Officials with the Northwest Super Late Model Series (NWSLMS) have announced the organization is under new ownership, as the Northwest Super Late Model Tour LLC has acquired the touring group.

Since the inaugural 2014 season, the series has been under the ownership of Evans Racing Enterprises. With Garrett Evans entering a new phase in his racing career, he struck a deal with Jarrod Goodwin, Troy and Tillie Blanton, along with Dan and Annette Garber, that will see the show go.

“We’ve been talking about this opportunity for a while and Garrett presented a package to us that will allow for this new ownership group to grow beyond where we have been the last few seasons and hopefully see some exciting new prospects in coming years,” Goodwin said. “We got our rulebook out early for the teams to plan for the new year, had the agreements in place for the current season which made the ownership change smooth for all involved.”

The 2020 NWSLMS season gets underway April 25 with the running of the Leonard Evans 150 at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval in Douglas County, Washington. For more information, visit nwslms.com.

NASCAR Reaches Agreement On Franchising Cup Series Teams

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 02/14/2020 - 11:04
NASCAR and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams have reached a multi-year agreement to continue the revenue sharing and rule-making charter system, according to multiple reports.

“The Charter agreement is delivering stability and long-term value to existing team owners while providing a clear path for ownership in the NASCAR Cup Series,” NASCAR President Steve Phelps said. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the team owners that extends the length of the Charter system until 2024. A healthy ownership structure ensures strong, competitive racing for our fans, which is a goal the industry collectively shares.”

The agreement means each of the 36 cars will be guaranteed starting spots in each race. Each team will also receive an increase in revenue generated from NASCAR, tracks, media, and digital rights, meaning chartered teams will now have a 6.5% stake in the revenue, an increase of 1.5%.

Additionally, funds in the race purse—approximately $2.8 million—previously allocated for non-chartered teams will be directed toward charter teams, according to published reports. Teams will also have to agree on rule changes and related matters. The agreement continues to allow NASCAR and team owners to view each car as its own sports entity, similar to FIA Formula 1’s Concorde Agreement.

In related NASCAR news, the organization has renamed the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship trophy as the Bill France Cup to honor Bill France Sr., who founded NASCAR in 1947, and his son Bill France Jr., who served as a chief executive from 1972 to 2003.

Eldora’s Roger Slack Named Promoter Of The Year

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 02/13/2020 - 11:39
Eldora Speedway’s promoter and general manager Roger Slack was named Auto Racing Promoter of the Year (ARPY) during the 47th Annual RPM Workshops in Daytona Beach, Florida. The honor, awarded for the 44th consecutive year by Racing Promotion Monthly, is selected by promoters of over 1,200 speedways, drag strips and road courses across North America.

Additionally, the 36th annual Kings Royal race at Eldora Speedway was awarded as the Outstanding Annual Short Track Event of the Year. Previously honored in 1997, the $175k-to-win staple is the first event to earn the accolade for a second time.

“This is a tremendous honor to be able to accept this award on behalf of our entire team at Eldora,” said Slack, who garnered over 73% of the ARPY votes during the final round of balloting. “Eldora has such a great history and our entire team, sometimes as many as 400-500 at our biggest events, earned this honor with their hard work and welcoming nature... we’re fortunate that Tony [Stewart] continues to provide us with the resources to grow Eldora and continue the legacy built by Earl and Berneice [Baltes].”

Slack has worked his entire career in the racing industry. His family’s footprints in racing date back four generations, starting with his great grandparents, who were involved in thoroughbred horse racing. His grandfather, Bob Slack, was the visionary behind Canada, Ontario’s Cayuga Speedway (now known as Jukasa Motor Speedway).

His father, Randy, was an accomplished short track racer on both asphalt and dirt in late models, big block modifieds and big rig semi trucks. Roger’s younger brother, Bobby, is a business partner at Bicknell Racing Products, the dirt modified and specialty parts manufacturer.

“Short track racing has always been our family’s passion,” Slack continued. “It is what we have always done and today, this award is not just for me, but for everyone at Eldora and all of those who have believed in me throughout my career.”

Thompson Speedway Joins ACT Late Model Challenge Cup Program

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 02/13/2020 - 11:32
Drivers going after the 2020 New England Late Model Challenge Cup (NELMCC) presented by American Racer now have another venue and state in which to chase the title. American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and Thompson Speedway officials announced that the Connecticut track has joined the NELMCC program for its inaugural season.

Thompson Speedway becomes the fifth track affiliated with the weekly racing program. The 5/8-mile speedway joins Vermont’s Thunder Road Speedbowl, New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park and Star Speedway, and Massachusetts’ Seekonk Speedway. Thompson’s addition also means tracks from four different states will be represented in the NELMCC presented by American Racer.

All scheduled weekly Late Model events at these tracks are eligible for points towards the Challenge Cup. The 10 best results for each registered driver at participating tracks will count towards their total. A special point system is in place based on driver’s feature finishes and event car counts, with bonus points for wins and cars passed.

An additional track also means a boost to the season-long point fund for the NELMCC presented by American Racer. Total awards are now guaranteed to exceed $10,000 with $3,000 guaranteed to the champion. All driver registration fees will be added to the point fund, meaning the total payout will continue to increase as more drivers officially join the roster.
