to enjoy racing, resulting in lost revenue for racetracks within the state.

“PRI is committed to ensuring the resumption of racing in New Mexico and nationwide, which would provide desperately needed economic stimulus and a morale boost to Americans,” said PRI President Dr. Jamie Meyer.

PRI is encouraging racing enthusiasts and impacted businesses to contact New Mexico’s leaders in support of NMMC’s proposal at the following link.

PRI also has up-to-date information on the status of Motorsports by state listed on its website.

Dr. Jamie Meyer to lead the Performance Racing Industry as President of PRI

INDIANAPOLIS (May 21, 2020) – Dr. Jamie Meyer has taken the role of President of the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show and media company, effective this week. Meyer, who has a long and storied history in motorsports and racing, will lead the PRI team in increasing engagement and support for the industry through enhanced programs and services for the motorsports community.

“In addition to providing the industry with world-class trade events and publications, PRI is committed to enhancing resources, advocacy and representation for the motorsports industry,” said Chris Kersting, president and CEO of SEMA. “Dr. Jamie Meyer will be instrumental in leading the team. He has great knowledge and understanding of racing businesses, teams and drivers, and he will be a valued leader to help motorsports and the industry grow.”

Meyer leaves a very successful 15-year career at General Motors, where he served as the Advanced Performance Parts Program Manager, the Performance Marketing Manager, as well as several marketing and advertising roles for Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick.

“I have always enjoyed sportsman motorsports,” said Meyer. “I was influenced early on by local circle track racers and that lead to a fascination of fast street cars and drag racing. I am looking forward to bringing that passion and energy to the PRI community and working with an already established team of industry leaders.”

Meyer led the revival of the COPO Camaro, E-ROD crate engine, LSX race block and engine family, and initiated such events as the Chevrolet Performance US Nationals, LSX Shootout, and sponsorship of the NMCA series of drag races. Meyer was also instrumental in onboarding the Force Family to Chevrolet as well as multiple marketing activities with NASCAR drivers.

Most recently, Meyer developed the performance parts and racing parts strategy for all General Motors vehicles including their full-size truck lineup, C8 Corvette, current Camaro models, and the coming portfolio of battery electric vehicles. Meyer’s marketing efforts include the development of multiple websites, national advertising campaigns, trade show strategy development, and the formation of the social media suite of offerings from Chevrolet Performance.

Meyer began his racing career in upstate New York when he formed Mom’s Racing, a non-profit drag racing sanctioning body designed to give street racers a safe alternative at their local drag strips. Meyer’s drag racing efforts continued with Fun Ford Weekend, World Ford Challenge, and support for the formation of the National Mustang Racers Association (NMRA). He served as the lead announcer, racer relations, as well as a freelance contributor with hundreds of published articles.

Based in Indianapolis, Meyer will lead efforts to establish a new office and permanent presence in the area as he serves and engages the racing community, develops programs and services for the motorsports industry, and continues to lead the PRI trade show, one of the top 40 trade events in the United States.

PRI’s Annual Motorsports Report Reveals Strength Among Retailers

Nearly 90% of companies experienced growing or steady sales in the previous year, according to a recent survey of businesses representing all forms of racing.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (March 12, 2020) – Motorsports retail sales either increased or held steady for 90% of businesses over the previous 12 months, according to Performance Racing Industry’s (PRI) Racing Business Survey, an annual research report that provides information on growing markets, investments, sales, and marketing strategies, among other insights.

Despite uncertainty about regulatory changes and trade policies, including tariffs on imported goods, the state of the racing industry remains strong. Companies surveyed reported that both their customer base and gross sales had either grown or remained steady in 2019.

“PRI’s Racing Business Survey provides unique insight into the current state of motorsports retail companies and their practices over the last 12 months,” said PRI Marketing Manager Jon Shakill. “It is a valuable tool to help identify and understand the needs of key businesses in the racing industry.”

This exclusive survey, which was conducted in late 2019 and published in the March 2020 issue of PRI Magazine, covers US-based engine builders, fabricators, dealers, machinists, tuner/installers, service/repair and race prep shops. Thousands of businesses representing all forms of motorsports were contacted.

Companies surveyed reported that over 50% of their customer base comes from the drag racing and street/strip (or high-end street performance) market segments. In addition to bringing in the lion’s share of business for many shops, these market segments also represent their fastest growing categories.

Additional findings include:

  • More than half of motorsports retailers haven’t built a website to promote their business or sell parts online; however, almost 60% use some type of social media to draw attention to their products or services.
  • The most popular site used to market products is Facebook, with 98% of companies on social media using this channel.
  • Nearly 70% of racing companies invested in new machinery in the last one to three years.
  • Despite a continued rise in online sales, only 33% sell online. Out of the 67% who don’t sell online, 78% have no plans to do so in the future.
  • Many business owners are hesitant to hire staff due to the difficulty in finding qualified candidates.

“The findings in this report indicate there is still ample opportunity for growth within the motorsports retail sector,” added PRI Magazine Editor Dan Schechner. “PRI will continue to provide usable data and best practices to help these businesses position themselves for sustained success, both today and in the months and years to come.”

To learn more about current trends and business practices in the racing retail industry, access the Racing Business Survey report in the March 2020 issue of PRI Magazine.

2019 PRI Trade Show Offers New Features, Programs, Exhibit Areas

The 2019 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show will provide attendees with more and greater educational and business opportunities than ever before.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (August 8, 2019) – With new features, an expanded exhibit area, and the most comprehensive educational and technical seminar program in its 31-year history, racing professionals won’t want to miss the 2019 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show.

A host of new features and amenities are designed to make it easier for attendees to navigate and conduct business at the PRI Show, as well as provide them with the latest innovations and information the industry has to offer.

“The race industry is constantly changing, and we strive to evolve with those changes,” said PRI Trade Show Director Karin Davidson. “We’ve innovated and are excited about what’s new at the 2019 PRI Trade Show. We’re confident that the upcoming show will provide motorsports professionals with the best opportunity to advance their businesses and careers.”

Among the highlights of the 2019 PRI Trade Show are:

  • This year’s Show will expand onto the field of Lucas Oil Stadium for the first time ever, allowing trailer exhibitors to showcase their product lineups alongside their booths to attendees who are shopping for a race trailer, motorcoach, hauler, or toterhome. By moving the trailer exhibits directly onto the field, the popular Featured Products Showcase, which gives exhibitors an opportunity to further highlight their products and increase connectivity with buyers and media, will move into the exhibit halls of Lucas Oil Stadium. These two moves will also allow for the addition of a second coat check and Pit Stop Café concession area in the Lucas Oil Stadium corridor to accommodate attendees who visit the new exhibit areas. “These new exhibit areas give buyers and media the ability to see the latest trailers and hottest products in the industry easily in one central location,” said Davidson. “It’s a good way for attendees to maximize their time at the Show, easily identify the exhibitors that appeal to them, and have more time to take part in all of the programs available during the Three Biggest Business Days in Racing.”
  • The PRI Show Education Program has expanded in 2019, giving Show goers more opportunities than ever to learn valuable strategies, insights, and solutions in exclusive seminars on a variety of subjects. To facilitate attendance, a new PRI Education sign-up page has been integrated into the PRI Trade Show’s attendee registration process and online in your Map Your Show planner.
  • The PRI Show annually attracts buyers and media from over 70 countries. In order to provide added value and opportunity for overseas attendees to conduct business, an expanded International Center will be housed inside the Indiana Convention Center’s 500 Ballroom. This area will feature private meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi, printer access, and interpreters from several countries who are available by appointment at no charge to assist during meetings. Additionally, a new PRI International Trade Roundtable, part of the expanded education program, will feature overseas dealers and distributors representing key motorsports markets across the globe discussing international racing trends and business opportunities.
  • Ralph Sheheen, president and co-founder of SPEED SPORT, will leverage his passion for and knowledge of motorsports in his role as the new host of PRI’s Grand Opening Breakfast, which serves as the Show’s traditional kickoff. Sheheen is the Breakfast’s first new host in 10 years, and he’ll lead the program while industry professionals enjoy a hot breakfast before the start of the PRI Show. “In addition to these expansions and enhancements, the 2019 PRI Show continues to be the place to see the latest industry innovations throughout the Show floor and in exhibit areas that are unique to the PRI Show, such as Machinery Row,” said Davidson. “This year’s Show will be truly unique and one you don’t want to miss.”

Featured Products Showcase Provides Unbeatable Exposure For 2019 PRI Trade Show Exhibitors

The 3rd annual Showcase will be housed in a new location and offer unmatched opportunities for product and brand awareness.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (July 22, 2019) – Due to the overwhelmingly positive response since its introduction, the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show’s Featured Products Showcase will return for a third year in 2019, providing exhibitors with unmatched opportunities to boost their products and brand awareness before, during and after the world’s premier event for motorsports professionals.

Exhibitors that sign up now at prishow.com/featuredproducts will secure their spot in the Featured Products Showcase’s new location inside the Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS) Exhibit Hall, a high-traffic area that will increase connectivity with buyers during the Three Biggest Business Days in Racing, which take place December 12-14 at the Indiana Convention Center and LOS in Indianapolis. Exhibitors can enter an unlimited number of products into the Showcase, and entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, so exhibitors are encouraged to enter their products now.

"The return on investment afforded by the Featured Products Showcase has made the program a can’t-miss for exhibitors who want to increase their exposure with buyers and media at the PRI Show,” said PRI Trade Show Director Karin Davidson. “Because of its popularity, the Showcase has expanded into the new Lucas Oil Stadium Exhibit Halls, which are connected to the Indiana Convention Center and easily accessible from the parking lot.”

By signing up now for the Featured Products Showcase, exhibitors will receive pre-Show exposure that includes product descriptions and photos that are accessible through the Show on prishow.com and all of PRI’s social networks. Participants also receive promotional carpet signage at the exhibitor’s booth, signage with product description at the Showcase, professional photography of the entered products on-site for future use by the exhibitor, and exposure in PRI’s online exhibitor search feature and in the exhibitor's floor plan listing.

New for this year, each product’s location within the Featured Products Showcase will be highlighted in an interactive map on My Show Planner, an online feature that is part of the interactive floor plan and used by attendees and media to map out the PRI Show exhibitors that are specific to their business or audience.

“Because of its size, actually seeing everything at the PRI Show can be challenging, especially for media members who work the Show alone. So, since its inception a few years ago the Featured Products Showcase has been a must-visit area for me,” said Diesel Power Editor-in-Chief KJ Jones. “The Featured Products Showcase is a huge benefit to manufacturers, buyers and media attending the show. I look forward to checking it out every year because it gives visitors a better opportunity to see the products up-close and obtain detailed information about them.”

As part of the Showcase experience, PRI officials will once again host international media from key regions of the world to participate in the Global Media Awards program. Participating journalists will select 10 Featured Products Showcase products that are likely to be well-received in their home country. The winning exhibitors are then invited to attend a special reception in the Indiana Convention Center to receive their award and meet the international journalists. Last year, 70 Global Media Awards were presented for 53 different Showcase products.

“The Featured Products Showcase is a must for exhibitors who want to substantially increase their brand and product exposure at the PRI Show,” added Davidson. “This can be further enhanced by taking advantage of all the promotional opportunities available.”

Among the available upgrade options are a product placement with description in the Featured Products Showcase Preview section of the November 2019 issue of Performance Racing Industry Magazine, which also serves as the official Show Guide. Photos of products will be included if participants supply images by September 9. Additionally, featured products will be included in the post-Show coverage within PRI Magazine’s February 2020 issue.

Sonny Leonard Builds 1400-Horsepower Engine for Sunnen Charity Sweepstakes at PRI 2019

Tickets to win the 762 cubic-inch, high-horsepower engine are available now at victoryjunction.org/sunnen-sweepstakes

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (July 1, 2019) – Performance Racing Industry (PRI) and Sunnen have teamed up with well-known manufacturers and legendary engine builder Sonny Leonard from Sonny’s World Class Racing to raffle a high-performance engine during the PRI Trade Show, December 12-14, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tickets for the 31st annual Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes are available now at victoryjunction.org/sunnen-sweepstakes, with all proceeds going to Victory Junction, a camp founded by NASCAR’s Petty family for children with serious illnesses.

“It’s such an honor to have Sonny Leonard and his team generously volunteer their time to build another engine for the Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes,” said PRI Trade Show Director Karin Davidson. “Their engine last year raised a record amount for Victory Junction, and we’re looking forward to the excitement that this second, more powerful engine will generate.”

In fact, the 2018 Sweepstakes raised more than $102,000, crushing the previous record of $59,000. This year’s engine—a 762 cubic-inch, 1400-horsepower beast—is even bigger than last year’s custom-built 727 cid build.

The naturally-aspirated, hemispherical head EFI build for PRI 2019, which can be street or strip driven on 93 octane gasoline, will include Leonard’s fully in-house ported hemispherical cylinder heads, Sonny’s/Brodix 5.000 B.S. block with 1.000” raised cam, special high-flow water jackets, a Bryant billet crank, CP-Carrillo steel billet rods and more.

This year’s PRI Trade Show will feature over 1,100 companies exhibiting in more than 3,300 booths and showcasing the latest products, services, machinery, simulation and testing technologies, and trailers for the racing industry in a single location. PRI Show Unveils 2019 Floor Plan

Highlights include 1,100-plus exhibiting companies, new exhibit areas, and unique attractions set for this year’s trade-only event in Indianapolis.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (June 24, 2019) –The floor plan for the 2019 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show has been released and is now available online at https://www.prishow.com/floorplan19.

Among highlights of this year’s event, set for December 12–14 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, are an expanded trailer exhibit area on the Lucas Oil Stadium field, additional space for PRI’s Featured Products Showcase, the world-famous Machinery Row, and more.

PRI’s interactive floor plan allows attendees to flag exhibitors, products, events, and other features they wish to see at the trade-only Show. The accompanying online planner lets attendees create a personalized, pre-event agenda that can be accessed anytime from a mobile device before and during Show time.

"The PRI Trade Show floor plan is the best tool for attendees to plan for and navigate the premier Trade Show for motorsports professionals,” said Show Director Karin Davidson. “PRI 2019 is shaping up to be one spectacular event. Already more exhibiting companies, more booth space, and more net square footage of exhibit space have been confirmed for this year’s Show.”

Following a successful move indoors in 2018, trailer exhibits will now be located directly on the Lucas Oil Stadium field, allowing for an expanded display of the latest haulers, motorhomes, toterhomes and transports. The expansion also moves the Show’s popular Featured Products Showcase into the exhibit halls of Lucas Oil Stadium, where a second coat check and Pit Stop Café concession area will be added for attendees’ convenience.

Now in its 32nd year, the PRI Trade Show encompasses all forms of racing and attracts attendees from all 50 states and over 70 countries, including professional race teams, retail shops, warehouse distributors, engine builders, fabricators, dealers, installers, jobbers and media.

Additional highlights of the 2019 PRI Trade Show include the Race Track Business Conference, International Council of Motorsport Sciences’ Annual Congress, Grand Opening Breakfast, and an expanded PRI Education program featuring more than two-dozen seminars, panel discussions and presentations.

Known as Race Industry Week, the days leading up to and including the Show will offer a range of motorsports-related activities in and around the Indiana Convention Center beginning on Monday, December 9.

PRI Trade Show's Trailer Exhibit Area to Expand in 2019

Dedicated space on the Lucas Oil Stadium field will accommodate trailer exhibits, Featured Products Showcase, convenient coat check and food concessions

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (May 30, 2019) – For the first time ever, the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show will feature exhibits and products directly on the Lucas Oil Stadium field. Connected to the Indiana Convention Center and easily accessible from the parking lot, this new-for-2019 area allows for an expanded trailer display alongside the Show’s popular Featured Products Showcase. The allocation of additional space comes after PRI management moved all trailer displays indoors for the 2018 Show—a decision praised by exhibitors and attendees alike.

"Because Lucas Oil Stadium is connected and easy to get to from the Convention Center, it’s the ideal place for our trailer exhibits,” said PRI Trade Show Director Karin Davidson. “We saw great success from moving the trailers indoors, and moving to the field this year will give companies in this essential market segment a larger area to display their products and conduct business.”

The new exhibit area will continue to allow trailer exhibitors to showcase their product lineups alongside their booths, and give attendees some of the best side-by-side shopping of race trailers, motorcoaches, haulers, and toterhomes.

“Attendees will now get an up-close look at a greater number and variety of transportation options,” said Davidson. “They can easily compare available features and meet with more company representatives in one location.”

Additionally, PRI’s Featured Products Showcase, a high-traffic display area that allows exhibitors to further highlight their products and increase connectivity with buyers, will move into the exhibit halls of Lucas Oil Stadium. Now in its third year, the Featured Products Showcase continues to give exhibitors invaluable exposure for their products through PRI’s multi-faceted promotion and distribution channels. The corridor will also house a second coat check and a Pit Stop Café concession area.

This year’s PRI Trade Show, held December 12-14 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, will feature over 1,100 companies exhibiting in more than 3,300 booths and showcasing the latest products, services, machinery, simulation and testing technologies, and trailers for the racing industry in a single location.
