AMRA Sanctions Princeton Full Time

The American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) has announced the signing of Princeton Speedway to a full time AMRA modified sanction in 2014. Princeton will be the anchor for the organization in Southern West Virginia.
After leasing the fast four-tenths mile facility over the past several years, Princeton Speedway owner Melvin and Sherlene Bishop will take over the reigns of the Princeton Speedway full time again in 2014. Princeton joins Atomic, Skyline, Midway, Ohio Valley, I-77, Legendary Hilltop, O’Brion, and Thunder Mountain. At this time plans for Beckley are uncertain.
Bishop and his crew made some major changes to the four-tenths mile facility in 2011, widening the front stretch to a more long, sweeping shape. Brand new clay was brought in and the turns banked more from top to bottom. Also at the time, several new sets of lights were added, and a new fence.
“We are excited to be back at the track and with the AMRA,” said Melvin Bishop. “We are looking forward to a great relationship with the AMRA once again and we have been pleased with the number of open wheel cars that have called for information on the series. This will give the open wheelers in Southern West Virginia some extra incentive with the AMRA point fund and a consistent set of rules to follow.”
“Melvin and Sherlene are great people to work with and we are glad they are back in the saddle and partnering with the AMRA,” said AMRA President Scott Wolfe. “The dynamics are in place for a great year at Princeton for not only the Bishops, but also the AMRA, Princeton Speedway, and the racers.”
Over $32,500 in prize money was awarded to the top 35 drivers in the AMRA Octane Race Products National Points’ Series where Tuppers Plains, Ohio driver Roy Roush claimed the $5000 top prize as the 2013 Champion. In the Kryptonite Late Model Series, Chris Garnes claimed his fourth straight championship and claimed $2000 of the total $10,000 in prize money for the top fifteen AMRA drivers in 2013. AMRA sponsors also provided nearly $20,000 in contingencies and door prizes at the annual banquet in addition to their financial commitment to the point fund.
“Southern West Virginia drivers have taken home a good deal of money from the AMRA over the years, and we hope those drivers and more continue to support the organization. There is a lot of driving talent in this part of the state,” Melvin Bishop said.
2014 Admission prices will be General Admission- Adults $10.00, Children ages 6-10 $5.00, and 5 and under free. Pit prices for Regular Shows will be $25.00. Princeton Speedway is located in Athens, WV off of Exit 14 from the WV Turnpike.
Not only will the weekly fireworks be on tap with the on-track action, but the Princeton Fireworks show is booked for July 3rd, 2014. Track management announced, “We will also have a Fireworks Celebration on August 2, 2014 to honor our UBB 29 Miners!”
“We are glad to announce our first practice April 12, 2014. This will get drivers ready for the first race a week later April 19, 2014.” Below is a track schedule.
Recently, a brand new concession stand was built in the pit area at Princeton.
The rules for Street Stock, Hornets, and U-Cars, Pro Mini Stock, Outlaw Modified, Superstock, Fastrack, and AMRA will be on the track website and AMRA Rules will be on www.amramodified.com.
