As the new racing season comes roaring to life across the country, I find myself recalling PRI's experience with an Indiana rain cloud many years ago. It was a rain cloud that taught me a lot about the lives of race track owners and racing promoters, and how much we owe them.

It was a time when PRI was promoting exactly one race per year, eventually growing to two races per year. PRI founder Steve Lewis came up with a fun idea to promote a midget race at Indianapolis Raceway Park (now Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis) during the race weekend for the F1 series, when it had Indianapolis on its annual schedule. Earlier this week, SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting testified before the US House Science, Space, and Technology Oversight Subcommittee, urging the group to continue allowing street vehicles to be modified and converted for motorsports competition.

Kersting joined President of National Speed Sports News Ralph Sheheen, lawmakers and legislative experts at the hearing, which examined how the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule on converting emissions-certified vehicles into race cars would impact the racing community.

One of the most extraordinary things to happen during PRI's exhibit at the Autosport Engineering Show earlier this year in Birmingham, England, was how very normal it was for this American company to be exhibiting there. It didn't feel foreign at all. I note this because I remember a time when it was, more or less, a shocking new thought to promote PRI overseas.
