Former vice president of competition Steve Gibbs has stepped away from the NHRA after a 48-year association with the sport. Gibbs made the announcement after the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida. Gibbs is not retired, but rather is a free agent within the sport.

The FIA has dropped the rule governing Formula 1 driver conduct in braking zones as part of its bid to allow greater freedom on-track in 2017. The rule came in response to complaints about the way Verstappen moved under braking to defend his position on occasions.
