Gibson Technology, the United Kingdom-based engine builder, is partnering with Nissan/NISMO, Xtrac and Bosch to supply the next generation of Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) powertrains, which will power the class from 2028 to 2032 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the European Le Mans Series and the Asian Le Mans Series.

The new, 3.4L, V6 engine will be designed and manufactured in collaboration with NISMO, Nissan's motorsports arm, and will feature twin turbochargers and include a direct fuel injection system. The partnership will deliver security of supply at a cost-effective and sustainable price, according to Gibson representatives.

Bosch Motorsport has been selected as Gibson Technology's electronics partner for the project, providing electronic components to control the powertrain, including the ECU, powerbox and wiring harness, along with a newly designed steering wheel developed by MoTeC, part of the Bosch group.

The powertrain's transmission system will feature a new transverse gearbox, complete with bellhousing and gearshift system, developed by Xtrac. The design of the new transmission will focus on durability and performance, with the aim of delivering reduced long-term cost of ownership for LMP2 teams, according to the company.

Further details will be announced at a later date.
