The Bolivar Speedway in Bolivar, Missouri, has reopened after sitting vacant for seven years.

Built in the 1950s, the paved track has been taken over by new owners Jim and Vicki Benner who have spent the past few months getting the track into working condition.

"We just love racing, and thought we need to do something to help out the racing community,” Owner Jim Benner told local news KY3. “Between the two of us, we probably got three to five thousand hours in it since February."

The track, located at 4829 S 133rd Rd., features weekly racing on Saturdays or Sundays with Pro Late Models, modifieds, Big 10 Late Models, street stocks, Chargers, Hornets, B-Mods, trucks, powder puff, pure stock and pure stock trucks.

Local fans and racers are excited to get back to the track now that racing has returned.

"I think [the reopening] is awesome, totally. We ran back here in the '80s and '90s and had a blast doing it and I'm glad it has reopened," local driver Brian Lewis said to KY3.
