Earlier this week, SEMA President and CEO Chris Kersting testified before the US House Science, Space, and Technology Oversight Subcommittee, urging the group to continue allowing street vehicles to be modified and converted for motorsports competition.

Kersting joined President of National Speed Sports News Ralph Sheheen, lawmakers and legislative experts at the hearing, which examined how the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed rule on converting emissions-certified vehicles into race cars would impact the racing community.

One of the most extraordinary things to happen during PRI's exhibit at the Autosport Engineering Show earlier this year in Birmingham, England, was how very normal it was for this American company to be exhibiting there. * Fighting Back: An industry-wide firestorm erupted February in response to proposed regulations by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that threaten to ban the conversion of street-legal vehicles into race cars. As written, it would also outlaw the sale of certain products for use on such vehicles. The provision was inserted into a 629-page proposal, published back in July, called “Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles—Phase 2” that essentially covered fuel standards for commercial trucks.
