After almost two years sitting idle, Atomic Speedway, Chillicothe, Ohio, will conduct its first full season of racing since its return, starting March 22.

The speedway off Blain Highway officially released its 2014 schedule, starting with a Test and Tune on March 15 and the first regular racing night seven days later.

“We hit the ground running when we bought this place, and we haven’t stopped running,” owner Brad McCown said. “There’s a lot of work to be done yet, but we are looking forward to a great 2014 racing season and beyond.”

The track reopened in the fall on a limited racing schedule, and that experience helped McCown set high expectations for this year.

“We’ve listened to the fans and tried to give them a variety of options in 2014,” he said. “We’ve tried to bring in the sanctions fans like most and give them a good mix of open wheel and stock car racing, while trying to maintain consistency in the classes that we run on a weekly basis.”

Among the big money events this season are the three-day NDRL Late Model Weekend from May 8-10, the return of the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Speedweek on June 25, “The Night the STARS Come Out” on July 3, the Hell Tour for Late Models and Hell Tour for Modifieds on July 16 and the three-day Open Wheel Championships from October 23-25.

The NDRL Late Model Weekend is a premier national event that features a $5000 Friday payday and a $15,000 Saturday paycheck. The Open Wheel Championships also features a $15,000 payday for the winged racers and a $5000 winner’s payout for the non-winged sprints.

Most regular weekend shows feature 410 Winged Sprints, AMRA Late Models and AMRA Modifieds. Sport Mods and Street Stocks share top billing as alternating support classes.

General admission for regular events is $12 for adults and free for those 12 and younger. Pit passes are $30 for adults and $15 for those 12 and younger. Special event pricing is in effect for all special shows and will be announced as the event date nears.
