Award-winning motorsports journalist and broadcaster Robin Miller has passed away at the age of 71. With a deep-rooted passion for open wheel racing, the Indiana native was a prominent voice for IndyCar and motorsports for five decades.

Miller started his writing career with The Indianapolis Star in 1968, staying with the publication until 2001. In 1999, he expanded his range to include broadcasting, first working with ESPN and later SPEED Channel, where he co-hosted the popular Wind Tunnel program with Dave Despain. He also was a regular columnist for RACER and was a contributor to NBCSN’s IndyCar coverage.

The renowned motorsports personality took his passion for racing to another level from 1974 to 1981, when he was a regular driver on the USAC National Midget tour.

In 2019, following years of motorsports coverage and in conjunction with Miller’s 50th Indy 500 broadcast, Indianapolis Motor Speedway launched the Robin Miller Award to recognize individuals who have brought “unbridled passion and an unrelenting work ethic to enrich the sport.” He was also inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (MSHFA) ’s most recent class, honored during a special ceremony at IMS earlier this month

PRI Magazine profiled Miller in a special two-part feature in September and October 2017.

Miller is survived by his sister, Diane, and nieces Emily and Ashley. The PRI team sends its condolences to the Miller family.
