Anderson Speedway, a 1/4-mile banked paved short track in Anderson, Indiana, will reportedly invest at least $500,000 in upgrades to the facility.

A $100,000 loan was approved this week, according to The Herald-Tribune. The funds will be used for improvements to the track and facility, including upgrades to the seating and new LED lighting.

The track currently utilizes wooden bleachers, which will be repaired and replaced with aluminum walkways and seating. The main grandstand was acquired from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) in the early 1960s after a fire at Anderson Speedway.

Track President Rick Dawson says the bleachers will be replaced one section at a time. The upgrade project is expected to be completed in time for the 2019 season opener.

First opened in 1947, the speedway is currently running its 71st season of racing. Perhaps best known for the Little 500 sprint car race, the track is set to host the 70th running of the Pay Less Super Markets/UAW-GM sponsored event on May 26.
