AMRA Signs Princeton, Thunder Mountain Speedways; Tech Remains Top Priority

The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) is off to a promising start in 2013, and is building momentum toward a banner season for its
Weekend Warriors in the Octane Race Products AMRA Modifieds and the Kryptonite Race Cars AMRA Late Models.
Memberships for this point in the season are at an all-time high and growing as drivers pursue a shot at the nearly $50,000 in prize money and contingencies guaranteed to drivers who place at the end of the season.
In other big AMRA news, the organization has picked up Princeton Speedway and has re-signed Thunder Mountain Speedway.
The American Motor Racing Association will restore its season points fund to 35 positions in 2013 from last year's 25, while expanding the number of contingencies from 36th to 50th in the Octane Open Wheel Modified Division. The Late Model Division will now pay 15 positions.
"Based on last year's numbers roughly 1/3 of the membership will get something," said Director of Racing Operations Scott Wolfe. "Right now
it looks like drivers in the National Point fund placing 36th through 50th will get a awards package of a case of racing oil and a racing filter. Drivers are also eligible for additional contingencies and prizes awarded at the year-end AMRA Banquet."
The fund pays $250 for 35th position and $300 for 29th. The Two Brothers Motorsports Lucky 13 Award will add an additional $1000 to the
$800 already set aside for 13th place. Traditionally, number 13 was Jr. Nolan's number from Two Brother's Motorsports.
In 2013, the AMRA under the new DRIVE ownership has picked up its tech campaign to bring cars back into alignment with the rules and to work
toward the goal of creating a level playing field for all.
This was the premise that the AMRA was built upon. The AMRA central office, officers of the AMRA, and the entire technical inspection team acknowledges the drivers for building compliant race cars, and for the efforts and respect the drivers have shown the tech crew in making their cars compliant.
The AMRA will—in addition to regular inspections—take a closer look at engine set-backs on both the AMRA Late Models and the AMRA Modifieds. To help to insure the safety of AMRA Drivers safety components such as Snell / SFI tags on Helmets and safety belts, and illegal suspension components will also be items of closer inspection.
Getting the bodies compliant remains a top priority. The width of the front down posts, especially on late models, and sail panels are top priorities as well.
Late Models follow primarily Lucas Oil Rules. AMRA rules are posted on the website for both divisions. To remind all of the AMRA Modified competitors the engine placement rule in the modified series is found at Rule 25 (B) which states the measurement from the front of the bell housing flange to the center of the rear axle is 72".
The AMRA Late Model Engine Setback tech procedure will mirror Lucas Oil and WOO tech procedure regarding the same. Due to the many engine and cylinder head configurations the following tech procedure has been implemented by the AMRA. Engine Setback will be determined by measuring from the center of the ball joint in the upper control arm to the front of the motor plate. The maximum dimension is 25 ½".
In the case that a competitor has an offset upper control arm, the measurement will be taken from the center of the rear bolt in the upper control arm cross shaft. The maximum dimension is 22 ½".
In the case of a car that the upper control arm upright frame mounts are located in such a way and/or the car has been fabricated with
upright frame mounts in another location so that they require the use of an upper control arm with a ball joint offset of 2" or more; the car
could be determined to be out of compliance and will not be permitted to race.
