The American Drag Racing League announced that for its 10th anniversary 2014 season it's raising the minimum weight for their Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous cars to 2400 pounds.

“We are taking this action increasing the weight minimum in an attempt to allow more racers to compete in our top two professional classes, Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous,” said ADRL president Kenny Nowling. “We feel weight rules that allow the so-called ‘lightweight’ cars to compete are inherently unfair for those racers who can’t afford a $150,000-plus race car.

“We at first considered banning titanium and carbon fiber components but we realized that a lot of our racers already have cars that have those materials, so instead of obsoleting any competitors current cars, we will just raise the minimum which allows almost all Pro Mod-style cars to be competitive in the ADRL.”

Nowling also said that he is in the final stages of confirming the ADRL’s 2014 schedule. “We’re doing our best not to schedule races that conflict with other series’ dates which takes a little work. As soon as the 2014 schedule is confirmed we notify all racers.”
