Lola Cars has appointed Peter McCool as its new technical director.

McCool, who previously worked for Lola between 2009 and 2012, rejoins the British brand to lead its team of engineers and designers to develop Lola's range of offerings.

Having led Mercedes to two Formula E Drivers' and two Constructors' championships, McCool will play an integral role in Lola's entry into the series later this year, the company said in a statement announcing the appointment. He will also lead the company's development of wider motorsports technologies, including the areas of hydrogen, electrification and sustainable fuel.

Former Technical Director Mark Tatham will remain with Lola as a technical consultant.
