Spud Speedway is for sale in Caribou, Maine, with an asking price of $275,000.

The 48-acre motorsports and entertainment facility features a 1/3-mile asphalt oval and was appraised at over $400,000. However, since the owner is looking to make a quick sale, it has been priced to sell at $275,000.

The track attracts a mix of American and Canadian racers and spectators each year. The track regularly hosted races featuring Super Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro Stocks, open wheels, Enduros and modifieds. The facility has also held major concerts, carnivals, monster truck shows, truck pulls and sled races.

The track is reportedly in good condition, with a facility featuring two kitchen and concession areas, multiple storage buildings, a large parking and camping area, and a kart track.

Recent renovations to the facility also include new bleachers.

FIA Collaborating On Motorsports Concussion Study

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 03/22/2019 - 06:23
The FIA is collaborating with neuro-diagnostic company Neuro Kinetics (NKI), the University of Cambridge and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to launch a comprehensive and potentially transformational motorsports concussion study.

Titled RESCUE-RACER (Research Evaluating Sports ConcUssion Events—Rapid Assessment of Concussion and Evidence for Return) this two-year study of motorsports concussion incorporates some of the most promising and technologically-advanced concussion assessment systems currently available, including: NKI’s I-PAS (I-Portal Portable Assessment System), which is already used in IndyCar; the Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB); salivary biomarkers; and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) at 7T.

The study begins by collecting baseline data from professional racing drivers in the United Kingdom with post-injury tests to be run during the 2019 race season. It consists of two parts: the first, CarBON (Competitor Assessment at Baseline; Ocular, Neuroscientific), will investigate 40 UK-based racing drivers at baseline; and the second, CARS (Concussion Assessment and Return to motorSport), assesses a minimum of 20 drivers serially in the acute post-injury period (1-3 weeks).

Primary study support is provided by the FIA’s 2018 Sid Watkins Scholar and RESCUE-RACER Study Coordinator, Dr. Naomi Deakin, who is based at Cambridge University. Her work is overseen by Prof. Peter Hutchinson, Professor of Neurosurgery at Cambridge University and Chief Medical Officer for the British Grand Prix.

The project’s goal is to establish the natural history of symptoms and signs of concussion sustained in motorsports activity using a comprehensive neuroscientific battery, and exploring emerging technologies for objective assessments that can assist with concussion diagnosis and prognostication.

After an accident, there is obvious concern for the individual racer, but a concussed driver also presents a potentially lethal risk to other competitors, as well as spectators and crew.

RESCUE-RACER is expected to result in evidenced-based, medical decision-making protocols for track-side evaluation after potentially concussive incidents and a plan for clinical management of motorsports concussion, including the important “return-to-race” decision.

The overall findings of the project, which is being funded by the FIA Foundation, could also translate into enhanced care for road traffic accident victims on public roads.

Longtime sports executive Casey Lane will be named chief revenue officer for Hulman Motorsports, according to Hulman & Company President and CEO Mark Miles

Lane, whose tenure at Hulman Motorsports begins April 22, will be responsible for sponsorship sales and servicing alongside licensing for the NTT IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

He joins Hulman Motorsports after nearly a decade of leadership experience at Professional Bull Riders, LLC, most recently serving as senior vice president of partnership marketing following a term as vice president of corporate partnerships. As VP of corporate partnerships, he struck significant sponsorship and advertising deals with major brands, many of whom currently maintain relationships with both PBR and recognized motorsports properties.

Among top priorities for Lane will be the continued integration of new partnerships, including NTT’s series entitlement sponsorship, Gainbridge’s Indianapolis 500 presenting sponsorship, and Speedway LLC’s fuel and convenience store partnership. Eight Young Drivers To Compete For Spots In NASCAR Drive For Diversity

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 03/21/2019 - 07:05
Eight drivers from across the United States have been invited to try out for the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Youth Driver Development Program during a two-day combine event March 23–24.

The NASCAR Drive for Diversity Youth Driver Development Program, managed by Rev Racing, promotes and trains ethnically diverse and female drivers ages 12–16 to compete in INEX Legend Cars.

The combine, which will determine the 2019 youth driver lineup for Rev Racing, will include an on-track evaluation at GoPro Motorplex located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Selected drivers will become year-long members of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity team and compete in the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway, among other events, with Rev Racing.

“We are very enthused with the level of talent that we are seeing in our youth applicants,” said Max Siegel, owner of Rev Racing. “The talent pool continues to grow and connecting with these rising stars as early as possible is key. If we have the ability to engage drivers and their families early in their careers, we can prepare, train, and nurture their talents through every step of our program and beyond.”

In addition to the youth program, Rev Racing manages the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Development Program, which offers racing opportunities in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. The program provides selected drivers with equipment, mentoring, and competition experience. The mission of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program is to provide top diverse talent with a path for development through the ladder system, with the goal of being identified as a prospect by NASCAR’s national series teams, sponsors and manufacturers.

“We are pleased to welcome a talented group of young, diverse drivers to our first NASCAR Drive for Diversity Youth Driver Combine under the new program vision,” said Jusan Hamilton, NASCAR director of racing operations and event management. “We look forward to seeing members of this group rise up the ranks within Rev Racing and one day showcase their talent at the NASCAR touring series level.”

This year’s participants include a wide variety of driver backgrounds and competitive experiences. Isabella Robusto will have an opportunity to secure a third year with the program. In 2018, the Fort Mill, South Carolina, native finished third in the Young Lions Division at the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout and won the Battle at the Big Top race at Texas Motor Speedway, which was a U.S. Legends National Qualifier.

The invitees also include 15-year-old Lavar Scott from Carneys Point, New Jersey, who finished third in points at Airport Speedway in the 600cc Micro Sprint located in New Castle, Delaware, and Rajah Caruth, a 16-year-old from Washington, D.C., who in just nine months earned more than 20 iRacing wins and 157 top 5s in 359 starts.

Big Purse For DIRTcar 358 Modifieds

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 03/21/2019 - 06:09
This season marks the return of the unified DIRTcar 358 Modified Series schedule, with more than $330,000 of purse and point fund money available over the course of 13 highly competitive events across New York State and Ontario.

The season kicks off on Sunday, May 12, at Utica-Rome Speedway, and concludes with the $10,000-to-win Bullringer 100 season finale October 19 at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

“We have put an added focus on the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series and the 358 Modified class overall, and it’s showing a resurgence,” DIRTcar Northeast Director Dean Reynolds said. “We kind of turned the clock back a little and went with one series again, and set the schedule up to be as travel-friendly as possible. With the response from several of the 358 teams, I think it will be an exciting battle for the Championship, right down to the final event at Brockville.”

Each series event pays a minimum $4000-to-win, with $2500 for second place and $1500 for third. The season opens with the St. Lawrence Healthcare 100 at Utica-Rome Speedway on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12. Series regulars will face a strong local field of DIRTcar 358s. Last year Billy Dunn, Marc Johnson and Pat Ward took the top three tops in the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Track Championship at Utica-Rome.

Next up is Can-Am Speedway on Wednesday, June 26. Can-Am is another haunt of the No. 49 358 Modified of Billy Dunn, the reigning track champion. Three of the top drivers in points at Can-Am Speedway—Ryan Bartlett, Jordan McCreadie and Ryan Arbuthnot—will make a run at the series championship in 2019.

The next day, Thursday, June 27, the Series rolls into Fulton Speedway for the Showdown at Sundown 100. Defending series champion Larry Wight will certainly look to defend his home territory against Tim Sears Jr. and Ron Davis III. Sears and Davis rounded out the Fulton Speedway track championship podium in 2018 with Larry Wight on top of that as well. They’ll both take on the entire Series in 2019.

Corey Wheeler plans to make all the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series races in 2019. He’ll have home-track advantage when the Series rolls into Cornwall Motor Speedway on July 14, which is immediately followed by the July 15 series race at Mohawk International Speedway. Last year Tim Fuller dominated 358 Modified competition at Mohawk. Track championship runner-up Lance Willix is taking on the Series in 2019, as well.

Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway’s Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship field is looking stout for 2019. The series will need to get by Mike Mahaney in the No. 35, who plans to make as many series races as he can at his home track.

At the halfway point of the season, the Series returns to Can-Am Speedway and Mohawk Int’l Raceway in September. October brings the traditional NAPA Super DIRT Week 358 Modified Series marathon starting with Utica-Rome Speedway on Tuesday, October 8. The next day, the Series swings into Weedsport Speedway, and then Brewerton Speedway on Thursday for the famous Hurricane 100.

Friday night of NAPA Super DIRT Week features the Friday Night Lights Triple 25 qualifiers for Saturday’s $20,000-to-win event at Oswego Speedway. Last year, Peter Britten won a stunner in front of a huge crowd in the 150-lap feature. The purse for the Triple 25s is $10,100 and the 150 boasts a purse of $54,000.

Finally, the unified DIRTcar 358 Modified Series season concludes with the $10,000-to-win Northeast Fall Nationals Bullringer 100 at Brockville Speedway in Ontario, Canada. Mat Williamson took the checkered flag in last year’s Bullringer, but Larry Wight in the No. 99L triumphed in the overall Series Championship.

Other drivers who plan to make all the Series races are Steve Bernard from Granby, Quebec, Tyler Meeks out of Evans Mills, N.Y., Andrew Spurback, and Chad Brachmann, who races weekly at Ransomville Speedway. Drivers looking to make the most of the schedule are Mat Williamson, Danny Johnson, Billy Whittaker and Kyle Dingwall.

In addition to the healthy purses throughout the season, $6000 goes to the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Champion as a part of a $25,000 fund. Furthermore, VP Racing Fuel offers $6000 in fuel. The Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Champion takes home $3000 out of the $11,000 total point fund. Drivers and hands alike are excited for the 2019 DIRTcar 358 Modified Series season to get under way.

Increased Points Fund For Schaeffer's Spring Nationals

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 03/21/2019 - 05:44
Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series promoter Ray Cook has announced an increased points fund for the upcoming season.

After much consideration, the points fund has been increased to $10,053 for the champion of the 14-race tour, which begins this weekend at Oglethorpe Speedway Park and Cochran Motor Speedway.

“We’re proud to be able to announce this, I wish we could have announced this sooner; we’ve been working on it since the PRI show in December,” said Cook. “For this stretch of short of races, it’s bigger than I ever thought it would be. If all goes well and I could get some more help towards the Southern Nationals, I’d like to do it for there too.”

Cook went on to talk about the last six years of the Spring Nationals and how this year’s tour stands out above the rest.

“The fact that race tracks are uniquely arranged together in their own region of the Southeast, the schedule just goes together. Another thing I like about the schedule is two weekends in each month. Two weekends in March, April and May so it leaves time for people to regroup, get their cars ready to go for another two weeks,” said Cook. “The points fund will be paid when the tour finishes at 411 Motor Speedway on Memorial Day.

“I appreciate the drivers, tracks, fans and sponsors that have supported this deal to help it grow where it is today and just everybody that’s involved in it,” he noted. “I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
