Jesse Kershaw will be NHRA’s North Central (Division 3) Director. The North Central Division includes tracks in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and four NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events. The Division 3 office will also be relocated to the Detroit area.

Langley Speedway, the 4/10-of-mile track located in Hampton, Virginia, will reopen again under the direction of track operator Bill Mullis. The track was closed in 2015 when Mullis and the former owners could not reach an agreement to keep the track open.

The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association announced that it will offer season-long nation-wide championships for both its short sprint races and its endurance contests, also known as "enduros." Until this year, the championship was confined solely to the eastern US region.

NHRA Nitro Funny Car driver, Paul Lee, is retiring from the sport of drag racing. Lee suffered a heart attack over the winter and will not be returning to the seat of his McLeod Racing/ Kalitta Motorsports Nitro Funny Car.

 A new driver will be announced at a later date.
