‘Best Midget Track In The Country!’

Angell Park Speedway—a 1/3-mile dirt oval—might as well be renamed the best midget track in the country. Hosting weekly racing roughly every Sunday Memorial Day through Labor Day since 1936, the dirt track is situated in downtown Sun Prairie, Wisconsin—also known as Packers country. The same way the Packers belong in Lambeau Field, midget racers belong in Angell Park, emphasized track promoter Greg McKarns. “We even see multiple generations in the pit area together,” he continued.

Quinn McCabe of the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association added that anybody who has raced a midget at some point in their career has competed at Angell Park, “including Mel Kenyon, Don Kenyon, Richie Volgar, even Jeff Gordon one night ran from the back to the front and damn near almost won the Pepsi Nationals. Tony Stewart’s been here a lot, Jason Lefler, Casey Cane, all of them at one time in their life raced here,” McCabe said.

The track has also expanded to more categories in recent years, as one driver pointed out. “As far as I can remember, in my 44 years, this place has been [racing weekly midget shows] every Sunday night. Now, they’ve also ventured out to sprint cars and Legends. Even Late Models and Modifieds visit a couple of times a year,” said driver Todd Kluever.

Until Angell Park Speedway opens its 2023 season on Sunday, May 21, you can catch the heart-pounding open wheel action in the accompanying video and photo gallery. For more information, visit the Angell Park Speedway website here.
