RPM Act Passes First Legislative Hurdle

A House subcommittee voted to advance the RPM Act to the next legislative stage in Congress on Wednesday. The Subcommittee on the Environment voted 13-9 to send the bill to the Energy and Commerce Committee for further evaluation.
  The vote came after SEMA's Chris Kersting testified in support of the Senate’s version of the RPM Act.
SEMA President Gives RPM Act Testimony

Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO, testified in support of the RPM Act on Tuesday in front of a Senate subcommittee. Kersting said the RPM Act was tailored to protect motorsports from regulations after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was implemented in July 2015.
  Kersting also noted how the RPM Act would protect the small businesses that support motorsports.
Meyer Distributing Wins Warehouse Distributor Of The Year

Automotive specialty and performance parts distributor Meyer Distributing was honored with the 2017 SEMA Warehouse Distributor of the Year award during the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
  Meyer Distributing President and CEO Mike Braun accepted the award along with fellow employees.
Bob Roese Returns To Wilwood In Business Development Role

In his new role with Wilwood Disc Brakes, Bob Roese will focus on generating new business and strengthening current relationships, as well as focus on dealer education and training.
  Bob Roese previously spent three years in Wilwood Disc Brakes' sales and tech departments.
SEMA Accepting Online Scholarship Applications

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) has announced it is now accepting online applications for the 2018 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund for students preparing for careers in the auto or auto parts.
  New this year, high school and part-time students can apply for the scholarship fund.
SAM Tech Ranked As A Top Trade School In Houston

Houston, Texas-based School of Automotive Machinists & Technology (SAM Tech) was recently recognized by the Houston Chronicle as the top trade school in the Houston area for graduate salary and job placement after graduation.
  Graduates of SAM Tech often go on to work for the top teams and companies in the racing community.
New Lincoln Electric Welding Tech & Training Center To Open In January

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of its legacy welding school, Lincoln Electric will open its new Welding Technology & Training Center in January 2018. Classes begin in the new facility on January 8.
  The new two-story, 100,000-square-feet-plus facility doubles Lincoln’s welding education capacity.
IHRA: Two Tracks Sign Multi-Year Agreements
 Industry News
The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) announced that member tracks Alaska Raceway Park (Alaska) and Gulfport Dragway (Mississippi) have signed multi-year agreements with the drag race sanctioning body.
  The two tracks, Alaska Raceway Park and Gulfport Dragway, feature 1/4-mile drag strips.
