The FIA has released the 2020 calendars for both the Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championships. Both series will kick off their season overseas at Sakir, Bahrain, on March 20-22.
The fourth season of F2 racing features a 12-round schedule, with eight rounds set for Europe including a new venue, Zandvoort in the Netherlands.
“Next season, our calendar will once again be made of twelve rounds, all part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends. We kept the number of events to the same amount as the previous two years as we have found the right balance between European rounds and overseas race weekends,” FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel said. “I can confirm that more tracks would have liked to have F2 race there, but as always, we want to ensure that our Championship remains affordable by keeping the costs under control and thus the number of events to a total of twelve.”
Likewise, F3 will feature a nine-round season in 2020, which is one more than this year’s season. Seven races will be held in Europe, including Zandvoort in the Netherlands, which is also a new venue for the series.
“The 2020 FIA Formula 3 calendar is an exciting prospect for the many young talents looking to progress up the FIA single-seater pyramid. I am looking forward to seeing how they tackle a new challenge in Bahrain, whilst many will be returning to the fantastic Zandvoort circuit in the Netherlands having raced there in more junior categories,” FIA Single-Seater Commission President Stefano Domenicali said.
