In my career at PRI, it has never ceased to amaze me how the sport of auto racing is intertwined throughout American lives. In my own life, some very fun moments have occurred far away from a race track. It might have been at a back-to-school night, sitting in the grandstands for a Little League game or at a wedding reception. I am talking to a stranger or new acquaintance when the subject of what I do for a living comes up. Next, I find the person I’m talking to runs a Winston West stock car (some time ago), or competes in Time Attack or spent years drag racing. Suddenly, we are speaking the same language. There’s a real enthusiasm in the conversation. And pretty soon, some fun stories are shared, and mutual acquaintances...

Daniel Alvarez, a 21-year-old Late Model driver with Hammer Time Racing out of Chappells, South Carolina, traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, in mid-December to attend the 2013 PRI Trade Show. Following is his account of what took place shortly after he arrived at the Indiana Convention Center.
The 2013 PRI Show was the 3rd straight show I have attended. On the first day of the show, my father and I stumbled upon the RAD “Race Against Drugs” Racing Team booth, and spoke with them about their charity. MAVTV Lands Despain: Standing before a room full of journalists during the 2nd annual “Lunch with Lucas,” iconic motorsports journalist Dave Despain remarked, “The only way they could get rid of me was by getting rid of the whole damn network!” You’ll recall that Despain and his popular “Wind Tunnel” show were dropped last year when SPEED TV gave way to Fox Sports 1. I’m on the plane back from Indianapolis, with just enough time to make the deadline for my Publisher’s Page for the January 2014 issue. I’m excited to share with you the news that the 26th Annual Performance Racing Industry was a huge success in making its big return to Indianapolis! As so many people told us during that special week in December, “Indianapolis is the right place for this Show.” Yes, indeed. We experienced three days of packed exhibit aisles and brisk sales for exhibitors.
